Post by: Bazgti on June 24, 2012, 09:51:03 pm

vRSAlex mentioned to me that Nick at R-Tech favours Nology, so that's another brand to look into  :happy2:

My 2005 GTi recently had an R Tech custom 1.5 map, and yes, i have found at idle (especially) the car judders more than before, both when hot and cold, could this be down to my oem plugs??

Well I know I havent had my plugs changed for at least 18 mths now, bit before I got a Bluefin Stage 1, and now that I have a custom Stage 2 remap, yes, it does judder now more than it did, so maybe worth changing them, and cheaper than oem, lol!?

a bit less than double the price, but still cheaper than OEM.

i've got a contact who i'm working with. I might see if i can get a GB going for the Nology ones

If you enter these on the NGK partfinder it shows suitability for the Mk2 Golf...!

Correct plug is the NGK PFR7S8EG according to their website. AFAIK these are the exact VW OEM plug, which have part number 06H 905 601 A.

However apparently the original factory fitments were Bosch!?!?!?

Confused yet?? I know I am!

iirc the Bosch is platinum and the NGK iridium, so no...

cheers, are we suggesting then that the iridium is the one to have on a remapped car?

in regards to the NGK BKRs, they are an uprated spark plug over the others listed as OEM equivalents. the fact that they're iridium isn't so much the point. it's more the fact that they run a little colder, and by doing so stop predetonation and thereby give smoother running.

8 is colder than 7, and on this basis people recommed the 8 for tuned cars, and the 7s for standard map cars. the reason for this is that apparently non-tuned cars won't get warm enough to burn deposits off the colder 8s, and lead to build up on the sparks plugs and rough running.

they will fit the TFSI - i'm running some, and in the link above are details of the correct BKR8IEXs to get and reviews from dozens of other people with them.

the Nology ones are silver, and they claim that they work better by being a better conductor of the spark and hence give smoother running.

both the Nology and the NGKs work out cheaper than OEM. so whether they're better or not, they're still worth having  :happy2:. at the £25 - £40 they cost they can be considered a throw-away item and can be replaced annually with no real effect on your wallet (compared with some other service items at least :rolleye:)

cheers, will they work on both the KO3 and KO4 engines, as i have a GTi Mk V (remapped)? To be honest, i only do about 150 miles per week, so not sure of this has any bearing on the type i used!?
