Post by: maxload on June 30, 2012, 11:27:39 am

Iv'e just found an article about it..  http://www.clicklancashire.com/news/national-news/1212809-%5Cdirty-rain%5C-dust-storm-hits-lancashire-and-north-west-england.html

Quote
Motorists across lancashire and North West England have found cars covered in a layer of orange dust.

It is thought the phenomenon is due to a huge sandstorm in the Sahara last week which carried grit into the upper atmosphere.

It is thought this dust has been carried north and dumped over many parts of England and possible a wider area of Europe overnight.

The layer of muck showed-up on cars and appears to have covered a wide area with reports coming in from towns and cities all over the North West and the Midlands.

Although it's not just north England as I live on the south coast!

Same in Doncaster.
Never seen something like this before. My black golf looked like it was driven in Sahara.

Same here in west yorks, although mine is sat at the dealers waiting to be fixed, with a big 'Do Not wash sign' in it  :signLOL:

^^^^  :signLOL:

I always leave a sign hanging in the car and get them to put a note on the service/work schedule (always annoys them)! Some of the stories you here about the dealers and their "washing" methods are scary as hell.

It rained the dirty rain here in London on Wednesday when my car went in for its service. I'd put a do not wash sign up in the car. When i picked it up it was covered from top to toe and side to side in filth so i thought i'd p155ed them off with my do not wash sign so they'd aimed for one or two puddles. Luckily i didn't cause a scene because when i got home and parked up i realised all the other cars were covered in it too  :signLOL:

May wash it tomorrow if i get the chance but hopefully the wax is doing its thing and she'll be okay if she has to wait

this is what i was battling this week in gateshead. driving thru literally 12"-18" of water! luckily it was the wifes car not mine. i doubt my car would have made it thru the water to be honest...

the following day it was covered in all that sandy sh!t and underneath was a disgrace.

so i decided it deserved a wash polish and wax afterwards.... then it rained again...

Clean, polished and waxed the OH yesterday and washed mine yesterday and just finished polishing and waxing, just got to do the bumper trim stuff, windows and exhaust its done. I know its going to rain Tuesday they reckon but mine was filthy before the rain due to where I've been working (they are constantly digging so get the dust rain alot on that site) so I couldn't leave it any longer

Isn't NW London Thames Water?!! If so the ban was dropped a few weeks back, not that it was ever needed in the first place  :fighting2:

*edit* just asked the mrs as she is a london lass and it appears that not everyone in london is supplied their water by thames water - that's the new thing i learned today!

Unluckily we are supplied by Veolia Central (used to be Three Valleys), who still have the ban in force :sad1:

Tell me about it. You just can't win. I spent a few hours on mine yesterday, and this morning had to drive along a road that is being resurfaced. End result is a car that has a layer of fine concrete dust all over it. Very pissed off.
