Hey everyone, Just thought i would upload a few photos of my new MK5 GTTDI. I eventually sold my MK4 and thought about nothing else apart from a MK5, although deciding between petrol and diesel took me forever  Anyway here are a few photos before i do anything.

Hey Welcome along
Nice motor chum, you have started to think about mods already :driver:
:happy2:
-
Thanks  Yeah, i started thinking about them as soon as i left my deposit lol
-
Have you thought about what type of wheels to go for? The R32 spoke wheels would look well on you car,
i'm not to sure of the excat name, they must have about 20 thin spokes
Here's a pic i took of google

-
Well what ever you do, i'm sure they will be a great choice...
Good luck with the forum :happy2: theres always sets of the GTI one come up in the for sale section
-
Thank you!
-
Im looking to swap my gti grilles for gt ones if you want to swap?

Passat R36 Alloys on the Mk5 Golf (GT TDi). Perfect fit but like rocking horse poo to find a set. :rolleye:

Yes mate, i only have ever seen a couple on sets in the two year i had my MK4... I was lucky to have them on the car when i bought it, I might tell my bro i want them back ;-)... They need a refurb tho, i blame the gf not me :signLOL:
-
looks tidy :happy2:
-
Looks like a good find there mate.
-
Looks good. Was a toss up between silver and black when i got mine but went for silver!
-
Thanks guys  ... Yeah it was either this or a blue GT170.. Decided on this as the body work was in alot better condition and fewer miles.

This is my first black car, alot of people have said they are a nightmare to keep clean, My MK4 was silver and wasnt that bad.
-
So woke up this morning a thought to clean my car and and add a few pics of what i have done in the first week since picking up my car :driver:
First thing i done was buy some Mtec bulbs after a massive debate about HIDS on a topic i started lol.. They do look better than the original bulbs but think i will have to save for some xenons. I also ordered some side light and number plate bulbs.

After i ordered these from gulfstream

Very happy with these, such a little mod makes :h a hole lot of difference. I dont know why the seat inserts didnt come standard.
De badge had to be done :happy2:

Although it did leave a sort of shadow from where the letters were.

So i decided to wash, clay bar, polish and wax. i thought this would help remove it and it did . ( First time using a clay bar and wax lol. I used to just pay the turks £6 to clean my MK4 haha ).

Pretty happy with the result for my first time. Took ages tho :signLOL:
Nexts plans were to buy some monzas, But im thinking the winter wheels will be on in a couple of month so i might as well wait until next year now. So i think the next thing is going to be back GTI bottom bumper and GTI exhaust ( If i can find one that is) Every thing seems to be down south way and people dont want to post "/.. Thinking of remap to but im abit worried if im going to get problems if i do.
Thanks Guys

Looks awesome mate.
If I were you I'd lower your GT before getting the Monza's.
The Classics looks surprisingly amazing on a lowered golf :happy2:
Using the clay bar works wonders doesn't it? Please stay away from the hand car wash centres in future :scared:

Thanks mate :happy2: Yeah i think i will stay away from them now, it was just a lot easier and cheaper paying £6 lol, i was thinking of lowering in but my friend had a mk4 lowered on coils and it was so uncomfortable so i havnt gave it much thought. I know they do look 1000x better lower.
Yeah the clay bar was excellent, how often are you supposed to clay ?
-
Looks a million times better now its been clayed. I do mine whenever its looking / feeling grubby. Think iv only done mine about 4-5 times in a year or so. You dont need to lower it on coilovers, got springs on mine at the moment!
-
Like Joe said....just get some quality lowering springs, like H&R's or Eibachs :notworthy:
They are progressively wound springs and they stiffen up when cornering etc
-
Hey mate, how come you went for the better m tech bulbs rather than HID's, and or why do you want to go for xenons rather than HID's

It prob wont last long until its dirty again haha, Ah i didnt think of springs.. Whats the best mm to drop it ? do they come in a range of sizes ? 30,40 e.g.... Whats the springs like joe ? j
-
The springs are great. Iv got H&R ones with a healthy drop, not 100% sure of the actual drop. I took some pics, have a look on my build thread and they should be on there somewhere

Hi
I asked people on here the question... I gathered people dont like HID's, ( they blind people, could fail mot with the beam pattern e.g) Someone recommended the MTECHs and they were only £11 so i thought i would give them a try... They do look loads better but i would like Xenons one day.

Ill check it out mate :happy2:

If ur not into super lows then id definatly go with springs.
Ive been a coilover guy forever but having eibachs on my GTi has really changed my mind

what is the better make ? H&R's or Eibachs.
-
I'd say H&R's everytime!!!!!
Probably because I haven't tried the Eibachs :ashamed:
H&R's are a bit more expensive though.
.....there are LOTS of previous threads on this subject!
-
H&Rs get the vote from me too! How much were the seat inserts and foot rest?
-
You won't go far wrong with either eibach or h&r.
H&r drop ever so slightly lower however are marginally harsher.
Eibach (sport lines) are very very similar but ever so slightly higher but slightly more comfortable and are about £50 cheaper.
As mentioned earlier they are both bloody brilliant. Just watch out for the Pro Sport eibachs. They lower the car a gnat's bollock and are pointless IMO. :happy2:
-
Thanks for the help guys... And it was £25 i think for the inserts and footrest mate
-
Nice car mate!
Currently trying to decide between petrol and diesel myself.
What swayed it for you?
-
Thanks, Just trying to save for a house deposit mate :signLOL: Do you travel far for work ?
-
My daily commute is about 20 miles round trip a day, but do some long drive at weekend to see mates all over the country (I don't drink so am always designated driver but don't mind).
Heart says gti and be more choosy over trip locations, but head says diesel and travel even more! Arrgghh haha!
-
If i could afford it i would of got a GTI lol... But i cant say a bad word about mine now, its awesome.. Dirty diesel :driver:
-
Cheers for the feedback, I think I'm leaning towards the diesel
-
Your next decision is between 140 and 170 :signLOL:
-
Yeah, true, Ive read a fair bit about the dpf issues on the 170, and due to short regular trips may go for the 140 and remap.
Sorry to hijack your thread, cheers

Can't comment on H&R's but I've had a few Eibach Pro Kits. They firm up the suspension nicely and (actually) do lower the car just a subtle amount. Here's mine on Pro Springs and 18" Wheelz

Thanks, not that much louder to be honest. I thought it was going to sound like a tractor but its fine, Sounds awesome when turbo comes in tho, love it lol. Like an owl or something lol..
I was worried a little tho, i obv discontected the battery when welding. When everything was done and i started it up then steering whell light and esp light were on
They did go off after driving about 50 feet, so i was happy lol.. Just dont understand whey those lights came on
