Title: cruise control fitted now warning lights on dash on.
Post by: pd9264 on July 07, 2012, 08:15:02 pm
hi just fitted cruise control and had it coded. but i now have a fault code which i think is steering colum module. i have three lights on the dash board
esp light
orange steering wheel
and the tyre pressure monitor symbol
iv driven the car for around 30miles now and they havent gone out.

iv removed everything and refitted to make sure i hadnt missed anything out. but still the same. iv tried setting the steering sensor by turning the steering wheel all the way to the left then all the way to the right. but no success. any ideas of whats happend.

Did you check the pins? Did you see if there is any markers on slip ring to show if it needs to be lined up is connector at steering module connected properly? I check all fuses related to steering module.

Also post up the fault code

Did you complete all the basic settings afterwards?

what basic settings are these?

The sensor needs to have the basics settings restored. This will extinguish the orange steering wheel light. Park up on flat level ground with steering wheel straight, go full lock left and hold for 10 secs, then back to the centre for 10secs. Repeat going full lock right for 10 secs then back to the middle. Afters this drive forward in a straight line no more than 10mph and the light should go out. The esp one should do as well after a little distance.

As for the TPMS, that might just need setting as you normally would once the basic settings have been done. Not sure though as I don't have it.

i tried resetting the basic settings but it doesnt turn the lights off. i tried it 3 times. iv checked everything is is pushed in correctly. the slip ring can only go in one place as its got pins that feed oin to the seering wheel. so that is defo in the right place.

Do Steering Angle Sensor Basic Setting
After successful basic setting, the Steering Limit Stop needs to be adapted too.

To be honest I think it was my fault. I guess I should of disconnected it when switching on converter. From what I can see it was the negative pin which managed to short. Never mind Ross tech have been ace.

As promised, the best order I find is as follows, (I do this when ever I take the steering wheel off) using information from rosstech wiki (http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/VW_Golf_(1K)_Brake_Electronics_(MK60) (http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/VW_Golf_(1K)_Brake_Electronics_(MK60)))
1. ABS Module
- G200 sensor (lateral acceleration sensor)
- G201 sensor (brake pressure sensor)
- G85 sensor (steering angle sensor)

2. Steering assist module
- G85 sensor (steering angle sensor) - same procedure again
- Steering limit stop

If done correclty all your warning lights should go out and back to normal.
