Afternoon.
I have owned the Jetta now for just over 20 months and have during that time racked up a massive 47,000 miles meaning the car has nearly 130,000 miles on the clock. Apart from needing a new clutch and DMF it has been pretty cheap to run however with the high mileage and the Turbo starting to whistle (may just be Owling and nothing wrong with the Turbo) I am starting to think now is about the right time to sell it and getting something else. As much as I would like to go back to petrol, due to my slightly higher than average annual mileage of 22k PA Petrol would just not be practical.
My budget is £6k but this is based on being able to sell the Jetta for £3.5k
I am currently looking at.
MK5 2.0 GT TDI Golf 140BHP 2006+ with 70k+ on the clock
Jetta 2.0 140BHP 2007+ with 70k on the clock
Passat Estate 2007+ 2.0 140BHP with 60k on the clock (known issues with the electronic handbrake sensors so will need to factor the cost of replacing both sensors into buy price)
I like the look of the newer style (Mk3?) A3 but am not a massive fan of the interior like an ugly dog, could get used to it.
Audi A4 Estate 2.0 140BHP 2006+ with 80k+ on the clock
Audi A3 Aeroback 2.0 140BHP 2006+ with 80k+ on the clock.
If I get another VW my preference would be a 2007 model to overcome the Gateway powerdrain issue as I intend using the RCD510 from the Jetta. Apart from rust on the wheel arches are there any other issues I need to be aware of. On the Golf are there known issues with the rear screen wiper/water pump leaking like there is with the MK4?
My must haves;
In addition to the usual like decent tires, brakes, bodywork condition etc..
Full service history, mix of indie and VW is fine with sales invoices
Lowest mileage possible
Cambelt changed
Dual Zone Aircon
Five doors
SIX SPEED
Estate would be preferred as I can’t use the full boot real estate in the Jetta.
What I am looking for is something that will weather the miles without too much maintenance. Mod wise I don’t expect I will do much to it, possible stoke it with the lowering glove and couple of minor mods but that will be about it. Call me a sheep but OEM looks best!
My daily commute is 80 miles, 70 of which are on motorway where I tend to stick to the 65-70mph Granddad range so it doesn’t have to be fast just able to outpace a snail!

Skoda Octavia VRs diesel is what im looking at

Consider leaving VW? The BMW 530 really is an immense car.

Notice all those cars pretty much have the same 2.0TDI engine, so as a wildcard consider a Seat Altea FR.
You'll get one within budget, will come with all that spec you require and you can use your RCD510 with a genuine £15 fascia.
Big boot, spacious and rear seats tilt/fold/move on rails etc. Good family car.
-
Strange you should mention the Altea FR as i had a look at a 2007 Leon on the way how from work this evening. Certainly within budget but i didn't like the interior, it was more to do with the centre console than anything else. The biggest problem at the moment is selling the Jetta as the only enquiries i have had so far have been from scammers.
-
Agree about the dash, we have an Altea and my bro-in-law has a Leon Cupra and they are at Pug levels of plasticness.
Did you see if it even had a glovebox light?
However ours has leathers, navi HU, 3 spoke MFSW, highline clocks, armrest and dual climate control - certainly easier to look at than most I've seen but I know what you mean.
-
LOL didn't check the glovebox. I took it for a wee spin round the block and it drove ok but as i spend 2-3 hours a day in the car the interior is pretty important to me. It may be just me but i found the seats to be very unsupportive, the seats in the Jetta are much better.
-
This is really starting to annoy me now as of the 6 people who have enquired about the car, two have not shown up and four have been scammers. I had one guy phone me earlier with a thick Polish car offer me £2k (asking £3,700) and had a go at me when i politely refused his offer.

I'll probably get shot down for this, but are your choices not a little :indifferent:
Go on, get a GTi, you know deep down you want to :happy2:
