Title: Tips for running in a new turbo?
Post by: Moz on August 02, 2012, 05:25:13 pm
So I've had a new turbo tilted and getting the car back tonight.

Presume I try and avoid hard acceleration and short trips an maybe oil change after few hundred miles?

There's a turbo expert on here called Sammy. He's been a bit quiet lately tho.

His advice was to rag it until blue smoke comes out the back. The blue smoke means it's working. The more smoke the better*

(*this is a sarcastic response)

Keep the revs down for 200 miles to allow the bearings to bed down.
You shouldn't need to change your oil after a few hundred miles as it should have been a fresh fill with the new turbo assuming you're using a 504 spec oil.
