Hi all,
I found this forum about 2 weeks ago and have not looked back since.
I've been a big gti fan for years, ever since I owned a mk2 gti 16v.
I have been looking for a mk5 GTI for a while now but yet to find the one!!!
Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of buying an import?
Is there any differences to the UK supplied cars?
Any info would be great?
Thanks
H

Hi H DUBS,
Welcome to the forum :happy2:
Have a search in the main section as the import topic has been covered a couple of times, otherwise post a new question in the main Mk5 section

Welcome to the forum H Dubs :happy2:
If your looking to buy an new import then give it a good going over as it will have probably been sitting around for months, and you only get a 2 year warranty on imports, which starts when it arrived so you could have only a year or similar cover.
I cant remember the all the differences, but check the wheel is on the right side. Only kiddin, i think you may not get a spare wheel or nice leather manual cover, but i could be wrong on these.

Thanks Guys,
It's not new Top Cat. ED30 on an 08 plate, imported from Germany. I know about the 2yr warranty, and you're right I'm not too worried bout that either. I was just thinking bout the price difference, re-sale etc...

helloo and welcomes

Well how much are you saving by buying a import rather than a UK car with similar spec.
Depending on how long you keep it the difference should be similar to what you are saving in percentage terms.
You just might have slightly smaller re-sale market as some people steer clear of imports for whatever reason. :happy2:

might be worth less come resale, might not, could put buyers off, I certainly would get a uk car over an import if I was choosig between the two

Aren't they all imports?
Welcome to the site fella! :drinking:

Hi and Welcome :driver:

I've always avoided imports in the past. But now I think about it, the only thing thats putting me off is the re-sale.
The saving could be potentially sweet (leaving me some money for a few tweeks)
As i said before it's an ED30 on an 08. Does that mean it won't have a build number as its not a UK car?
Hmm alot to think about!!!!
Thanks for the help guys :happy2:

^^^ Correct about the build number plaque for import ED30's
