Title: Dsg Farts
Post by: bushypad on June 18, 2012, 12:38:14 am
who doesn't love them?! I was wondering if anyone knew how to make them louder? I already have a turbo back exhaust system. Is there anything else i can do?!

intake and a higher stage map should do it. or maybe De-cat.

.
Quick gear shifts cause quick rpm drops which change exhaust back pressure and so the 'fart' is the change of pressure.

DSG shifts are quicker than mortal men can manage and so the DSG will initiate more farts.

If you want them louder, eat more Mexican beans!

The problem with a de-Cat is that your car will fail MOT.

.
As I understand it, reducing back pressure is a good thing to do for performance but the compromise is less farting.

That wasn't the case with mine, they do almost disappear with the DSG map because  it speeds the changes up.  :happy2:

I now have a s3 intercooler and a fmic to fit and I have the sps+ to tweek so I hope it reappears with more timing/boost or fuel!

True TC... mine does it very rarely now.

.... x 2

Revo remap plus DSG remap. It doesn't bother me - There's plenty of other soundz from the car for me to enjoy. The Grrrrrrrrrr of engine mounts and breathing of the Twintake plus custom deep noted Milltek TBE  :happy2:

....Manual or DSG?

Farting suggests that the Shark remap doesn't reduce enough back pressure.

I thought the "fart" was due to ignition cut and small quantities of unburnt fuel entering the exhaust. It would make sense, as the noise is similar to a rev limiter (via ignition cut) noise.

Me too - Focus ST does pops and bangs through small amount of fuel erupting in the exhaust

....Popping, banging, and erupting are not the same sounds as a DSG 'fart'. The DSG farts are not due to fuel eruptions AFAIK. It's more the sound of a (exhaust) gas expulsion.

One thing I really miss about my focus ST was the shotgun bangs and pops from the exhaust!
