My steering wheel vibrates when going over 80mph(private road)
Can Anyone point to the right direction to what might the problem be??
-
2 possible reasons for this could be that your wheels need balancing or wheel bearing

Just had new tires fitted to the car so I assume that the balancing be ok..if it was wheel bearing would it be noisy??
-
Wheel bearings would make a humming noise.
Have you checked the orientation of the tyre is correct. Normally an arrow Indicating forwards.
Rim might not be straight.
Air pressure too low in tyres.
Does it vibrate more when braking?
-
If this has started since the change of tyres it could be balancing !
Sometimes it could be a warped brake disc altho that is rare, however that would be more apprant with braking.
-
Did the vibrating start since new tyres were fitted? 9 times out of 10 when we get cars with these symptoms it's just not been balanced properly.

It doesn't vibrate when braking...& yes it started vibrating after I changed tires

Get them to rebalance. Sounds like you need to find a new tyre fitter ;-)
-
Did some body shout meRich :signLOL:get them to check the balance again

Agree!
For the sake of £20 I would get somewhere else to rebalance them and get a receipt to take to the place that fitted the tyres

Its getting me pi55ed off now cause I'm busy all day Monday & I've booked in for another custom remap at r-rech on Tuesday..if I don't get it sorted do you think it be ok on the dyno at r-tech??
-
It will be ok on the dyno

It will be ok on the dyno
I'm glad that you said that as I was well paranoid with this issue..

It will be ok on the dyno
Anybody else know for certain that it be ok on the dyno at r-tech??

Not sure nick will be happy sitting 3ft away from a vibrating wheel while the car is doing 110mph :scared:
Best pop into a reputable tyre place and get them rebalanced. Should be around £20

How bad is the vibration?
Is it low level, or is it fierce and actually shakes the hell out your arms as the latter will be dangerous on the dyno.
That said even low level vibration is going to affect your dyno run, spend a few £s and get it sorted.
I have no doubt that if the tyre place is reputable they will do it for free, it could be something as simple as the weight coming off as you drove away.

Spending money to sort it out ain't a problem but I've just don't have the time on monday

Well IMO you really need to explain the whole vibration thing to the dyno guys and let them decide if its safe or not.

found out in the end that one of the front wheels have a slight buckle so changed it round to the rear but vibrating steering wheel has not gone, just a little less
