Hi guys, newbie to the forum. I purchased my gti 4 months ago but am curios to know why my car has its rear gti badge on the wrong side? It also has a 'golf' badge where the gti badge should be which other cars i have noticed don't have. Has anyone come across this before?

There was guy on here called Duncan who had a candy white import which had the same badges, think it was imported from the UAE though, not Europe. :happy2:
-
Could also have been painted......
-
Your centre VW badge, is it raised the chrome VW badge bit or flush ... Difficult to see... If it's not raised, it might not be the original boot lid :scared:
-
Yeah the badge is raised.
-
^^^ could be a new boot lid as mentioned above. Do you have a pic of the front of the car - badges on there correct?
-
This is the best pic I have of the front but looks normal to me!

The last owner re stuck new bages on & wasnt to sure which side what was where... :signLOL:
or
to personalise...
-
Did your car come with a saver spare tyre?
-
Yes I have a space saver!
-
Do you want the dimensions where the badges should be? I have them :happy2:
-
May just have been replaced as some 'little tea leaf' took a fancy to them! I think your right though the gti never had a golf badge at the back.
-
Does your car come with the interior alarm, it's on the roof lining above the b pillar inside the car. As some imports don't get the alarm
-
It could be simply the previous owner altered the badges around to suit how he/she liked them.
-
Most likely the prev owner added the badges, can't see why tho. Looks pretty bad
-
Maybe the previous owner couldn't remember it was a Golf :P
-
Not sure about the interior alarm, will check that this evening.
But I must agree it does look a bit poo! :ashamed:
If anyone would be so kind as to let me know the original dimensions for the location of the gti badge
then ill get it sorted asap!!

Is there a danger of disturbing the paint surface if you take the badges off?

Hi, there shouldn't be. You would probably be best using a clay bar to get rid of the dirt around the badges properly.
you should be able to use a heat gun/hair dryer and some dental floss to bring the badges off the car. Most of the glue should come off it if not all.
Have done this process on my Caddy 2 months ago and came up great! and those badges had been on since 2008.

Hair dryer and credit card worked for me, then a bit of elbow grease with wd40 followed by a polish and alls good on the jetta's rear.
-
Maybe a replacement boot from a standard golf and they just left the badge on it and added the gti badge to it.
-
took my badges of ok with no marks
-
Apply some heat using a hair dryer so that the glue softens and you can wiggle the badges then slowly lift them off being carefull not to a. burn your fingers or b. damage the paint. Then use some Autoglym bug / tar remover to get rid of any residue and polish.
Simple.
The previous owner for some reason had painted my GTi badge with what looked like red nail varnish so that came off almost straight way!
