Hi all,
I'm Kaz, 25 from Kent. Quite the car enthusiast!
Looking into buying a MK5 Golf GTI (preferably an Edition 30).
Just having a look around the site and to research into the Golf a bit more. Tips etc would be much appreciated :)

welcome along kaz!
Enjoy the hunt..Ed30 is a superb choice.. Though I'm abit bias
-
Thank you :)
I have seen them around my area a lot recently, really bored of my current car and I've always liked the look of the Golfs. So I think it's definitely the next car for me :)
-
And pref on colour/spec/gearbox etc?
-
Colour wise..black or red would be the preferred choice! Not too fussed if it's a 3 door or 5 door either. Manual gearbox is essential but DSG not so much, although would be nice!
I don't know an awful lot about them, other than the fact it's near on the same engine as my current car.
Currently have a 2.0 TFSI Seat Leon Sport with BTCC Kit at present.

Welcome onboard Kaz. :drinking:
Post some pics of your Leon!!
Any Mk5 GTI will be a great buy but a special edition such as an Edition 30 or a Pirelli is just a wee bit more, OEM+ IMHO. Plenty of cars for sale on the forum, always worth a look. Here you go....

May I suggest Tornado Red (tiss the fastest colour after all) and when polished/waxed it really does look stunning.
Happy car hunting!

Very nice Leon. Looks good in black! :happy2:
Why not just modify that puppy (just a touch ). They are some lovely Leon's on here as well.

To be honest I've only got a milltek cat back non-res on there. All money has been spent fixing her up engine wise and bodywork too. She's standard other than that!

Lovely Leon
Welcome aboard. I know we're all biased on here but you really can't go wrong with a golf they're brilliant!
Let us all know how the car hunt goes.
-
Thanks!
Will be popping down to my local VW dealer at the weekend to have a look at what they have on site.
Any recommendations from people? Any sort of issues to look out for on these cars? I

ED30 is definitely a perfect choice. The extra 30bhp really makes a difference and IMO should have been the standard on GTI's (drove a friends and although I'm happy with my GTI i was still a bit jealous ha!).
I was told when looking for mine to check on the tread wear on the tyres, as inside of the tyre edge can indicate a suspension issue?
Also Monza II alloys are notorious for getting white worm on the alloys, but then again if you're definitely getting an ED30 then this won't be an issue.
I'm sure more knowledgable folk will be along soon to give you some more detailed information.
Good luck

Here is a guide on the Edition 30:-

I don't think the ED30 has any issues but every individual car is different, just not sure there's anything generic. :happy2:
The engine with its K04 Turbo on board is more than capable to cope with most things you might want to do with it, for example a stage 1 map without any other modification, expect to see a 15-20 % increase in bhp (expect 275+). If you go for a manual car (and get it mapped) then an uprated clutch would be advisable (DSG gearboxes can quite happily handle the extra torque once they have been mapped).
An example of what's can be done to and with the K04 Turbo'd car from a well known garage in the south, JKM Perforance:-

Thank you :).
I would assume the standard clutch will be fine for a stage one? Or am I mistaken?
If I'd want to go stage 2 (which is a definite) then i would assume an uprated clutch would be advisable as well as certain other internals to go with it? Fuel pump etc?
-
^^^^ with a manual gearbox you "may" be ok with a standard clutch with stage 1 but if you plan on going 2 or 2+ then you may as well preempt any problems and fit an uprated clutch. loads of threads on here on which to go for. Now and again there are "Group Buys" on the forum which are great for getting the bits you need at a reduced price.
Also loads of threads on Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 2+ and things required and or recommended for each level such as a High Pressure Fuel Pump, Cold Air Intake, Turbo back exhaust system And so on.
