Title: Pirelli GTI
Post by: Tejinder on July 17, 2012, 08:34:54 pm
Hi all

I might have the chance to purchase a MK5 Pirelli GTI and just wanted to know a few things

How desirable are they?

And how many were produced?

I read somewhere that only 222 were made!

Thought there would have been more than that made, having said that theres only 4 or 5 for sale on autotrader!

Any help is appreciated guys thanks!

Tej

no you're right. they were a very limited edition car.

not sure of the exact figure, but 222 sounds about right

the Edition 30 is the same mechanically, and more of those to choose from  :happy2:

They are a little bit desirable and 222 was the number I read. It's pretty much an edition 30 so no need to pay over the odds.
I like mine and they might get a bit of a classic status later on but don't bank on it.

I had a look at a few that were on Autotrader recently before i bought mine.Walked away from them not as clean/well looked after/good spec as i was looking for. I think 2 of the ones i looked at have now been sold or maybe just not readvertised. Think at the time there was 7 available in the uk that i could find.

i prefer the styling of the ED30 but would be cool to own a proper limited edition. i like the tyre track seats in the pirelli but think the alloys are poor for a limited edition the monza II look better as well as the pescara

I agree, I think they look pretty 'after-market' as standard, but FlashP on here has his painted a few shades darker, and with the Pirelli centre caps, his look awesome.

Just change the wheel colour...(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi326.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fk438%2Fflashp%2Fnearsideview.jpg&hash=9bc980d23e8e950e5e05b882f985b5bf1fbbbd41)

Took me while to know where the 'P' was in the design. When you know it's screamingly obvious!  :pomppomp:

Got these for winter tyres later...black with a dusting of silver then lacquered.

Thanks! Have you seen your old wheels above Ian? Got them back Friday. Can't wait for winter to see them on the car!

Do you find yourself reaching for the clutch pedal in the R32?

Also, where are the front fogs on the R32?

Stunning pair of cars in your driveway. I suppose your wife is a 6'2 model too? I'm the jealous type!

:signLOL: I'm not quite old enough for a wife yet

Yeah does feel weird jumping in and out of the two after driving one for a while

The MK5 R32 didn't come with front fogs. Kind of wish they did. I actually like the yellowish tint the GTI's fogs give off

The GTI does feel faster than the 32 but that's probably because I'm not used to having a turbo.

I do think it would be very close as a rolling start but from a stand still the 32 would kill it.

Interesting. Are fogs not standard on any R32's or is yours a freaky one?

No, fogs didnt come with any R32 MK5.
People have retro fitted MK6 golf and new scirocco LEDs to the lower grills and they do look nice
