Got an 06 gti model that has the optional extra sat nav facory fitted along with telephone, highline, convieniance pack etc. I notice that some of the same units have silver buttons whilst mine is all black? Just wondering if anyone knows why I.e. changed after 2006 to such etc.

It just a different revision(like the RNS 510 which has around 5!),I think the sliver button version was a revision 'C',probably a little faster and better support for newer thing's like ipod's and iphone's,i'm sure somebody else will have a better idea!

It's probably the earlier MFD2 not the RNS510 :happy2:
Does it look like this?

Like Sanj says it was prob just a revision they did after a certain time.

From my understanding, the one with the silver buttons is DVD based, whereas the one with the black buttons is CD based. There is more than likely a hardware and software revision to go with that change. The DVD is only for the navigation though, providing quicker response and allowing for more info on the disc. The latest maps I have for that unit will only fit on a dual layer DVD.

Yes it does look like the first pic. Is it worth changing for the silver buttoned one?

Not really mate. You need to get the RNS510 if you want to upgrade :happy2:

Agreed, rather get the RNS510, unless you're on a tight budget. The DVD based unit will load up quicker, provide more detail and recalculate routes quicker if there is traffic on your present route. Other than that, no reason to upgrade to the DVD version.

100% agree with above. Get the RNS510 if you upgrade. Its the first upgrade I did in my GTI. Its a brilliant unit :happy2:
Also the RNS510 has a HDD so you don't have to have a maps DVD in the unit for navigation.
