Title: Anyone got any experience of a p-flo or k&n typhoon??
Post by: gsgti on June 30, 2012, 06:14:42 pm
I know its sad, but I want some noise!! GTI is running standard at present. I am tempted by a secondhand milltek TBE in the for sale section but pushing the boundaries a bit in terms of budget with insurance increase too.

Maybe an intake will do the job giving me noise when I stick my foot down but not too chavvy the rest of the time. I had a k&n intake on my old 307 (we all have skeletons in our cupboard) and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the k&n typhoon setup?? (can't find many threads doing a search)

Since noise rather than all out performance gains is the aim didn't see the justification in an ITG or twintake. Pflo looked like another option??

any experiences of pflo or K&N typhoon (especially how noisy they are) and intake vs TBE much appreciated.

thank you folks

hey,

i had a pipercross panel filter direct replacement for about a year after buying my GTI last may. It was better than stock but a few months ago i took the leap and got a Neuspeed P-Flo.

i have to say that it is the loudest kit i think is available on the market! You can adjust the noise level simply by how far on or off the tube it is!

me and my brother have the same kit, and his is quieter than mine. It does give you a whistle under hard acceleration and it does make me smile!

it sounds good whether you give it a little throttle or a lot, but sometimes depending on revs may sound a bit like you are blowing on a bottle top. its all good tho.

i haven't had a k&n kit for the golf, but did have one for my previous Fiesta ST. it wasn't as loud as the P-Flo is but its still nice, more reserved i think. similar sounds but i much prefer the P-Flo.

Cheers for the reply TRS888. sounds like p-flo's a good option for me :happy2:

Did u buy your's at Awesome?? how much did you pay for it if u don't mind me asking??

also maybe I'm being dim but what do u mean 'You can adjust the noise level simply by how far on or off the tube it is!'

i was just trying to find a vid i took of my brothers when we got Cat back exhausts fitted , Powervalve by BCS Automotive and there was a clip from the P-Flo too.

Got it from GNJ Motorsport

http://www.gnjmotorsport.com/products/Neuspeed-P%252dFlo-Air-Intake-Kit-%252d2.0T-K03.html (http://www.gnjmotorsport.com/products/Neuspeed-P%252dFlo-Air-Intake-Kit-%252d2.0T-K03.html)

It actually had Awesome GTI sticker on the box but its £184 delivered from GNJ whereas Awesome is £188 so save £4.

i got mine first, then ordered a second one for my bro the next day, and they rang me up to make sure i wanted another one! lol

i paid £184 btw.

when you come to fit the actual filter over the pipe, you can see that there is some adjustment in how far you push it on. that affects the loudness of the filter. ill show you by showing you pictures of ours. (in next post as going to take pics now)

ill do a little vid too on a drive out tomorrow so you can hear it.

I had the Typhoon and it was really well made and made good power on stage 1. I refitted the oe engine cover on my car purely as it made too much noise for my liking.

Noob question - Slightly off topic , apologies if it feels like a hi-jack

Are induction kits worth it on my beloved GT TDI ? got a k&n panel filter in there and didn't notice a vast amount of difference

What he said, I removed my typhoon within a week, as it made a damn geese/duck sound at 3000rpm. But it was soo loud people could hear it in the back yard when pulling into the driveway. So i can only imaginr what the p-flo sounds.
