Title: I'm at a loss on what car to get next
Post by: Moz on July 06, 2012, 08:49:57 pm
Firstly let me start off my saying I am impatient and impulsive so I have decided to sell the GTI after 2 months.

I'm just utterly stuck on what to get next.

I need to free up some funds, so the GTI is going and I'm looking to spend £4k on a car.

I want.

TDI
140BHP Min
3 or 5 door
Comfy for longish trips every few weeks
Well spec'd with Xenons, Sound system, arm rest.

Any suggestions?

I've been playing over and over

Astra SRI 170 CDTI
Bora 150 Highline
BMW 320D

MK4 TDi Anniversary.....

I do miss my MK4 in some ways, but I've had 3 of them now, and after the MK5 I'm not sure I could go back to a MK4

Fair play, I could never go back to a Mk4 either, but what about the Mk1 Leon Cupra (or was it FR?) TDi 150? Much better looking than the Mk4 as well.

Plus any of the MK4 PD150's (Golfs, Boras and anything else with the ARL engine) that have reasonable mileage on will want a new camshaft and followers if it hasn't been done already. My old MK4 died a slow death due to incompetence of a local VW/Audi 'Expert'  :fighting:

Haha yeah fair point. I had a 1.8t then a 110 gt tdi and then a 130 asz also they were great cars, but even the latest model, is still now a little old for me I think

I'd go for the Bora then mate. I love the shape of those, and never understood why VW went back to the Jetta name.

Really? Cause I never understood why they used Vento and Bora, when they kept Jetta in the USA.

Bora sounds a lot better in my opinion. And Jetta reminds me of the hideous disaster that was the Mk2 Jetta, a Mk 2 Golf with awful rectangular lights and a saloon boot drafted on the back

Mk2 Jetta was epic. I had one with a 2.9 vr6 lump from a Rado. Handled better than a Golf too. :)

Aye, I'm going to put it into a service as this is due in October and then sell it first.

I agree, and whilst spec wise it's a nice car. I'm sorry but it's just ugly.

That dealer is, well, not someone I'd be buying a car off.

That enough to stop you?

The brakes are shocking and the steering woolly, though i've had one on the 155mph limiter with the top down...

Lovely motor, but I'm only looking to spend £4.5/£5k. As I need to free  a few K against the value of the GTI

Diesel Focus is not a bad option  :happy2:

I had an 08 plate for a year as a company car, clocked up 51k miles in that year  :star:

1.8tdci has plenty of grunt, handles well and will do 65+mpg if your steady with it. IIRC Richard Hammond drove the Mk5 golf, the focus and the Astra and LOVED the way the focus drives above all the others. The facelift (08 on look better too).

My 2p's worth
