Anyone? what bulb do I need where from?
-
d2s mate. cheap enough on ebay. dealers will absolutley rip you off
-
depends if you want cheap chinese D2S bulbs --> go to ebay
i can supply Osram bulbs/ philips bulbs WAY cheaper than dealer :happy2:
-
Dealers - estimating £90-£100 per bulb depending on which one I have - they said there are two types.
Want quality ones - but not silly prices
-
Whats the difference between-
- 4000k, 5000k 6000k, 10000k
- are starnd bulbs HID or halogen
-
Standard GTi fare are H7 Halogens iirc. What you have are optional Bi-Xenon's.
4300k is the standard OEM Xenon Kelvin rating. These give out the most light output. The higher you go on numbers, the bluer the light becomes and the less light output you get from the bulb. 5000k is super white, 6000k is bluer and so on.
Best bet is to stick to 4300k, a slight yellow tinge to it, but the most light output and still a lot whiter than halogens.
-
thank you :happy2: I thought the higher the number the brighter the light.......I want best light output and clean colour.
Standard is 4300k, I'm guessing (just a guess) most peope would be running the 5000 or 6000k ?
Do VW fit/use Philips bulbs as standard? why the f**K are dealers looking for £100 each? when you can get them off ebay for £30 a pair?
any way to tell if they are cheap fakes? or 100% genuine?
-
Mine went. 160€ from dealer :fighting: Then when fitted it still didnt work and the adaptive lighting controller had gone too, that cost a bloody fortune :fighting:

I know the feeling! It was right when I needed my car. My boy was born premature & unwell in germany in winter, getting dark early and I couldnt stay at the hospital so commuted 20miles each way. Luckily borrowed a friends car :notworthy:
-
Iirc the VW bulbs are made by Phillips.
Still around 60 quid from euro's, motorserv etc.
-
:jumping: still £100.00 from Euro's -

Why are they so cheap on eBay? they must be poor copies or something?
-
Think it was RichN that gave me the email address of a guy in germany that does oem VAG bulbs cheap :happy2:

There are LOADS on eBay, just seem to to cheap to be any good

OEM is 4300K - usually colour shift to ~ 4600K
Xenon bulbs colour shift over time - similar to how halogen bulbs lose brightness/lumens over time
Philips make 2 types of OEM bulbs - hence why VW quoted for two different types of bulbs
one type is when replacing in pairs - so you replace both bulbs, and over time, both bulbs will colour shift to the warmer white at the same rate
the other type is a 'CM' or colour shifted type which is already a slightly warmer type - note that it will never be an exact match! this is used when replacing a single bulb, but only recommended when your certain the other type is also a philips and has a reasonable number of hours on it - over time its shocking the number of lumens you lose!
THERE IS NO ROAD LEGAL 6000K XENON BULB!!!!
The absolute and ONLY 5000K - so BRIGHTEST 5000K bulb you can fit which is E marked and road legal in the EU/UK is the Osram 66240 Cool Blue Intense rated at 5000K and 3200 lumens
Sending you a PM now Johnny
