Title: The Chilli thread...
Post by: rich83 on June 25, 2012, 11:34:05 pm
So... i know theres a few of us on here that are 'growing' at the moment. Lets see what youve got  :happy2:

Here are some of mine.

These are Cayenne Chillis... so should be hot but not stoooopid hot.

And this is where we are now... just starting to bud flowers.

Bhut Jolokia.... stupid hot

This is where they are now, they are reported to be quite slow growing (I should have them inside really)

These are Cayenne Chillis...

So they're overweight, thirsty and shift like a train?    :pomppomp:

Looks a good setup Rich. I'm always someone who likes to push their heat tolerances in balti houses but enjoy it while doing so. Bet those will pack a good punch  :happy2:

P.s. tried a friends phaal curry last Friday night at a local franchised Balti restaurant and they'd certainly given him a challenge, plenty of Jolokias in that we were told. To be avoided unless expected  :surprised:

We go there every year, well worth the entery fee. Try the Ghilli and Garlic ice cream. :)

Have to keep note of this thread, had some plants last year, but ended up getting rid as i had the porch full of flies.

Only have one small plant this year, flowers just starting to bud.

Anyone feed there's? Just been using tomato feed before.

I've tried to grow them a few times and failed, either getting infested with unshiftable bugs or not really giving decent yield.

My Chilli plant now has some very small fruits developing, however my bell peppers and tomatoes are progressing well.  keep going out on Slug patro at 10pm each night to kill the little blighters before they make it to my plants  :fighting:

Bell Boy Pepper plant

Money Maker Tomato plant - just working two trusses at the moment, once it gets to 6ft tall I will allow other trusses to develop.  :happy2:

For the slugs just bury a pot in the garden with some beer in. The slug smells it, goes for it and drowns a happy slug.

Looking good Thor. Our largest tomatoes are at a similar stage, weve got 3/4 plants and a ton of trusses. Do tomato plants only flower once? i.e. when youve picked them all, thats it?

Better get the recipes prepared already then  :signLOL:

I think this is the Leon Tomato Ketchup Recipe.... nom nom

Tomato Ketchup (makes about 1.5l – 2l)
2-3 large onions, chopped
2-3 cloves of garlic, smashed
1 teaspoon Spanish paprika (not of the smoked variety)
3 cloves
1 blade of mace or 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon celery salt
5 tablespoons sunflower oil
2kg very ripe tomatoes
4 tablespoon fructose
200 ml apple juice
140 ml red wine vinegar
salt and pepper

These are 2 very good books with lots of useful recipes in them. The tomato book has a very good green tomato chutney recipe as you will probably end up with a few green ones.

My Scotch Bonnet plants are sick - I think the Pyrethrin spray I bought to control the aphids has hammered them, it's so disheartening to see them dying after growing from seed in April.  Is it terminal I wonder? :sad1:

Anyone have any clue about the damage to my scotch bonnets, it's the black patches on the underside of the leaves that worries me the most. Aphid damage? Although it hasn't been that heavily infested. Or pyrethrin burns? Will it recover?
