Got to admit, I do kind of like it !  Not  too in  your face and  comes with 2 piece rotors as standard? Can see it being a bit of a weapon  :popcornsoda:

not all that long ago £26,995 was the starting price for the S3. the old VXR was £18,995!

i think you'd have to be barmy to spend that one an Astra - it may be a good car, but still that price tag just smacks a bit

got a 1.6T Astra SRI as a hire car at the moment, actually quite like it  :ashamed: (The drive, not the looks)

Valid point there, it's still a Vauxhall...not in a badge snob way but there are meant to cheap and cost effective to run

Anyone wanting a brand new car in this class needs to wait a few months and save an extra £3k for this:

http://www.evo.co.uk/news/evonews/283273/new_bmw_m135i_hot_hatchback.html

Spend £500 on this and you are looking at a 380hp / 390ftlb seriously hot hatch.

Proper diff and Renault/FRS style hubs, the MKVII better be on the money when it comes out.

Can't wait to get a test in that M135i though.

Mk7 will most likely disappoint. Ok, VW are going to stick a proper diff on, but they will be bound to leave the brake option ticked and make it too compliant no doubt. I hate my affliction for VWs. But the wife won't let me buy anything else now as I get bored within 5 minutes.

VXR looks like a weapon. I love a Meg or VXR. But know it will get traded in spite how good they are!!!!! Damn you VW.

You'll pay nothing like £27K from a dealer...

.... and that's the reason they'll be worth 35 pence after 3-4 years..

Im sold on the M135i....my next car! for what cars for nowadays 30K seems good value.  I'd like to see options list though!

Power-wise though, don't you just wish VW would be brave and give the GTI 280bhp as standard?

It will need it if the turbo is anything like the old one, they tend to eat themselves.

I dont like the new 1 series. Give me the 'old' shape any day.

I reckon VW are heading in the rioght direction by reducing weight in the new GTi instead of these "hippo like" hot hatches!

Astra VXR GTC = 1475kg
Focus RS MK2 = 1483kg
 :stupid:

Vw have a vagina when it comes to putting power into the GTI  :fighting: that's why it's left to us to finish it all  :signLOL:

Probably is, when I used to work for BT, you got about 30% off new Vauxhalls and Fords down to the amount of company vehicles they bought. Seems every man and his dog gets a similar deal.

The coupe shape Astras on huge in the flesh, I think the m135 will look better in two door coupe form as unfortunately you still have to look at it to get in it, I think Autocar have the VCR, megane and rocco on test

See Autoexpress have the Focus ST on the cover which I assume trounces everything by the headline

Everyone seems to be going 'all out' - hot hatches are going to get serious by the looks of it. Apparently there's some baby AMG Merc coming too.

Problem is people who buy 40k cars don't want the tax and fuel bills, so m3 and rs4 owners now buy hot hatches, and if they cost 30k they must be good!

That's only because the previous 40k cars were all NA v8's. Now that they are all be swapping to turbo power it will probably change.
