Hello all,
First post here, been on another forum for a while and just wanted some advise. I have a Golf GT TDI 140 58 plate and it's got the standard radio, RCD300 I believe? Installed.
I want to upgrade this unit to something that has Sat Nav, Syncs with my Phone for calls etc and allows me to play music via ipod/iphone. Other things are a bonus.
So I think i've narrowed it down to these few:
http://www.pioneer.eu/uk/products/archive/AVIC-F9110BT/index.html
Or
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261073548706?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
Or
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pioneer-AVIC-F9210BT-VW-Skoda-Seat-sat-nav-Bluetooth-SD-DVD-navigation-RNS-510-/271014159151?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item3f19b3e32f
The prices seem to vary greatly! If anyone has any other opinions then please go ahead and suggest them! I'm looking to buy one today! I can get the F9110BT for £300, are the others really worth £200 more than this one?
Cheers, :driver:

Go for RNS510 mate. Its not cheap maybe but its worth it. But its ur decision.

Cheers mate, yeah looking at it the screen is just so much bigger on the RNS models. Worth it to go for the F-H versions?

Just out of curiosity and for/against perspective. What are the reasons why you guys say to go for the RNS over the others?
-
Another vote for the RNS 510.
Seamless OEM integration for one. Has a hard drive to store all your music on, and you can use the Bluetooth from the unit screen. You can also add reverse camera at a later stage and or OPS which shows up on the screen. The Nav itself is right up there. Been using it for months now and it's never gone astray. The traffic warnings are also a real help.

Cheers for the advice mate. I was under the impression that to use Bluetooth i'll be needing to buy a bluetooth module and microphone for an extra £100, or am I wrong? Also what's the best way to get these things set up with an Aux in for the iPhone? Can it be linked with a cable or am I going to need one of these:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=271021679907
Cheers guys,
Oh and lastly is £550 for a used version H good?
-
Correct, you will need to buy the BT module and mic, you can get them in a set for a decent price. Works really well and very clear. You don't even know it's there.
As for the Iphone, yes you can connect it using the item in the link you provided. I don't bother as once you have the BT module, you can stream music from your phone via BT. I also loaded up almost all my music onto the HDD, so no need for the MDI.
Not sure of prices nowadays, but I paid around £600 for my F about 5 or 6 months ago.

Cheers mate, great help. Now I just need to justify spending 3/4 of a grand on my stereo. :drinking:
Will these 2 pieces of kit do the bluetooth job?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-SKODA-ORIGINAL-BLUETOOTH-VOICE-CONTROL-MICROPHONE-MIC-GOLF-PASSAT-POLO-EOS-/271014785956?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item3f19bd73a4

So that's £550 for the RNS510, £120 for the iPod connectivity and £100 for the Bluetooth kit :scared:
-
You would still need the wiring harness for the BT kit.
You would be best off buying a complete set like this which comes with everything you need. All you would need then is coding of the RNS and the BT unit.

I have the older version of this kit, ending in D. This is the same, but has the newer firmware.
-
I've had RNS's in my last 4 cars. Well worth it and they just keep evolving. :happy2:
-
Zenec kits are meant to be a good alternative

You will need also that wiring:

49 Euros! I'm gonna need to take a loan out at this rate!
Thanks for the help though guys, I hope this thing lives up to it's value! :signLOL:
I was wanting to get a rear view camera set up with it at some point but that will definitely be another time and another pay day now!
I thought i'd be clever and time this with my service, which happens to be the very fun 4 year service so keep your eyes peeled on the For Sale section of the forum as my house will be up there to pay for my Sat Navigation.
-
well i was going to get the rns but time i added up the the blue tooth etc and the splinters to run my amps, then i went for this
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fcc20%2Fmaxitrol%2FIMG_0814.jpg&hash=d8281b41fc32a11fa074556c3e29abbefb69cc80)
ine-s990r.The down side was the price £950 fitted

I'm sure the sound quality is good though with it being an Alpine! 29.5 degrees for the passenger temperature? They must be melting! :D

I have a 5K0 kit in the for sale section
another thing to consider when buying an RNS is that when you sell the car it will still fetch a good price (early A versions still sell around the £300 mark)
-
Is it worth paying the extra £200 for the F-H versions over the C?
-
The C has a smaller hard disk than the others and is slightly slower in operation however if you think you might want to install later firmware versions if they release any new features then go for a H
I'm happy with my C but I'm aware that I may not get any new features that they decide to add in the future
-
I have an RNS 510 C, MDI and 7P6 BT kit and I can't fault it. I was going to go with the Kenwood for £999 fitted by the dealers but I didn't want wires or a USB stick coming out the head unit as I like things hidden and once I priced it all up and fitting by Eddie NL it was cheaper aswell. Well worth it :happy2:
Also I believe the 5K0 kits Eddie is selling are the newer version of the 7P6 iirc and its great, especially if you don't have a highline dash as everything is done through the HU
-
I've got a Pioneer ACIV-F920BT in my ED30(came with the car).Have to say great piece of kit, plays dvd's has built in hands free & loads of other features.
-
As mentioned previously, it's worth considering the Zenec 2010.

Cheers for the advice. Yeah they look like great units but can't find used ones being sold anywhere and the cost of a new is around £800, I can get a RNS510 H, Bluetooth module and iPod connectivity for the same price.
-
Ebay.de - I got a used one for half that.
There is a new 2011D model out too

Cheers Eddie, I'll be interested in the Bluetooth kit if I get this RNS for the right price. I'll be in touch over the next few days if I do :) Do I need the Multi-function steering wheel to get the most use out of the RNS unit? If so I'm gonna have to grab one off EbY for another £100, haha.
-

Hi
No You don't need MFSW to control RNS. Lets say - MFSW is helpful but not essential.

That's a good price to be fair and with a years warranty too. £440 for an H sounds way too cheap. Sounds like you got a real bargain Nadlad.

-
Took the plunge and went for it, thank you guys for all the advice so far! Version H on it's way

Yeah thought it was a good deal because of the free P&P usually see them at £600 with postage for the H.

If you can live with the badge, look at a skoda columbus. I just got one off ebay for 340 quid, 2011 model, led screen etc.

I don't think I can live with the Skoda badge, it just makes me feel wrong. But good price! What version is that? Don't tell me that after i've bought one already!
