Just come back from a job and found my Edition 30's driver's side rear bumper scraped - down to plastic on the top part and similarly underneath with a big smear of red paint right across the corner. The witless oaf has misjudged his/her parking manoeuvre and surprise, surprise, left no note.
Anyone have a recommendation for a good body shop in or around SW London they've used and trust, will remove the bumper correctly, paint it beautifully and reassemble the whole shebang for a good price? I'm tempted to have the middle of the lower bumper painted black as its in the body shop.....
Guys??

My god there are some w@nkers around!!
I feel your pain and I hope you can get it sorted :happy2:
-
sorry to hear that bud. Parking standards in London are terrible. I'm on the lookout myself for a good bodyshop, anywhere in London or nearby areas will do for me as i'm willing to travel for a good standard of work.

Thanks for your commiserations Maxload & Frenzy!
I've a recommendation of a painter in Isleworth, West London and also a company in West Hampstead that's been established for many years. One would hope the long established firm is still in business because their work is good; I know they do higher end marques and the car's I've seen in their yard are always properly stripped and prepped rather than crudely masked with newspaper as I'm sure we've all seen in backstreet garage's up and down the land!
I'll report back.
-
Here are a few shots of the damage shot with my iPhone. Apologies for the quality.
What would a rough estimate be for bumper removal, prep and painting and reassembly?
Thanks Gents.

This happened to me with my jetta but on my front bumper, but haven't had it sorted yet, I'd get some polish out and get rid of the red paint and see what marks your left with, as in the pic it looks much worse with the red paint still on, nice bit of super resin polish will get the red off.
-
Paul, that's a sh*tter. I paid 144 for a total rear bumper respray but that was up north.
-
Thanks Dannyboy.
Removing the red paint will certainly divert the eye but ultimately it'll have to be repaired. There wasn't a mark on it previously of course!
If I ever get my hands on the moron with the scraped red bumper I'll f@%king throttle him/her!!
-
Hey Rich
Thanks for your condolences. I'll hopefully find a good paintshop somewhere locally. I've tried a search through the forum but so far not come up with a SW London recommendation.
Cheers

I think I've found the car that scraped mine; a Mini Cooper is parked further down the street with a bumper now devoid of red paint in exactly the spot my Golf's bumper is wearing the very same red paint. What do I do? No one saw the incident and the driver of the Mini will surely deny doing it. I'm pretty the Mini driver is the culprit but how to prove it?!
Cars eh?
-
Get as many photos as you can. Take some height measurements to show that it matches yours. Take the reg number.
Leave note on windscreen.
If you don't hear anything, ring your insurance.
-
Took Richwig's advice and left a very visible note - lets call it more a document - on the offending Mini windscreen. I sealed it in a Parking Ticket see-through envelope I just happened to have. Whether anyone actually responds to this is anyone's guess.
If the situation becomes prolonged I may have to resort to other tactics.
Anyone know a forensic lab where I could have the paint left on my bumper matched to that on the Mini's? (I'm serious!)
Here's the note:
Hello owner of Red Mini LE04 @£$
Please see attached photos of the damage you inflicted to the rear of my Golf.
I'd appreciate a phone call to settle the matter; I've had one quote today from a reputable bodyshop and am getting another quote for the repair tomorrow.
My phone number is:
07973 @£$%^&
Many thanks
Paul
-
That's a pretty good letter and any decent person would surely respond.
I'd love to know if you recieve a reply , keep us posted :happy2:
-
I'll certainly update this thread with any mutterings from down the road......
Here are the shots of the alleged culprit:

....and my bumper...

In a court of law probably not conclusive but the colour is bang on, the tell tale trail is much the same and the paint is freshly broken on the Mini and freshly smeared on my car. And it was parked directly behind mine when I returned from Paris on Monday. Voila!!
-
Isn't that your silver paint on the mini aswell? Everything seem to match to me, hope you get somewhere with the owner of the mini.
-
It does appear so - my car wearing Mini red is tell-tale enough but the silver does rather give it away!
I've not heard anything yet; the owner may be away of course.
Thanks Dannyboy. The case continues!.....
-
What is wrong with people they just don't care about other peoples cars if you can't park in a space you shouldnt be allowed behind the wheel this happened to my grill on my r32 freshly smoothed perfect paint job then someone scrapes along it in a car park no CCTV no note and I had to get it done 3 times to get it right how I wanted it and I still don't think it's 100% how it was
-
So upsetting Stu.
I've just arrived home and I've had a text from the Mini owner.
Hopefully we'll have a chat tomorrow. There is hope after all....
-
Good luck. Hope they're feeling some remorse..
-
Further news.
The Red Mini owner has contacted me and we met this afternoon. He hasn't exactly admitted liability but is kind of blaming his girlfriend who he says didn't realise she'd even touched my car!
The chap then rather sheepishly agreed with the obvious paint damage to both cars being his car's fault and will wait for me to get 2 quotes. Who knows who was driving; I haven't seen his girlfriend drive and frankly don't care who caused the scratches.
I just want it fixed.
I went to see Reuben at TuningWerks in Croydon for a quote on a recommendation from someone on the forum. A lovely, well informed guy who obviously knows his VW's & Audi's and probably every other make of car too. Need another quote from someone too. Any ideas for good bodywork and paint shop in SW London area?
-
At least u caught him now he has to fix it
-
Result :congrats:
-
So far a nice result to a sum what pants situation.
That paint transfer is certainly off the mini as the moving car always loses some paint with bumper to bumper contact. Thankfully the person read the note with a conscience.
Good luck with everything else.

Thanks Nick!
There are some good people out there - this guy and his girlfriend have just moved into our street.
He's done the right thing and I like to think we'd all do the same.
Cheers.

glad to hear you've got a result, would be better of course if folks simply learned to park and most essentially engage the brain before attempting the impossible. nowt wrong with getting out the car to assess if you have the space/clearance, unless you're on a very busy road in which case if you aren't certain find somewhere else to park, it really is quite simple.

Grove Autos In Beckenham.
Was trading in cars a few years ago and used them for all my cars (Mini's Fords Golfs) no orange peel and that crap.
Haha they still have a Mini scoop i asked them to spray white to match the roof on my good ladies old gunmetal grey S.
0208 778 3551, if you go to get a quote ask paul to have a look at it if he is in.
Not doubting Rueben knows his stuff, but when it comes to respraying I would prefer to use a company/person that specialised in the field.
-
Hate that, someone in my car part dinked my van the other day #nothappy

All Repaired!!
Grove Autos in Beckenham have done themselves proud and thanks to Marvin Bristol for giving me their name.
I'll put a few before and after shots up later but for now here's the car at Grove when I picked it up. I had them black the centre of the lower bumper - think it looks very smart. The repair is great, the paint match perfect and Allan couldn't have been nicer. Job done! (Apologies for the rubbish shot - very bright British Summer day)

Thanks to everyone who posted - the guy who did the damage will pay and lesson learnt hopefully. Don't hit parked cars 'cos the owner WILL FIND YOU!!

Glad you got it all sorted. You were lucky to find the culprit.
Got to my car this morning parked on my drive to find this.

A nice long scratch all down the passenger side of my car from front to rear.
No chance of knowing who did it unfortunately.
-
^ Postman? Paperboy?
-
Nope, it happened overnight. It's definitely someone with nothing better to do than damage other peoples property. The scratch goes from behind the headlight over the wheel arch, across the doors and onto the rear fender.

Thanks to everyone who posted - the guy who did the damage will pay and lesson learnt hopefully.
Don't hit parked cars 'cos the owner WILL FIND YOU... AND HE WILL KILL YOU!!!!

Pleased you got it sorted and that the bodyshop were reputable. Great excuse to get in a cosmetic mod as well! :signLOL:
-
You gotta take every opportunity that presents itself!
So out of an annoying scratch came the chance to subtly mod the lower rear bumper. And I think it looks rather good. Decided against a matt finish which seems prevalent on every Beemer I see and went for gloss black. We'll see how it looks in 6 months.
-
Glad you got it sorted, the damage looked a lot worse in real life than the photos. Repair looks great.
-
I knew the boys at Grove wouldn't let you (and me) down!
Now i need to get mine in for the colour coding.
:jumping:
