Title: Stevies Jettaah
Post by: Steviedubs on July 08, 2012, 10:46:19 pm
Hey guys only just joined up but thought I throw up a thread for my car so far.
I've had the jetta for about 3 months now and in that time a fair few changes which you'll see
It's only a 1.6 FSI SE but well specced with auto lights/wipers, cruise and all that jazz!

So anyways down to the progress so far and mores importantly piccies!  :pomppomp:

So this is it when I got
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Frr103%2Fsteviedubs%2F4fde5a16.jpg&hash=ce533ebc06c78f9657fc13f6759ee26238fd5a44)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Frr103%2Fsteviedubs%2F1a9ac37d.jpg&hash=ae919814c5f7e04bcab4401d18ba284ad6880d08)

So let the tinkering commence....
So I got coilovers but didn't put them on till I got the wheels
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Frr103%2Fsteviedubs%2F4f093b44.jpg&hash=770f30237cf3477d39616c4ef3a9341d663fca87)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Frr103%2Fsteviedubs%2F86c83afd.jpg&hash=dbeb905c26c61abaa3f21f15341c7b04f95ef0c9)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Frr103%2Fsteviedubs%2F12c0dbeb.jpg&hash=29a2bf860e250625fe9ae602f9d85eab5bc650ad)

 Then got the US tailgate
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Frr103%2Fsteviedubs%2F88a97f75.jpg&hash=44e34a17f3ac1de96a8023b748e11e618216f411)

Sorted out how it sat at the back, dialled in some camber as the scrubbing was waaay bad,
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Frr103%2Fsteviedubs%2Fc653761b.jpg&hash=41eb9be3387410a8f1f6d909115b751597ddd0cd)

Then I picked these up to freshen up the interior
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Frr103%2Fsteviedubs%2F087960ef.jpg&hash=cb003a8198a77727614629743a16e5d7f735ec11)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Frr103%2Fsteviedubs%2Fa4275065.jpg&hash=623513f0197d0ff7c5b9cb7a3bdfae02ae42ffd4)

They came with the leather door cards and ally trims aswell!
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Frr103%2Fsteviedubs%2F2f53bf83.jpg&hash=b771d9fe2efea8f3563eab9225d190988bd891bb)

But the doorcards didn't fit the jetta?! So some light modification was needed
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Frr103%2Fsteviedubs%2F86703a46.jpg&hash=52c613cf9e1a03bef510387901042140960e8b36)

And these arrived the other day but have yet to fit them
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Frr103%2Fsteviedubs%2F055ab870.jpg&hash=876a00e286ea636cfa71fab3391be6a54ece9d82)

So that's it so far, so if you made it this far thanks for looking and any comments are welcome!

Cheers Stevie

Cheers guys, oh and by the way the door card doesn't look like the pic, I swapped the top of the jetta doorcard onto the edition 30 doorcards so there 1 off!

Are the rear wheels out to far to be legal?

I thought they have to be under the arch to be road legal.

nice car and looks hard as nails though. :happy2:

It was £50 for the headliner doing at A.S Pickerings which is local to me in Bradford, I asked MJ interiors as there in Bradford too but they wanted £200!! So I thought screw that, but I'm really happy with the the OEM-ness of it.

Perfect colour/material combination of body colour and front grill and alloys. Also the Interlagos cloth suits metallic grey so well. Extremely stylish job (and I don't much like saloon cars).

X2. Pretty sure it's just the plate surround that is the problem. Which is a shame! US plate looks really good though!

....Yep, the numerals etc themselves look legal size and style, it's just the legibility aspect on the 'B' especially and slightly on the 'V'.

I know it sucks about the plate surround being a cockhair too big, but I don't want to ruin the surround by trimming it down especially as it was 70 dollars inc postage from California. Yep I'm  :stupid: haha

I had it done at a retrimmers called a.s Pickerings that's is up here in Bradford, only cost me £50 which I thought was cheap considering mj interiors wanted £200! I couldn't be happier with the result it just looks totally oem.
Be warned that the headliner is a maaajor pain in the arse to get out of the car, be prepared to swear...a lot!

Sooo no new updates yet as I'm seriously considering getting mkv GTI as a nice ones come up at a good price at work. Soo that leads me onto the next part of my post...to sell or strip?
A. Sell the jetta as is or
B. return the jetta to standard and chop it in against the golf
What's everyone think? If anyone's interested in bits the give me a shout as well

.
The modded Jetta is far more individual and unusual than the GTI. Does the Jetta have a different engine? If so, the GTI engine will be better. Jetta = Golf + Boot.

Btw, your rear number is definitely TECHNICALLY illegal - You should have 11mm clear space each side. I doubt if you'd get stopped for it but if you got stopped for something else and/or gave attitude.......

Post by: Steviedubs on November 19, 2012, 03:45:55 pm
Yeah it only has the 1.6 FSI lump in it so I'm after more power. the whole body is different inc the doors the roof profile is lower on the jetta as I found out when trying to fit pillar trims from an edition 30!
I know it's illegal but it just looks so darn cool! Lol it'll be coming off anyhow if return it to standard.

Thanks for the positive comments guys, still torn on whether or not to sell up for a gti. I've sort of reached a plateau with it as I'm stumped for what to do next to it! Lol any ideas?

I eventually got bummed for the rear plate but was expecting it so no I told you so's robin! Haha

As for the DRL's Grande they were the easiest thing on the car to do, just need vagcom. If your close to Bradford I can do it for you if you want em doing?

Haha thanks, it's reserved for show purposes only now, but will probably get a tin yank plate from statesplates.com in time or show season.

Btw has anyone retro fitted US running lights into a UK spec bumper? Only reason I haven't done it yet is because I think it won't sit flush and not look right.

Cheers dude, I've just had a look but they don't look flush to me, think I may just save for gen us bumper.

Yeah that the only thing putting me off cutting my bumper as I'd want them flush. Not sure tbh, I know the gti bumper is £380  :surprised: haha, hopefully the jetta bumper will be cheaper.

Made a little change on the interior today, scirocco arm rest. It's longer than the mk5 item and is black so matches the edition 30 seats a lot better than the old armrest.

Looks like I'll be staying with the Jetta for a bit longer, probably repolish the dishes or get new wheels, I'm not sure which yet. I'm a sort of plateau with it an stuck for what to do next? Any ideas guys?

Funny you should say that as I've seen a couple of jetta TFSI's for sale recently and thought about stripping mine to standard part exing and putting everything onto stevies jettaah 2.0
