Hi guys,
my 2007 GTI Edition 30 just had a major service at 29k. VW garage say I should changed the timing belt (or chain) as it's past the 4 year period, not the 40k mark though. I'm cool with that but the guy made me worry it might break soon if I continue driving it. I'm due to do a 500 mile round trip this weekend and am now worried in case it fails. Is this just BS from VW to get the car in asap or could I survive running it another 1,000 miles or so?
Appreciate your thoughts guys.

the schedule says that the cam belt should be changed every 4 years/60K miles. the reality is that you'll probably be ok, but Sod's Law states that if you've got a long trip, it'll go on your way down there
i'd get it changed mate.

Thanks for the response, much appreciated.

You'r call but i had my ED30 cambelt changed at 23,000 miles as it was 4 years old. On inspection the belt/tensioner looked just like the brand new one that was fitted, there were no cracks or perished rubber so you might be ok for you'r trip?.
