ferrari 458 convertible or rs4 convertible

Both very GAY ! Bloke at work has a RS4 convertible and gets ribbed regularly , he used to have an MX5 !

rs4 convertible

Haha, for real? I'd say that is one of the most "gay" convertibles!

Mercedes SL (R230) with a proper engine (55 AMG, 63 AMG, 65 AMG)

also disagree with the Ferrari 458 being "gay". i'm generally not a convertible fan (particularly in a sports car - what's the point?) but if my numbers came up it would take wild horses to drag me away from the Ferrari dealership for one of those, and i've always been a Lambo guy.

I never felt gay or like a knob when I used to drive my bro's Lamborghini Gallardo spider... I felt like the Snobby C U next Tuesday and drove like one too...

My mate had a Powder blue Lambo Gallardo spider , he's 6'6" 20 stone american football player and he still looked odd driving it , he's a bit over 25 !
Fantastic car and an amazing sound but he got rid , has had all sorts but now got a New Golf R  :)

Depends on your budget! I would recommend a classic convertible.

My father has a Jaguar E Type roadster and he is nearly 70, I'm 40 and and if anything I reckon I'm at least 10-15 years away from looking "right" in it! Am probably biased but the greatest looking convertible ever made.  I never look at an older man driving a classic convertible and think you prat but in a Lambo of Ferrari, always!!!!

Pagani Zonda Roadster perhaps? Or maybe Merc SLS roadster?

Or are they also in the "looks like a bell end" category too.

Convertible cars and guys a tricky combo..but...............

Convertible cars and girls a very different proposition, **expecting a RR photo to show an example of this premise along soon !!!**

Good to see i'm not the only one who thinks the same about Convertibles/Drivers

Now if i the driver/car were in the south of France would that change peoples view of the person driving the convertible. It does me a bit . Also as someone mentioned an old man driving an old car convertible seems to fit.....The 70 year old in the E type for instance

So white hair helps ?

Very few convertibles in south of France as its too hot, never get the gay comments, my mx5 is more of a drivers car than any hot hatch, 2 seats, rwd and built as a drop top is a win, s2000, mx5, etc

.
Saw a grey haired gent driving a very nice open Healey 3000 with his grey haired wifey in the passenger seat recently. It didn't look 'wrong' at all. Same with Morgans - I had a friend (who killed himself driving a Porsche in California) who used to drive a Morgan V8 with aero screens, roll-cage, and WW2 leather flying helmet. He didn't look gay or wrong!

Not all, but most convertible drivers, regardless of gender, are posers and saying "Look at me!". Convertibles are very uncomfortable with the roof down unless you wear a helmet.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FRedRobin_05%2FRR%2FRR_KTM_crop_4June09.jpg&hash=52e3d9a120dccb0cb07d93178df80bf2690ce722)

As Jay says, convertibles on the French (or Italian) Riviera are far too hot for the occupants in summer. And that's without the insects!

Robin convertables are not uncomfortable whatsoever with the roof down these days. I personally love the experience, in a proper convertable these days a girl can get in with her hair done and not look like she's been in a wind tunnel.

....It's the hot sun, excessive road noise, and hair in my chewing gum which puts me right off regardless of the wind deflector screen on modern convertibles. Plus I wear a baseball hat to shield my eyes and need prescription shades. Simply not for me in any form.

I quite liked driving a Porsche Targa when I worked in Southern Spain many moons ago in the 1970's but that's just like a larger open sunshine roof when the windows are up.

I think there's a difference in look between a car originally designed as two-seater open sports car (AC Cobra, anyone?) and a car with a convertible option (Audi convertibles )

I have to admit I felt like a giant bell-end driving the 330Ci Msport convertible that I so nearly bought earlier in the month.

Luckily my love for VW and the forum saved me!

You should only ever buy a convertible that was designed solely to be a convertible. MX5 yes, 911 no, Boxster yes, M3 no... etc etc.

Spot on!! My mum had an Escort Convertible in the 80's, it was nasty even back then but she loved it.

Still not sold on the new Golf Convertible, no doubt a great car to drive with every convenience on board but when I see it (lady on my road has one) it still looks like a Golf that's missing it's roof and not a "true" convertible, just me I imagine.

what about something like the XK that was designed as a convertible first, and then had a roof put on it?
Title: Re: Covertibles For over 30's ?

I'd give an XK the 'yes', due to the fact it's a proper sports car and designed/engineered as separate cars despite being the same model.

Poverty - there's something very British about going out for a blast with the top down, despite it being -2degrees, with a wooly hat and 3 jackets on. Like a big f*** you to the weather!!!

Is there one that won't make me think this of the person driving it ?

I can't think of one.

When I see blokes driving convertibles I dont think "Knob", but I do think it's either :-

A. Gay
B. Hairdresser (most likely Gay too)
C. Borrowing his wife's car as his is in for service

I had to drive a mini cooper S convertible 30 miles one time, I got so many looks, you could see them all looking and thinking "Gay?, "Hairdresser" or "Wife's car?", I point blank refused to drive a convertible since (Traumatized!!), oh in case some smart ar.. thinks he is funny in neither gay a haridresser of married, so no convertibles for me.......EVER!!!!!!!!!1

If you have the money for a Ferrari 458 why spoil it and get a Spider convertible?, get a proper one!.

There is a guy locally who has a 458 Spider, he gets so much grief when he has the top down, in fact I am guilty of laughing at him too, he pulled up alongside me in town with the roof down and as a couple of young girls walked across the zebra crossing (too young!!) he was revving the engine (Maybe option D should be Paedo?), I did think at that point what a knob!:P

Loved the Boxster PDK I had recently and it was a hoot to drive, but no matter how nice the weather I just couldn't bring myself to drop the roof.

Weirdly though I had a Saab 9-3 cab a year or two back and didn't have an issue driving with the top down!!

We had an MX5 a few years ago.  I could put hand on heart and say it was the wife's car.  But I took the keys at every opportunity - it was simply the best driver's car I've ever driven (and I've been a very lucky boy).  Wet roundabouts were a favourite...

I don't think there is anything wrong with a TR6, a Sunbeam Tiger or a Healey 3000. I'd happily drive these with the lid down.

And I'd go topless in a Honda S2000.

In the early 90's when I was in my 20's I got myself an mx5. Loved the drive but feck me if would I ever drop the hood, especially going through town! Felt vulnerable, gay, like a hairdresser and/ or a knob. Only time I'd ever open the roof was in the country especially up the west coast of Scotland through the twisties. Thinking back I had the car for three years and probably only did this three or four times thanks to a combination of wet weather and self consciousness.

Exactly why if I ever get a 911, it will be a hard top.

In summary, blokes, keep your tops on. Girls feel free to go topless

My earliest memories of a convertible involves a close friend's dad's 1930's Railton straight-eight coupe. It wasn't a slow car either! It was duck-egg blue and had huge rear seats and also the boot opened and had foldout small 'dicky' seats. With the hood folded down, and us being small boys in short trousers, we could hide from Simon's dad and throw rotten fruit at passers-by who would then shout and gesticulate but Simon's dad was used to people waving in acknowledgement of his very handsome car and so would smile and wave back very regally.

Simon had a particularly huge cock and was excessively proud of it and would occasionally get it out and wave it! I could write a book about the things we got up to.

His uncle had an original Brooklands Bentley with supercharger and handbrake outside the car and a massive exhaust pipe big enough to roll a tennis ball down - Which us boys did on occasion but then got well out of the way when after a splutter the ball would cannon out the back!

Nice story Robin (except the cock part) and a truly beautiful car   :notworthy:

My Brother-In-Laws father had (or still has, not sure) a 1960's Rolls Royce Silver Cloud Convertible. A rich, deep Burgundy in colour and lots of chrome, simply breath taking and with interior leather softer than a new born babies bottom covered in Sudocrem!

If my numbers came up this evening I would own one in a heart beat, I wouldn't drive it, it would just sit there (polished and buffed to within an inch of its life) for me to look at and appreciate it for the piece of automotive art that it is.

That brings me to my only problem with certain classic cars, you need to look right in them and no matter what age I reach, I will never (IMO) look like I belong in a Silver Cloud or my dads E Type or an Aston Martin DB2 DHC........ Some say it's a "class" thing, I mean the cars, not people. Rolls Royce have it, Betley, Aston, Jaguar, Mercedes to name a few all have that magical ingredient.

A Ferrari convertible does not "suffer" with such delusions of grandeur, it is what it is, beautiful, exotic, incredible to drive, unimaginable fast and fun to drive. As for a Pagani, someone's taking the piss.........

 :happy2:

They took the MGB, and made it modern/reliable/fun.

I'd have one, preferably a MKIII with a Cosworth supercharger kit

....Plus a roll-cage!

The MGB V8 was quite a car. Saw one on the road recently.

I remember when I was about 6 my mum had an MGB V8 (White), she sold it when I was 8 I think as me and my bro no longer fitted in the back!, she then got a BMW 2002   :happy2:, she always did like her sporty little cars  :signLOL:

Well just back from VW after dropping my beloved ED30 off for Warranty work to fix the rust on the tailgate and you can all guess what courtesy car they gave me?.....................................................yup u might have guessed, it's only a White Golf Convertible (61 plate), she gave me the keys with a smile (While I was doing my best Face-Palm) and told me how to put the roof down, had to stop her mid sentence and say there is absolutely NO CHANCE of me driving it with the roof down, driving home feeling Gay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Wheels for the next 4 days!  :sad1:

If I had a 3 year old son and asked him to draw a picture of a car, that's what he would draw and if you have kids you will understand what I mean by that, I'm not trying to sound evasive or rude when I say that BTW.

Someone let the desisigner/designers lose and then when done, stood back and said "Come circa la Batmobile?" to which the boss (under the influence of much Grappa no doubt) simply said "Si".

This may seem a strange thing for me to say but I would own one and I would love it but that does not mean it has class (which was and still is my point). The Footballer and Footballers wives test needs to be applied and on both counts the Pagani does not pass.

 :happy2:

Unfortunately when the chavs are earning 100k+ a week it pretty much puts ANY car on their radar and most decent/high end cars are gonna fail that test!

If you've got a 7.2 AMG engine soundtrack to listen to, who the feck cares what anyone else thinks of you!

Do I worry that some people might think I'm driving my son or daughter's GTI?

Whilst I kind of agree with you about the childish like design... I have to say that this is the beauty of this car. Following football closely I have to say that I have never seen a footballer driving one of these things. In fact the £1.4m price tag puts them out of most average footballers reach.

One false move in one of these bad boys... and you will find yourself looking pretty stupid on the back page of the Sun.

A 7.2 amg engine heard with the roof down... now that is far from gay  :drinking:

In real world prices I'd say a 335i M Sport looks pretty good for a Cab. Personally tho I'd only ever buy a cab that was purpose built to be a cab. A nice facelift S2000 or Gen 2 Boxster S :driver:

....Absoloooouutely! The owner had a lot of English class too. Jet black hair (Bryan Ferry type), well-spoken, fast open sports car, money....  He couldn't go wrong. I've lost contact so don't know what he's up to nowadays. This was back in the late 1970's. He introduced me to a client - A very attractive redhead in her 30's who had a Rolls-Royce, but it wasn't a convertible. She gave me lots of work over a year or two. Memories of fun days living in Chelsea - That's why I watch and enjoy 'Made In Chelsea'.

....I'm a single (older) lad too. Been married and got the T-shirt etc. I know exactly what you mean. 22yo you say

Yup, never married (not my cup of tea), I am too selfish free spirited to bother with that, after 15 years of "relationships" (long term 3+ years GF's or house together GF's etc) decided it was not for me, I like my freedom too much currently to settle down, plus my money is my own to spend on cars/toys and holidays  :happy2:, yup she is 22 (or 23?, I cant remember ), she is currently in her 4th (or 5th year?) year of studying to be a Vet (I know she has 2 more years left), she works part time at a local Golf Club on weekends and 1 night mid week, we are both happy with the arrangement and she is fully aware I am moving away in 6 weeks, I am sure she could find someone to fill the void (NO pun intended) quite easily as she is pretty easy on the eye, whereas I dont want a relationship for my own reasons, she does not want one for her own reasons (basically when she finishes her studies she will likely move away herself for a job so does not want to be tied down (fair enuff).

Say whatever you like lads, I have my cake...............................

I love it when people make completely unsubstantiated boasts about sexual conquests on Internet forums. Both hilarious and shameful at the same time.

I love it when someone who has absolutely no idea about me or my life or my so called "Unsubstantiated boasts", yet feels compelled to comment about it, it shows both a lack of knowledge and a hint of jealousy at the same time  :signLOL:.

She will be back on the market in 6 weeks, but after me you have a lot to live upto (That was a Boast)  :booty:

No shame in sex, we all most of us do it  :drinking:

Uncomplicated sex with a 22 year old girl? Yeah, I'd be jealous of anyone getting that kind of attention.

Broadcasting it on an Internet forum? Well that's just not classy at all.
