Hi all after a mk5 GTi, mk5 R32 then 6 weeks to find the right mk6 GTi it was unfortunately written off. :sad1:
I have just agreed settlement and need a replacement and have the following options:
1). Another Mk6 prob carbon grey as it was lovely. This would probably be 59 plate approx with around 20k or less on
2). Audi S3 facelift either 3dr or sportback around 58 plate (one has 20k on and the other 35k)
3). LCR 60 plate with 12k (probably least favourite at the minute but dont know why.)
Would prefer 5 door for when family arrives but not mandatory. The mk6 was proving very cheap to run compared to the R and always at least 10 mpg above it no matter what driving conditions. Servicing was reasonable with no belts to change and fixed price servicing.
The S3 is really tempting but need to find out Cambelt & pump interval and costs as it appears different to ED30 although same engine and also haldex interval and cost.
HELP!

Easy. You sound so happy with the MK6 GTi, only had it a short while, why would you get anything else?
I tested an S3, felt a bit wooly TBH.

I think you might be right! Although the only thing everyone says to me is "get somethig different" or "don't get another golf" Always had VAG cars but dont like the skoda octavia even though I loved my mk1. The LCR seems cheap in interior quality but offers bags of kit for the money. Cant quite decide.

I think you will miss the Golf if you get anything different. I have driven loads of different motors (used to work for JCT600) and its always the Golf that grabs my attention.
It simply does everything.
Its a calm classy family vehicle when it needs to be and when you fancy a spirited drive over the country lanes, its not too bad at that either :driver:
A Golf is at the top of my list, just can't afford to do it whilst saving for a deposit on my first house :sad1:

Tough choice between the Mk6 and the S3 for me. The LCR looks nice but the interior is such a let down for me.
The Mk6 has better infotainment stuff than the S3, but it's hard to ignore the power plant in the S3 and the 4WD practicality of it.
Test drive them both extensively back to back and make a decision.

S3 everyday of the week, but then I'm biased :happy2:
The Haldex full service should be done every 3 years, and a main dealer will charge around £170
You should have the Haldex oil change around every 20K, but that is quite cheap.

Wooly :signLOL:
Maybe if you haven't lowered her and fitted ARB's

mk5 gti or mk6 gti for me! awd just doesn't work for me as in spite of plenty of grip you lose a bit of fun and challenge as steering lacks precision and it's very easy to drive...
if you chase figures acceleration will be better from standstill as AWD
