Hey folks ,
If anyone remembers I posted a little while ago about a strange high pitched squeal coming from the front end of my gt Tdi
Some suggested brakes , but those are new , some suggested the water pump , which will be getting changed on monday.
I just though I would offer a random peice of info into the mix
On the way to work this morning in a bid to see if I could once again work out the source of the squeak I turned the heated mirrors off...well turned the console option to the right adjustment position I believe.
Since I did that the squeak disappeared ! Would this even be possible ? Or am I just hoping for too much !
Thanks as allways
John

alternator pulley :happy2:
get your clutched alternator pulley changed - i would NOT go for an OEM VW one...simply because....its manufactured by INA - and you can get the exact same thing MUCH cheaper directly from GSF at a trade discount! make sure if you do get it from a motor factors that you insist on the INA alternator pulley and not any other brand
also change the alternator belt whilst your in there, that should fix the problem for you - certainly did on my tdi
-
Ive already had my alternator pulley replaced...well it was a rubber belt anyway , wasnt an OEM VW part either , was from my local mechanic / friend who thought it would be that.
Am i being a little dim in the fact that the "rubber belt" as i refer to it was just the alternator belt or was it the pulley ?
-
nup, the belt is just the belt.lol
the alternator pulley is the round metal 'wheel' that the belt grips onto on the alternator

have a look on there, the only bit thats relevant to you of course is the pulley bit :happy2:

I'm also looking at doing this soon.

Pulley was pretty common when I was at Volkswagen too

Thanks for your help so far guys !
Its been great !
Certainley looking like this pulley is next on the list of fixes !
Would i be right in saying its something like the following link

That video that was posted makes it seem rather scary if it goes so i want to get it resolved asap !
Is the 30 quid price about right ? what would be the cost direct from VW ? fitting time ?

Price for fitting will vary form dealer to dealer buddy, shouldn't take long tho I'd have thought?

i think VW quoted me around £60 just for the clutched pulley...
get the INA pulley from GSF and find your nearest VW specialist and it should be changed within half an hour or so if that! my mechanic did it for me whilst i stood there in a matter of minutes - quite simple

Hey guys , just for a laugh I asked VW to quote me for the cost of the alternator pulley
Got a text back this morning that I can't make heads or tails of it....
Good Morning Mr ????, the cost to replace the alternator pulley, tensioner & v-belt is 328.27 inc vat please contact Alan in service on etc
if you wish to book in ; Regards Volkswagen Telford
Now I know vw love to go nuts on costs but that just seems extreme ! Plus half of it doesn't sound like what I asked for !
Any ideas ?
