Title: Running too rich?
Post by: E30Dom on July 20, 2012, 07:09:56 pm
Hi guys...

I know running rich is better as it cools the cylinders etc...

But, since getting my APR HPFP and EVOMS fitted my boot's been getting lots more soot deposits, and the tailpipes on my new BCS exhaust turn black very quickly... Its Revo Stage 2... B8T5F7

Pic...

What do you reckon? Is this just normal?

Running too rich can be just as bad as running too lean. Clean them up and add a good metal sealant to make cleaning easy.

That's what i'm worried about, concerned the valve seat will get clogged... The have been polished every weekend with AG metal polish...

Is this excessive?

my exhaust gets sooted up very quickly aswell (mines only done it since having the bcs fitted but I have the hard edged tail pipes so no lip inside to stop it)

Mines black so I cant comment on the soot spots up the tailgate

Its quite common for the tfsi's to run a little richer than normal, better rich than lean on these engines :happy2:

Not sure... They've done about 20k though and die at next service...

Uses hardly any oil... So nothing like that Steve, just running rich... I'm sure it's just normal... The tail pipes sit flusher with bodywork so maybe that's why...

Dom,
Have you got Vagcom - if so log lambda and also look at your LTFT (long term fuel trim)

lambda is block 031
Fuel trim is block 032 (you can look at the two values without starting the car).
