R-Tech have offered to do a linear throttle map on my car tomorrow.
however i quite like lightly touching the throttle and having it pull on the motorway.
I presume with a linear throttle map you have to push the throttle more so it will give the impression the car has less power?
opinions?

Thats what I found, hated it

Love your sig Dom

Also interested in reading people's opinions as I'm looking at the R tech map.

Im the only person on here that can state that as a fact :sad1:

I personally liked the linear throttle map. But since having the revo update i have lost it because the have not made a stage 1 linear yet.
Both have there ups and downs... :happy2:
NON linear makes the car 'feel' quicker
Linear you have to work the throttle more.

I can only comment on our own linear throttle map and the Revo variant. I dislike it them.

I get the feeling you dont like linear throttle dave? :P
I must admit that the non linear revo map does make it feel a bit beefier. :driver:

cool. thats all i needed to hear really. I'll avoid that and stick with the current set up I think.

On stage 1 its not really needed, but when you go stage 2+ or higher its worth it. It allows more control of the power through corners and in the wet.
-
I'm gonna give it a try now and see how it feels.
I'm not convinced I'll like it but will report back.

A linear throttle map is just like driving an old throttle cabled car. My FRS had a cable to the throttle body ( as do older cars) and that does not dull the driving experience. I would love a linear throttle map (next trip top Shark) as it means the input is more precise. In the wet I just spin the wheels when applying the power, as it either puts too much power down or not enough. Shark keep their throttle map very similar to the OE one and I think the OE throttle map should be on a 1:1 ratio. Its just that most drivers are lazy and dont want to move their foot more than a few cm's to drive, thats why VW dont have a 1:1 ratio. You can still get the initial surge of power with a linear map but you have to move your foot a few more cm's and its just the same.

On older cars you used to be able to get things called Sprint boosters which essentially changed the throttle map so that small throttle inputs from thed driver equated to larger throttle output. It didnt make it faster, just made it feel faster!!
The stock throttle map on my car is terrible for this. Around Mallory at 3/4 throttle on Gerrards corner(in the wet) the slightest movement was bringing on full throttle. Really off putting and makes it difficult to modulate the throttle.
The linear throttle map means it is so much easier to modulate and control the throttle, especially in the wet, when cornering hard. I have much less wheels spin as a result.
Plus it doesnt make it slower, you just have to use more of the peddle.

MPG gains from linear 1:1 throttle maps?? The 1.8T boys are seeing 34-38mpg from linear maps, and the 2.5T ST owners are reporting 50-55mile better per tank.
For control the linear map wins hands down, but the Placebo effect stock pedal map makes people smile...... and under steer,

Unfortunately we didnt get time for this in the end so can't really comment now... perhaps next time :)
MASSIVE thanks and respect again though to Nick for his time and skill.

That for me sums it up better than any other reply ive seen

So linear map is more a drivers map
might get one, my edition 30 is my first fly by wire throttle and it's abit foreign to me still the way it reacts to your foot

It more intuitive.... if you want half throttle, press the pedal down half way. :happy2:

Sounds better to me rich! Better than tickling the throttle coming out of a corner and getting :driver:
-
Yup

I like the linear throttle i have just had and think (please note) think that it gives me more control on the car, you can actually balance the pick up on the throttle really well.

Exactly why I like the Linear map on my Stage 2 Ed30, you can come out of corners progressively (half throttle) and when traction allows floor it, its not "All or nothing".
