Title: New front grill
Post by: ianv5 on June 12, 2012, 06:35:58 pm
I have just fixed the boonet catch on my golf but in the process I managed to break the two mounting points by the bottom of the number plate on the front grill  :sad1:.

Would I be able to fix them back on with fibreglass/plastic weld or do need to get an new front grill?

The grill still seems quite secure even though it is not connected by the number plate.

I have seen a grill on ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VOLKSWAGEN-GOLF-MK5-GTI-FRONT-GRILLE-2004-2008-FAST-DISPATCH-UK-SELLER-/290634812249?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item43ab2f4b59#ht_2533wt_1044

Not original but looks ok.

Any advice on fixing or replacing would be gratefully appreciated.

What about getting a plateless front grill?  :happy2:

Been meaning to get one of these off eBay myself. Not OEM but a lot cheaper and also no number plate mount. IMO looks much better with just the number plate.

That might work as I have a german style metal number plate and was thinking of removing the original number plate mount however it is from Hong Kong and although cheap will be stung for import tax/duties etc.

I got stung a few years ago when I bought a mk4 Golf V5 RC car, price nearly doubled after customs got hands on!

Does anyone no if the front grill is made of ABS? If so I have read that Acetone (Nail varnish remover) is very good at bonding!

Or you can plastic weld it
