Been thinking recently, what car would you choose after the Golf's?
Recently been looking at the 118D coupe's (Would have had 120 or 123 but insurance kills them as options)
What is everyone else thinking of getting? :happy2:
-
I'm thinking my midlife crisis will soon be upon me so I'm already looking at various Porsches!
-
one of these (or loads of these, rather):

moving to the capital in September to go back to uni at the ripe old age of 25

Good luck mate!
And if only you could insure Porsche's if I was 19... (in a year) I'm sure their is a reason why you can't... :signLOL:
-
I would have 135i next! It will be on the market from november this year so in 4 years time once my gti is 8 years I might be looking at a change!
The reason for that is road tax is extremely high in Ireland for high power cars and as this new model fall under 190 co2 it is 670 euros, whereas the old model would be 1600 euros. This is road tax only excluding insurance! I looked at m3 but it would be 2500 k road tax only! LOL
This rules out plenty of cars for me due to this environmental friendly approach over here - read rip off!

I went out to Bangor to see one of my Dad's sales reps, he cruises around in an M3. It was around the time I started driving and he told me of the Irish car tax, I dont think I could live with the rates over there...
-
Looking at Porsche too - just trying to find the right "one"!
-
you're damned right, that's why I am very picky regarding cars as I have to balance handling, power, looks, practicality and the fecking road tax as well!
Insurance is low on the up side but it's due to my age and no claim bonus more then anything
Paul
-
Will stick with what I know, will be either Golf R, Audi S3 or Audi RS3 (RS3 depends on money)
-
megane R26R :happy2:
-
I need a diesel for the miles, doing about 100 a day and since I live in North Yorkshire, the road's aren't great but I do like the diesel grunt.
Remapped 123D's have such gains and 0-60 times are immense for the car, although the twin turbo does help it :signLOL:
The 118D 140 is a similar speed to the VW/Audi 2.0 140 engine, probably not much difference with them at the base.
What Porsche's are you all looking at? I've done a 400 mile round trip in a 911 Turbo and that was just next level, amazed by it.
I'd probably still take the S3 over the RS3, i'm not sure why because I love the RS cars. But on the A3 and only in the sportback, I don't think it looks right, although i'm sure its an unreal speed!
megane R26R :happy2:
These are under rated.
-

These are under rated.
Under-rated but still french :signLOL:
-
I would love a Golf R, but it will probably be a barge, maybe an F10 535d.
-
French or German who cares? The reliability is similar based on my experience! :P
Paul
-
It would probley be a Golf R for me too.. or S3.
Theres nothing else out there that does it for me really
-
I'm thinking Golf R and modify it or TTRS, pay bit more but wont be able to afford to do anything to it!!
-
Not sure yet. Was thinking Polo R. But then im thinking, 2nd hand Golf R or Ed35.
But im seriously getting tired of having to mod VWs.
Maybe a new VXR or 2nd hand Meg 250 would be on the cards. Or save even more cash and just get a decent Clio 200 again and a T4 Camper to keep my VW interest.
-
Between a used 911 GT2, exige v6, used r8 v8 or a used Golf R if I have a missus who also needs to drive the car.
-
need a more door hot hatch so -
RS3
M135i
AMG Merc thingy
whichever looks best all round package after 3 yrs old
-
I would love to go back to a Porsche, just can't afford to right now. :sad1:
-
Since when has the R26R been under rated? They are supposed to be epic to drive.
My next car with be diesel and 6 pot.
-
I did drive a 535d the other day and it went like sh*t off a shovel, but I just don't think I could go back to a saloon yet.
-
Nissan GTR for me :driver:
-
Golf R or if I make loads more money this year a TT-rs
-
Going to stick to a hatch back until the day dawns that I either, get too old to clamber into one, or I have kids!
The latter one seems like a very expensive option :signLOL:
-
E46 m3 :)
-
New Polo R or a used Golf R maybe a 135i.
Out of the three the golf would make more sense with swapping most mods over, but itching to see what the polo r spec will be as the polo gti is a good lightweight package and fuel consumption is immense and unfortunately that will have to be considered for a new car with ever rising fuel prices :sad1:
-

What you going to study? Out of curiosity.
-

Have to agree, hardly underrated, held money well too, the older it gets the madder it seems that they built it, driven one on track and was very good for a stock car.
-
Oh and probs a 5 series for me, getting on a bit and I love my 1er :signLOL:
-
M135i.....think I'll wait about four years.....when prices are reasonable and I'll be 30! Would love a 911 Turbo....thats my dream....
-
As much as I would love a Golf R/S3 I often use my car for work which is the best part of a 100 mile round trip so I would be looking at Scirocco/Golf TDI or 118D.
-
Not looking to change mine for at least a year and the OH's for at least 3 but if we do it will go like this:
MK5 GTI --> Golf R/MK7 GTI/Octy VRS/MK6 GTD
Fiesta Titainium --> RR Evoque
-
E92 M3 and a supercharger conversion or maybe a Noble M12 with our GT28 conversion.
-
Golf R 3 door dsg in Steel grey and loads of extras

Golf R 3 door dsg in Steel grey and loads of extras
I'll have some of that, too :happy2:
-
Waiting to see what the new type r looks like then it's either one of those or an Ed35.
-
Apparently the new Ford Ka RS is meant to be fantastic
-
Another VW Transporter Kombi 180ps, in Candy white with Matt black roof, fully loaded. It's just been built, should have it in the next eight weeks or so. It's will have a full Sportline kit..... its replacing the same vehicle, but my present one is in black though! It works better for my lifestyle than the 997, but I do miss it.
I have the wife's ED35 for fun :happy2:
-
:innocent: Polo Gti or Polo R

E46 m3 :)
I'm with you on this one. I am sorely tempted everyday, still kicking myself for getting rid of mine. But next one will have to have the supercharger and would definitely go SMG again and carbon black. Would love the M3 CS, but they rare as.
-
^^^^
M3 CS is an absolute animal!! A friend had one for a while.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FRedRobin_05%2FBIALI%2FCSL_Richards.jpg&hash=badac83930f3dd5c8ca8eef46d6f2794d45b8b6d)
-
That's a csl robin which is supposed to be amazing, the cs was kind a posh m3 but not quite csl :happy2:
-
^^^^
Silly me! Yes, he had a CSL (the one in the pic). Lots of carbonfibre included
-
I would love one :notworthy:
-
Yep, the CSL had a cardboard boot floor, carbon fibre roof panel, no sound deadening and other weight savings, along with no radio or aircon and so on. It was 110 kg's lighter than the full fat M3 with more power. The CS was a CSL with all the normal M3 luxuries. Can't be doing without the climate, electric seats and so on, lol.
-
Ideally I'd like a C63 AMG Coupe
-
The Best Car in the World Ever!!!!!!!! - or - If Carlsberg did Cars!!!

:driver:
-
I wasn't massively impressed when I drove an M3...maybe I wasn't driving it properly.
Saving for a deposit on a house sucks...I want more power. Measly 1.2 Corsa :sad1:
-
The CSL has become a bit of a cult car, surprising considering it wasn't widely praised when it came out.
The E46 M3 is one of the best cars I've driven, I'd even say I preferred it to the 996 Turbo. It has a lovely rawness to it.

My mate Sam sold his M3 CSL (On an 04 plate), we were gutted he sold it as we used to borrow it to go to Isle Of Man for TT races, I am not a fan of BMW's (I dislike them a lot) but that is one car I would have, Carbon roof, bucket seats, SMG box and 5 settings for suspension and gearchanges etc, we used to call it the "Defcon" switch , on max setting it sounded like a spitfire and went pretty quick (363bhp i think?), I was lucky enough to drive it round the TT course a few times, we even managed to see an indicated 150mph over the mountain one day (before you drop down towards the Creg), was being egged on by Sam :signLOL: (Oh and before anyone not in the know says anything there is no speed limit when you see the black n white sign in IOM :happy2:), The police just wave at you as you go past :happy2:, if they stop you its because they want a ride in your car :signLOL: :signLOL:
Happy days, to be fair he replaced the CSL with a very expensive motorbike (His passion)
-
Getting seriously tempted by an E39 (1998-2003) M5. The V8 in that beast sounds spine-tingling. 400bhp as well. The only thing that's putting me off is the VANOS unit going belly up, many thousands of £s to replace.
-
I might be predicting it wrong, but i really reckon my next car will be Edition 40.
That's me looking into the future somewhat though...
-
Well tonight I went to look at a Laser Blue Mk5 with a sunroof, and ended up buying an E46 330Ci MSport Convertible. Oooops!
http://www.carlians.co.uk/bmw-330-ci-sport-convertible-in-guildford-surrey-2093829
-
Nice one mate. Been checking out E46 M3's again this evening. I shall not be led into temptation. Enjoy your new car.
-
Such a lot of bollocks spoken about the csl, it has the same metal boot floor as the normal m3, climate control and radio were fitted to most of them and the gear change settings only do that, not suspension, the sport button doesn't adjust suspension or steering either!
-
A Focus ST for me as i've always wanted one and then an S3.
-
The CSL came standard without aircon and radio, but it was a no cost retrofit option, which as you pointed out came on most cars. From my understanding, the boot floor is definitely made from lightweight fiberboard.
-
GOLF R 3 DR DSG !

It has a slightly lighter carpet in the boot but the boot floor is identical to a normal m3.
-
GOLF R 3 DR DSG !
....It's funny that when the Golf R first came out everyone was slagging it off, but now everyone wants one!
-
I'm quite happy with my GTI at the moment , but I would love one day to own a mint , low milage Ed30 3 door manual in Candy White , or if I leave it long enough , the same spec in an Ed35.
-
I think the edition 35s and golf r are coming down nicely in price, i really like rhe look of the polo r if im honest 2.0 turbo 220 bhp ftmfw !
The new forthcoming M135i looks a belter aswell ! And now jost capito is the sports man at vw i cant wait to see what the new mk7 edition 40 and golf r will be like !
That new st is ment to be a belter aswell just read about it in a review and it beat the mk 6 golf gti and meg 265, it was autoexpress though so ill wait for evos opinion, not that id buy an st anyway, still happy with the RS
-
isnt it a little concerning that the mk6 GTI/ed35/R is dropping price so quickly? buy one, instantly lose 5k...ouch!
-

With the MK7 just around the corner? Just the norm I'd say...

....And cars drop their values quickly anyway - Unless you shell out for the sort which costs a princely six-figure sum a car is never a financial investment.
It's the reason why some people never buy their cars new.

What shall I get to replace my Mk5 GTi? Well I thought I'd try a Mk5 GTi, with a hole in it! :signLOL:

Yes, Carr, you :happy2:
Very, very nice indeed. Very happy for you.
-
Very nice Carr I was trying to weigh up the difference in price between the S3 and RS3 but I just cannot stretch to the RS :sad1: never mind maybe in a few years :happy2:

Although perhaps 58yo is beyond 'midlife'? I'm now an OAP.

Chris.
-
i've always wondered - what car did you have before the Mk5 RR?
....A straight-six 2-door Beemer. :happy2:
-
Golf R is a nice though and I have been looking recently - just still over priced for what they are when you compare it to other cars in and around the same figures.
I stand by the fact they are still over priced for a Golf - laughable at some of the list prices of nearer £40k, not saying I wouldn't like to one. I would love an RS3 but in todays world for my needs just doesn't make sense just now.
-
Mk6 GTi for me most likely :happy2:

I've read a few threads over on audi-sport.net about a few A3/S3's that have been stolen over the past month. Makes you not want an expensive car :scared:
-
Golf R in ten yrs ;)
-
I wanted the Golf R but for the money and after 4yrs of the 2.0tfsi the 2.5tfsi was the best option.
The RS has phenomenal grip in all weather.
-
Scumbags stole my old Defender 90 300tdi County Station Wagon last week.
My springers are none too impressed about being taxied about in a Chevy Spark at the moment, so it looks like the GTI is going to be chopped in for a Defender 110 2.4tdci XS Station Wagon.
A performance vehicle in its own right - Just not the type that you're all talking about!
