Title: Phil Miller
Post by: SteveP on July 04, 2012, 06:00:09 pm
As some of you will have seen in the chat section Phil Miller was seriously injured while attending a road side breakdown on the A30, he's currently recovering in hospital.

We would like to arrange a collection for him, which is now live here: -

I saw in his signature he was after a highline ccm (whatever that is)?

Perhaps we can club together and get him something he wanted for his car and arrange for it to be fitted etc?

Personally if it was me i'd probably like that more than flowers and chocolate etc..... but then i dont know what level of gift people were thinking?

Well I've  tried 3 times to send a donation using this crappy 3G signal...it's time to give up. :sad1:

I can send a payment when I get back to my sister in Rome on the 13th, but will that be too late?

If so will someone mind paying my donation and I will send it back on the 13th???

Thanks,

Carlo.

Just spoke to his partner Rachel, who says Phil is doing great and should finally be coming home from hospital today.

She mentioned that he'd read the other thread on the General Forum and was very moved by everyones comments and wishes of good will.

I'd spoke to her about anything particular he may be wanting to purchase etc so will update you all in due course.

I think I'd be inclined to offer the cash.  It might just be that after having some time off work due to injury that the money could be better spent on things other than his car at the moment.

I think to 'us' it matters not what it's been spent on, we've given to support a valued member of the community and that support should be used in the most appropriate way to make things more comfortable for him in his time of need.

....We won't accept any 'rejection' of our donation. It will probably make Phil and Rachel feel very embarrassed but we shall have to make them realise that it's what we all wanted to do and they have no say in the matter. Our donation/gift is spontaneous and from the heart.

If it helps for anything to be written on behalf of us all, I'm quite good at that sort of thing [he said modestly] and I would want it to be with SteveP's full approval of what's written. But Steve may wish to do that himself or just hand over in person.

Aye Aye! We all know how annoying/frustrating it is saving for a new mod, or when a bargain comes up in the Classifieds we don't have the funds there and then. I say we make Phil aware of what's been happening and how much he has to splash on his car. I don't know his current circumstances but he may have more pressing financial issues that modding his Mk5. Definitely worth letting him know he's got a little Easter Egg waiting for him.  :happy2:

Yeah it was, and still is, hidden from public and Phil Miller. If you look next to Phil's name on any of his posts you'll see 'Temp Exclude' above his "Won't Shut Up" Post Count Status.

Maybe time to reveal all to Phil and tell us all how much we raised.

Whats the latest on this?

Hate to suggest it but kinda hoping its not all a massive scam now?

....Your posted link is to a thread about LED conversion. What's making you think this could be a "massive scam"?

I think he is saying that Phil is active on the forums and making a recovery to the point of spending time / money modifyig but not been back over here for a while despite Mr P trying to make contact. I don't really get where scam comes into it though??

Okay but I didn't see Phil Miller's name in the linked thread. < EDIT: Saw his name! But is it the same 'Phil Miller'?

If money hasn't passed hands, surely no-one can say Phil Miller is operating a scam. Plus it wasn't Phil Miller's idea to collect this money but a spontaneous collective gesture from this forum. Is he too embarrassed!?

I don't understand or am not suggesting there is anything untoward.

Phil just made a post on the other forum about getting amongst a group buy of some sort that's all.
At least he's well enough to have time for such things and hopefully he'll be back around here soon

No, Jedi is the one who brought up the question of scam (Reply #213).  :happy2:

OK sorry. maybe a bit out of line to suggest its not genuine and my apologies to the guy that runs the forum who kindly set this up.

Just seems odd in 2012 that we cant get in touch with him especially when it appears he is well enough to be online now (which is a good thing in his recovery)

It will all come out in the wash.

The 'Phil Miller' in the other forum is from Tavistock, Devon, and isn't shy about posting his mobile #. Appears to drive a black Mk5 TDI with GTI parts < Same as the member here.

Is 'Phil Miller' the name of someone famous which has been adopted as a forum name?

May be putting 2+2 and getting 5 here, but is there another reason why Phil isn't active here anymore?

I recall the subframe bolts group buy had some problems/complaints due to packaging and hope this hasn't put him off this forum.

Phil refunded me very promptly and was very apologetic

Didn't mean it like that, but in the sense he was doing a good turn and it went a bit pear shaped.

That link says he has a T25?

Anyway I think we are jumping to conclusions a little bit.

If Phil is seriously ill the last thing he will want to do is come on here and thank everyone especially as it involved cars as well.

If he doesn't come back, I am sure the money can either go back to the individuals at there request or be donated to a charity or the forum?

Get well soon Phil if you are reading this :notworthy:

I doubt it but:

Bit too obscure?

Does someone on here not know Phil or live near him that they could put this mystery to bed?

It all seems a bit odd you regulars have heard nothing much from the chap.
