Title: Daily Driver Engine Mounts
Post by: daz_pd on July 25, 2012, 08:22:53 pm
Hey All,
I have an Octavia VRS which is currently stage 2, I have a torque arm insert fitted which helped a bit, but I cant help but notice that the engine in this car rocks about a fair bit (especially when giving it the beans), has anyone any experience of a fairly subtle (or even OEM, eg S3 Mounts?) upgrade that will rectify this, without ruining my car as a daily driver, as my local roads are pretty rough!
for reference, I find the Neuspeed Insert acceptable except in reverse where it gives noticable vibrations, but I can live with it due to usually going forward!

I had all 3 VF Mounts in my Blue vRS and have got some more (VF Engine & Gearbox mount and REVO Pendulum mount which is a rebranded VF) for the Assassin. Yet to fit but they are fine even at 70mph. Make the car sound like 6pot turbo from in the Cabin.

thanks guys! would I be correct in saying that the Top 2 would be OK for my needs? It seems like the bottom mount is a lot of work and surely my insert helps with that anyway?

personally id do all 3, the bottom one yes took 25mins longer but worth it for a complete solution.

I thought the 2 top ones took the longest. The pendulum mount was the easiest of all of them iirc.

I found getting the old mount out very difficult, the others were 3 screws!

top 2 THS and VWR lower as daily driver = awesome
as ed says you wont notice after a while  :happy2: great noise on WOT even though i only have a remap!

p.s. carls lower mount INSERT is much easier to have fitted than the full replacement mount
you already have the insert, so that part wont make much difference imho

check out my review thread in the product section too  :pomppomp:

What else are you going to replace on the pendulum mount? The only other bit is the torque insert which is included with the mount.

I think john is referring to the solid type of subframe insert.

Yeah that REVO one is a piece of piss to install. The bush is basically the same as the PowerFlex or superpro torque arm insert. The arm has a less compliant bush in it too, but the rest of the arm and bracket is a pointless upgrade looks very snazzy.  :happy2:

i've got the Revo set up (revised bushes from bsh days) on the Ed35 and really surprised how good they feel on the car (castings are really nice), not quite as intrusive as the VWR ones but you know they are there

i do think which ever route you go doing all three at same time is better as after time the oem tops take a hammering

I have all 3 ths mounts fitted and I can say it is actually better with the ths lower mount installed than with the oe mount and an insert. The lower mount cost me £60 to have installed but I fitted the top mounts myself. All in all they work in harmony together and there is very little vibration coming through to the cabin.
