Hi everyone,
I bought a RCD310 and a updated Canbus of eBay, the seller did state that it was for the 310 and 510. As I'm using the 310 I thought I would buy it. So after 2 and a bit hours and ripping my hands apart from behind the pedals I got it all sorted and fitted my RCD310.
Now when I put the car ignition on I now get an air bag fault and the orange light of death.
I did not reprogame the canbus as I have no idea how to do this or how it's done. So here I am to ask the pro's for help.

When you fitted the radio did you disconnect the battery?
If not did you unplug the airbag warning light on the dash part which has the two vents on it?
This could have thrown the fault up and it will need clearing with VCDS.
Not sure if you actually need an updated CANBUS for a RCD310, stand to be corrected!

Is the orange light for the steering wheel? You will get this if you disconnected the battery.
To fix start the car, full lock to left then full lock to right, center the steering so that the wheels are pointing straight and drive forward. The light should go out.

I had about 4 different lights come on when I changed my radio, just get in the car and drive it, this should clear the lights :happy2:

Thanks for the replys,
I did not unplug that battery but I did unplug the air bag warning light on the dash by the vents. Also it's not the orange steering wheel logo it's the air bag logo.
You say it can be fixed using VCD's. Can I do this myself or do VW have to do it ?
Sorry I don't know much about VCD's

You really should have read your canbus info using vcds before switching to the new one.
The steering wheel light can go off by going for a test drive.
Where are you based ? You dont need to go vw. Just someone local with vcds.

Might have a few more problems, as said you should have had your original Canbus read before replacing with one off the bay.
You might want to speak to Eddie on here he sells and programmes canbus' at very reasonable prices.

Yeah i now know I have messed up big but I still have my old canbus do could put it back in but then I will have to remove the RCD310 unless I don't have to which would be very good.
I'm based in Walton On Thames so if the is anyone local who could help then that would be great. Still I may give Eddie a PM to see what he could do.

Just thought I would put this out there, would my old canbus cause power drain on the RCD310 ?
The canbus is 1K0 907 530e with 27s in the circle.
The newer one is 1K0 907 530f with 28s in the circle. This is now fitted.

either of those will suffer from batter drain
I always recommend disconnecting the battery when changing the gateway if you don't have access to vag-com

Also you would need a version k or newer canbus

Hmm,
Balls, as the seller said it has been used for the RCD310 I will see if there is battery drain, I won't be using the car for the next 6 days anyway. Otherwise I will be contacting Eddie.
Guys and girls, thanks for your help in again another canbus issue.

I might get shot down in flames, but as for clearing faults the best thing i have bought for my VW is the 'Autel Vag 405' i know its not vagcom but only cost me £45 new from ebay and has paid for its self 3 fold. Easy to use and sit in the boot (where the first aid kit should be).
I work offshore as a Spark and my mechanic (was a car mechanic for 20 years) swears by it, clears all faults ABS,SRS on VAG group cars and engine lights on everything other make.
