Title: Tornado GTI - new carbon
Post by: S800BRN on July 10, 2012, 10:31:58 pm
Right, folks. The A3 has gone and I've moved on...
So I've returned to a GTI
Spec is 3 door manual, 42k miles, 18" monzas, leather recaros, MFSW, highline, winter pack, parking sensors, armrest, iPod connection in glove.
Almost no photos as I was planning getting it polished up before posting but the weather's not having it.

I had a 2.0 TDI Sportback. Wanted back in a petrol, and kinda did all that I wanted to the Audi.

i know the feeling, iv never had a proper performance petrol, but i used to have a little 1.6 fiesta zetec-s which was fair nippy and very fun to throw round corners, i now have a mk5 1.9tdi which is boorrriinnnggg! waiting to change insurance company then i get go for a GTI next year i think!  :driver:

what made you go for the mk5 over the A3 2.0Tfsi tho?

i personally prefer and adore the mk5 gti over pretty much most other cars on the road

I've always felt the Audi looks a little too fat, much prefer the MK5 shape, lovely!

I'm kinda the same, simply prefer the look of the GTi. Also driven an A3 2.0t quattro and didn't rate it compared to the Golf.
Plan on chamging the wheels, lower it for sure and change the rear lights then we'll see what else after that.

Finally got her cleaned up. Sealed with Blackfirewax - only wax I had that was suitable for darker colours, was that or poorboys natty paste wax.
Anyway - took just the one pic. Can't wait to change the rear lights!

This is an essential mod IMO.
Also fitted, MTec bulbs, a Porsche coolant cap, waiting for smoked indicators.
Monzas and standard ride height are killing me!
Can't wait to get new wheels and lowered!

Fitted Mtec dipped and LED sidelights today. No pics, tho.
Not overly impressed by the Mtec H7s too be honest, certainly a lot whiter light but not much better visibility.

Great seats!
The rear lights totally transform the look!

Do red vw's suffer the same fade issues as fords/vauxhalls?
I've not seen many faded vw's but presume they are just looked after better!

Actually I don't think I've seen faded mk4s or mk5s. Can understand a mk2 going as I presume paint technology has moved a lot since then - although I've seen some shockingly faded 09 red corsas - vauxhall need to up their game!

If you look at the picture at the top of the page you'll see the difference. Basically the R32/Ed 30 rears are a darker red.

Scott,

Are these black mirrors casings job easy to do, sorry for my ignorance, but I'm thinking of black mirrors for CW Eddy.

BTW The Recaro seats are mint.

Cheers, Mark. They're real easy to do. They just pop off. A small flathead screwdriver with a rag, prise the housing away at the bottom of the mirror first, then just work your way round then they just lift off.

Update - got my coilovers on. Went for FK numbers, fairly solid ride. Need to wind the front down a touch I think.
Also got a gloss black MK6 rear VW emblem.
Some crap iPhone pics as normal

Still need vw centres - once I've the wheels off for them I'll prob take off the mud guards or at least the rears. They scrape coming in and out the drive anyway.

think I may have to wind my coilovers up. Getting a fair bit of scraping.
I'll try the screw arch removal mod 1st, if that doesn't help I'll try them up 5mm or so.

Those arches look nice and tight at that height.

The badge looks surprisingly good too! Not usually a fan of blacked badges (not that it matters).

Cheers, Dan. I don't want to raise it as I love the way it looks so hopefully I'll just get away with removing the arch liner screw.

I agree with you there Scott, sometimes little is more, what you have done so far is tastefull as for colour coding mmm not sure of that i thought of it at first,on the grounds that it would make polishing easier, but as the wife has said it takes it away from the original gti look, yes the ed30 is colour coded but the black makes the gti stand out better imo.

I do like the colour coded look. But I quite like how the black textured bumpers tie together the black wheels etc.
I will colour code at some point but for now I can live without it.

They're from eBay. They differ a little compared to the previous ones I that the screw for securing doesn't line up. However the clips are of a good, snug fit.
