Hey there!
Currently drive a 55 plate Audi A3 3.2 V6 and looking to move to a Golf GTI! Anyone else made the switch from A3 to GTI?
Also, what colour is this officially known as?

Cheers :)

welcome, from one 8P owner to another! i think that colour is called Steel Grey
why do you wanna swap your A3? i'd say turbocharge it instead of swapping to a GTI
-
It's Steel Grey  It's very smart looking IMO.

Whilst I know you shouldn't buy a GTI for economy, I need something a little more than 23mpg when driving like a gran! Plus my A3 doesn't have xenons etc.

I averaged 35mpg yesterday on a near 2 hour A-road & motorway trip. Sat at about 75mph most of the time.

meh Xenons on an A3 are a simple retrofit! besides, you've gotta think of it this way: with the money you lose from selling your car and buying a GTI, how long would it take you to recoup your money from the better fuel economy? if you're driving in traffic my A3 2.0T won't give me much above 25mpg, and on a long run the max i've ever seen was 37mpg (with long stretches of 50mph average speed cameras)

I've been quoted upwards of 1.5k to get xenons refitted :) I need a new bumper as mine doesn't have the washer jets.
lol, well, the MOST i've got on a run on the v6 was 28-29, also I fancy the change. I guess you think the A3 is better than the golf?

i can't comment as i've never owned a Mk5, i think the A3 looks better, but i think the Mk5 has a better sat nav and trip computer, so it's swings and round abouts. but i don't really see the point in swapping from one to the other. plus Golfs do have some issues with rust which the A3 doesn't have.
shouldn't cost £1.5K to get Xenons refitted - they go on eBay for about £500, and you don't strictly need headlamp levellers or washers. if you were to go for them you don't need a new bumper, you can cut out holes from your current bumper :happy2:

Would you guys say it's possible to get 350 miles out of a tank driving miss daisy?
-
I get 300-350 (380 if light comes on) Generally 350 with 5-8 litres left approx
Average 35-40mpg on a 18 mile commute on A roads with cruise set between 55-60.
(Traffic light)
Drive normally, I get 280 miles to £70's on V Power :happy2:

my max is 420mi - also bear in mind that the GTI has a 55L tank, and your A3 will have had a 60L tank (all quattro/4mo cars do)

Cheers.
Are the CD changers MP3 compatible?
