Title: SEAT DSG paddles on the MK5
Post by: richtung on June 23, 2012, 08:54:35 am
Just seen on the R32 forum a lad has upgraded his OEM DSG paddles for ones off a Ibiza Cupra. Looks really good:

Are the DSG paddles easy to change?

Anyone have ETKA for part numbers and price?

Thanks

Rich

nice..

ive got the OSIR ones which dont actually illuminate.. They just reflect the light off one of the angles on the paddle.

Would be nice to have them light up properly.

Are these actually metal or just silver plastic?

....I hope they're not metal because they'll feel very cold in a hard winter and too hot to the touch in a hot summer (remember those hot summers?)

I have carbon ones:

If you need them to light up to tell you which to use, you need to learn how to drive!

I dont NEED them to light up to tell me how to drive... I just prefer an OEM+ look where everything is as standard as possible but just that bit better.

Balls are they took cold or hot lol!! Need to man up a bit there mate ;) Or get gloves! lol

As for the stick on ones... not for me either and looks a bit halfords in my very humble and probably un requested opinion.

.
Rather than be led by an OEM or OEM+ style I would far rather give preference to mods which improve various functions. The tiny OEM paddles are a poor design in many driving situations (with plenty of steering lock applied, for example).

But, of course, Each To Their Own

This is true.. the extended ones I had on my M3 SMG were better... but in this instance in the GTi I just use the gear selector.... which is forwards to change up !?!?! very counter intuitive!

There great, I like the fact there long too, the standard ones and some after market ones are to small to grab the wheel in mid corner  :stupid:

I must admit that I was a bit worried whether the TID's would stay on as they only use 3M sticky pads. But I've driven well over 50,000 miles with them and they haven't budged a micron. I rarely use the lower extension but the upper extension is never out of reach. IIRC SaintSteve also has them.

I have these metal OSIR ones in my vRS which illuminate and they do get cold in the winter but not so cold they are too cold to touch. They definitely don't get too hot in the summer
