Hi all,
OK am about to purchase a RCD510 to replace my RCD500...
No I know about the aerial adapter i require, and have the installation guides etc, but was concerned about the security code... does this need to be entered by VCDS? (something i don't have)
ANything else i should be aware of?
Cheers,
Dom

Hi
The scurity code (PIN code) is 4 digit number and the seller should give u that when u buy it. It has nothing to do with VCDS. When u fitting the radio in ur car it will ask u for that code. If u dont have the correct code it wont start.

Thank you... It will come with the code, but wanted to know how you enter it... ALso how do I get the code from my RCD500 unit which I intend to sell on?
Cheers again,

When u firs time switch on ur radio it will ask for a code. To get the code for ur ori radio u can ask VW dealer to get it. But it must be still fitted in ur car
-
Is the dealer the peeps able to get my old units code? Or anyone with vcds?
I have a security card in the owners manual but no details grrr.
Thanks for your help.

I just took serial number to dealer and they did give me code for rcd 300 which was fitted from factory to my car.
After you fitted rcd 510 it will ask you code before start up, you need input code once after that car will remember code and next time you remove rcd 510 you don't have input code again.
Sent from my HTC One

So have I got to remove it to get the serial number?
-
No. Serial number u can get from VCDS but i think u will need ur reg too.

Sorry to hijack the thread but thought it would be better than starting a new one...
If i get my hands on an RCD510 but don't have the code how easy is it to get the code? One going on ebay cheap and was hoping it wouldn't be too difficult to get a code?

As long as It's genuine and not reported stolen, VW should have no issue's providing you the code for the RCD510.
Also, it's not crucial that you get an aerial adaptor. You can merely remove the plug off of your current aerial adapator and plug them onto the new RCD510.

I've just searched for this topic. I've bought a RCD510 got it all fitted swapped over the aerial plugs, sat it all in. Switched it on and up comes "welcome to vw". Next pops up enter your code. Eh I don't have the code, I bought it off ebay the advert clearly stated that it came with code. I've checked for a sticker and in all the packaging but no code anywhere. Grrrr!!!!!
I've mailed the seller to get the 4 digit code, I'll need to wait and see what response I get now. Nothing's ever easy!!!

if you cant get the code from the seller, let me know. I can point you in the direction to someone who can get them.

I took my stereo to vw and they done it for free

I'm looking to sell the RCD510 that came with my MK6 as standard. Is there an easier way to get the code rather than contacting the dealer?

I'm afraid not. Unless you sell the radio with no code, but provide the buyer with your Vin and radio's serial number (on the unit).

slightly related question. I bought an RCD510 to replace my RCD300 and I have the code ok, but if I remove it later and put the 300 back in will it ask for that code again? as I don't have it, just the one for the 510.
cheers.

wow I have no patience. yes it works fine. put 510 in, entered code. removed 510 fitted 300. worked fine, didn't ask for code.
