There are a lot of better products then megs (unless its their detailing range)
These are just cheaper products for the masses.
If you are serious on removing scratches you will need a PC (machine polisher)
and menzerna

If the swirls are quite light, you could try using Dodo Juice Lime Prime, which is a pre-wax cleanser that contains micro-abrasives so has slight "cut" properties, which will help to remove the swirls. You can apply this by hand or machine, whichever you prefer, and it will leave the paintwork in perfect condition for carnauba wax to be applied over the top, as the pre-wax cleanser is designed to enable the wax to bond with the paint.
As Jules said... if you want to achieve as close to 100% correction as possible, you'd more than likely need to look at a machine correction stage
Hope this helps

I've used Menzerna final finish with a DA polisher and got some fantastic results.
Will have another bash tomorrow. Need to use a little IP for some of the newer swirls.

Yes, I've used probably 20 different types over the last 5 yrs of mkV ownership, but the the Z 5 was the one that stuck in my mind as it was one of the the first polishes I used on the ED30. I still rate both Megs and Autoglym highly, but haven't tried much of the DODO juice products yet (But they do smell lovely )

We do tuition days... a lot of our customers want to be able to keep their car in tip-top condition themselves but don't know where to start, so we spend a day Detailing the car to provide a solid foundation to work from, and we spend the day going through techniques and tips and polish/pad combinations.
Failing that - we'd be happy to spend some time on the phone with you talking things through
