Hi Guys,
What are your views on disabling ESP on manual/dsg? My view would be to keep ESP on public road always. However on track do you find ESP interfering too much??

On the road ESP on, on the track ESP off for me :happy2:
-
thanks Steve, you drive manual/dsg box?
Do you know if once ESP disabled it's completely disabled or it will kick in much later on? It's diffrent on different cars

I find ESP cuts in far to early on the road sometime, but I leave it on for safety.

Currently have a manual track car, but two previous that I took on track where DSG'ed.
The ESP is never 100% off so it still cuts in to a point but I find it much better without on track.

Except for if its wet then id just leave it on.

.... x 2 :happy2: - DSG driven in M-mode except when within urban, then D-mode.

First thing I do when I get in the vRS after starting it is to turn off the ESP. Cant enjoy the car with it on.

....I don't think you would do the same if you lived in my neck of the woods with plenty of fast country B-roads but with slippy substances randomly deposited on the surfaces. Bedford, MK, etc is a different road environment.
-
ESP always turned off...unless it is wet.
Even when the ESP is off it still cuts in too soon for my liking :fighting2:

You would be surprised how many great B roads we have round here. Bedford is far different to the straights and round abouts of MK. Google B660 road.
Never had any issues driving hard and fast with cars that dont have any esp or abs etc.
-
Absolutly Alex... theres a great road that goes off the M1 at about J11... goes up the east side of the M1 and then crosses back under and up to woburn.... EPIC fun :driver:

ESP off in the wet for sure on track! Not on road but on track the intervening is a joke, can be controlled much more turned off but then I would say that as I also have a diff. :happy2:

.
If you were involved in a serious accident/incident and it was found that your ESP equipped car had it switched off, would this........ ?:
a) affect your insurance claim?
b) go against you in a court case? Thinking along the lines of being accused of driving a car in an unsafe condition.
All road safety experts/authorities strongly advise using ESP systems if equipped. Although sometimes a fun spoiler, ESP/ABS etc has definitely saved me on more than one occasion.
Just playing Devil's Advocate in asking these questions.
-
IM not sure that they would be able to tell if the ESP had been turned off Robin. As once the cars engine has been turned off and back on, the ESP would turn back on again.
-
I don't think in any insurance policy you need to have ESP on... The list would be pretty long - ESP, ASR, ESR etc and many more

Greenlight dont insure cars that lack ABS, but esp been off, im not sure, it would depend on the circumstances of the crash surely.
If you lost control and had esp off then maybe but as Rich says once the car has been turned off the esp turns back on.
Would be very difficult to prove that one me thinks, unless you disabled it in vagcom.
-
My advice would always be leave the ESP on, but I never listen to myself!

^^^^
Cheers, guys - Not a particularly intelligent question on my part but was curious. Although I insure with Greenlight I didn't know about their ABS policy.
Although it is a nuisance when you feel ESP tug you, I normally keep my foot planted and drive 'through' it.
