I love both the old 246 Dino and the 250 GT. Awesome styling.
I grew up the testerossa and the F40 - esp the latter which for me was the de facto ferrari.
But that F12 is my mdoern fave now!

On the subject of black Ferrari's, a friend used to have a black Boxer but it was a bit uninspiring and he didn't keep it for long.
Another in the same group of very wealthy folks I sometimes used to hang out with in Chelsea back in the day is a Ferrari nut and had to go to Italy and meet the big man himself before he was allowed to buy his F40. I've been in a lot of Ferrari's due to my friendship with him but have now lost touch. I last saw him in 1999 at my son's funeral - I ought to track him down. I bet he is still running Ferrari's. He had a Daytona as well (and a Mercedes Brabus for town use).
Ferrari's tend to look best in either red or silver, imo of course.

Completely agree with silver - it's much more subtle but IMO looks awesome on some Ferraris.

All the old ferraris pre 360 modena used to make me go WOW, when I would see one. All the new stuff is really nice, and I wouldnt say no, but they arent that special anymore or make me think WOW when I see one.
Anyway for me,
Any scuderia
F50
F40
599 GTO
I think I know why this is actually.
Old ferraris where smooth, flowing, and elegant. New ferraris are fussy in design, bulges and wings here and there. It reminds me of what AMG do to mercs, making them look artificially muscular, when they dont need to be! They need to have flowing curves and be sexy, like a woman.
-
I agree Pov. Some of the newer ones like the F12 just lack the elegance of say the F40.
-
F40 or 288 GTO.
I seem to remember Tiff or Top Gear or EVO doing something like this and they came up with the F50 as it is basically and F1 car with road legal bodywork plus lights, etc.
-
Only one for me. without sunroof, of course.
-
I just don't get it.
Saying you don't like Ferrari is like saying you don't like attractive women!
there is a flaw in that logic: Ferraris, particularly modern ones, aren't particularly good looking. So maybe your analogy should be "Saying you don't like Ferrari is like saying you don't like functional women who aren't very good looking."
I'm a Lambo man - my affinity for attractive women is not in doubt :P

I agree in terms of recent form, but since the California, FF and 358, and now the F12, attractive styling is clearly back on the agenda.

Next you're going to say you'd have a Skoda over any Ferrari.
How you can compare a saloon car to a £260,000, 730bhp V12 supercar is beyond comprehension.
-
Next you're going to say you'd have a Skoda over any Ferrari.

Probably because unlike you I'm not suckered into liking a car because of a name or that everyone else does.
We are all individuals. If money was no object and I was going to by a Hypercar/Supercar it would be a Koenigsegg Agera R. It sounds and looks infinitely better than any Ferrari. But that is just my opinion.
However as my first name isn't Sheikh then ,barring a Euromillions win, I prefer to live in the real world and like a car to be able to be used for everything from the weekly shopping trip to a road trip across Europe to a blast around the Ring or Spa. Hence the C63.
Oh and it would be the Estate :P
-
Probably because unlike you I'm not suckered into liking a car because of a name or that everyone else does.
I don't like Audis, but I'd have one over a Ford.
And since when was it fun living in the real world? When talking about Ferraris I'm pretty sure for 99% of the people here it is pure fantasy. But hey, if your fantasy involves an Estate car, then who am I to complain!
-
Obviously my fantasy involves a Koenigsegg. It pays to read the post properly.
-

+ about 700.
-

I did, but you insist on comparing super cars and Merc estates. You're mad.
-
Right, now your being stupid. Since when did I compare a Supercar to a Merc Estate? Have you been taking lessons from the Iraqi information minister on twisting the truth!
All I have said is that I don't like Ferrari's, if I were to own one it would be a 458 and I would take an AMG Merc over any Ferrari. There is nowhere in any post that I have compared any of the cars.
Apart from the fact a couple of people are so narrow minded they don't understand we all have different tastes I don't see what is so hard to understand.
I've already said in my first post in this thread that I prefer Lamborghini's. If the thread title had been about those I would have flown to fantasy land and talked about an Aventador and Twin Turbo Gallardo.
But you seem to have this compunction to try an be clever every now and then. It doesn't wash with me and I can see straight through it. But hey ho you crack on and twist this post. No doubt I'll be comparing a Robin Reliant to an F1 car next
-
Chill out Carl. Can't you take a joke?
-
Yup. :P But you weren't joking

So yes... ill stick with the porker RS4.0....

(b) Because I prefer the styling
(c) Because you cant drive around in a Ferrari and not look like an attention seeking penis that everyone hates (this is fact not opinion)

Fellas.
It wasn't a difficult question. What's your favourite Ferrari?
We are all petrolheads, clearly. And anyone with petrol in their veins is going to love or at least respect Ferrari. Even if you prefer Lamborghini. But why bring in things like practicality and useability? If I was going to go ask about that, The title of the thread would have been something like "What's the most exciting car that can be used on an everyday basis, B roads, school run, Nurbergring etc etc"
-

Why is it so difficult to understand that not everyone will love or respect Ferrari. Just because you do, doesn't mean I have to. That's like me saying to you that because you're a red blooded male you should find Cheryl Cole & Katy Perry as attractive as I do. No doubt you do, but they are not everyone's cup of tea.
It's called individuality and if we all liked the same things we would all be still driving Black Model-T Fords!
A Lamborghini is not exactly a car that is practical either.
-
as Carl has mentioned, we all aspire to different things
you might ask what your favourite Ferrari is, but if your favourite Ferrari is a 458 but you never aspire to own one because it's so far down your list of favourite cars then it's a pointless question.
Carl has taken one side of the question and said that as it's not a realistic aspiration he's chosen to voice his desire for a car that is more realistically attainable. if your question is "which car would you have if money was no object" i doubt many of us would pick a Ferrari at all. i for one would have a tough time choosing between a Koenigsegg and a Pagani and Ferrari would never cross my mind.
so yes, it's a simple question. but it's not simple to answer! "I prefer Lambo", or "I prefer a special edition 911", or "I'd prefer to aspire to something more realistic" are all fair answers to that question.
-
^^^^
I think that what Ian (the OP) means by his thread title is "Assuming you love Ferrari's, which one (Ferrari only) is your favourite?"
So, stating you prefer another marque such as Porsche, Lambo, etc is actually off topic. We all have our individual preferences and should respect the preferences of others.
Aren't some of you being a bit pedantic?
-
most people have offered their favourite Ferrari, but qualified it with other statements regarding their preferences. i think that's fair enough really. it still answers the question and there's nothing wrong with a healthy discussion regarding supercars
bit disappointed with the lack of photoage tho. (no Robin, that doesn't mean a babe draped over a supercar :P - but if you have an example of said photo i wouldn't complain!)

The only Porsche that would get in my fantasy garage (Euromillions permitting) would be the Porsche 918, a Ferrari 458, 599GTO, 288GTO and 328GTB would deffo be in there, no need to buy a 911 unless you need something for shopping :signLOL:
(a) Because Ive wanted a Ferrari since I was 6 when I first got to ride in one :happy2:
(b) Because I prefer the styling of ferrari over the VW beetle look

(d) Porkers are more discreet. two a penny
My opinions, as mentioned in previous posts have been lucky enough to drive many Porsche cars (My mate is mad on them and has in the 12 years i known him owned over 10 different Porsche 911 variant models) and I have been lucky enough to have driven one or two ferraris (Testarossa and 355) and been a passenger in a few others. My mate who is mad on Porsches is currently speccing/pricing a 458 as he fancies something "More Special" (His words not mine), hope he does get the 458 as I will be first in line for a drive of it :happy2:

If I could only choose one Porsche for my fantasy garage it would have to be a 1973 911 Carrera RS 2.7.

....Doubtless due to my English Public School heducassion.
My favourite Ferrari? - Quite a few, each for a different reason, but the 458 Coupe would be the most practical and suit my needs. I would probably want to keep my GTI as well though.

Old School? I think I'm going to stick with the 288 GTO. Amazing styling, a muscular supercar take on the 308/328, and precursor to the F40 in terms of perfomance. But contemporary? 458 Spider for me.

456 GTA

F40 gets the vote from me chaps.
That said I followed a 458 along the road today and it looked pretty mega, though gotta say this 458 looked a tad out of place doing 25 mph in Newcastle traffic just after 6:00pm. Not being thrapped up some mountain pass with loadsarevs onboard.
However it was very shiney and very red. And the dark grey wheels look uber cool.

Not a fan and to say why would be off topic but:
F40 is the only one I would pay money for.

456 GTA
I absolutely loved the 456 GTA when it came out. Don't think time has been kind to it though.

If I could only choose one Porsche for my fantasy garage it would have to be a 1973 911 Carrera RS 2.7.

Yes thats the car I would take over ANY Ferrari any day of the week.
Obviously if I was given a Ferrari I could sell then it would be the most expensive one so I could buy the above.
TBH even the ethics of Porsche nowadays is debatable but thats progress for you I suppose.
I still believe in my mind that even if I had a bit of money I would still be into VW's but who knows until/if that happens.

....What do you mean by "even the ethics"?

i'm guessing models like the Cayenne and Panamera in their line up, rather than being a purist sports car builder. whilst i hate what the Cayenne and Panamera stand for, they have made Porsche much more profitable and hence have made the 911 and Boxster/Cayman some of the best (relatively) affordable sports cars on the planet

Not a fan of Ferrari's from the last 20 years or so,but my fav "classic" is the 288 GTO.Rare and just screams DRIVE ME VERY VERY FAAAAST!!

Nail on the head.
Ferrari have a habit of turning up with a full pit crew for group tests to make sure the car is running perfectly, do they supply that with the car?
They also like to say to magazines 'our car didn't do very well in the Car of the Year so next year we will not give you a car to review'
There is an open letter to ferrari from Chris Harris, which is why i suspect he no longer works for EVO but I can't find it.
Its a shame because they do make a good sports car.
-
Neither here nor there ill take an F40 still. :signLOL:

What sub39h said really, making cars for the masses yet claiming they are still in the game by making the odd GT3RS etc etc.
I do like Porsches over Ferrari although my interest has eased off slightly recently as even the '911' has gone en mass!
I lean more towards the Classic Porsche and have been a subscriber to said magazine since the beginning.
Its a sign of the times Robin, money, and how much can one possible make. Guilty of it myself TBH.
Lottery win would be mainly Aircooled VW and Porsche.
I tell you what though RR, that GT3 RS4.0 was a bit nice

"Volks Wagen" meaning "People's Car" has surely but slowly eroded since Mr Hitler got together with Mr Porsche. Furthermore, UK import duties etc have also contributed to Volkswagen products no longer being cars that the average person can afford to buy. Being German too, the mentality is different and they generally manufacture to higher standards and that costs more.
Personally, I don't have a problem with car production ethics - It's simply a question of A) do I like it and B) can I afford it? Regardless of whether others call it good value for money etc. If I could afford either a modern Ferrari or a modern Porsche (would have to have flappy paddles!), I'd be very happy with either - There's a good range to choose from in either case. Just the small matter of not having the money! It would cost about £35k a year to run a F12 Ferrari if you were regularly enjoying driving it.
-
Your right RR and I would have a Mclaren if I had the money.
Keep it British.
Proper car that.
I think I know what you are going to say next :popcornsoda:

I think I know what you are going to say next :popcornsoda:
....But not even I know what I'm going to say next! (you're not my ex-wife are you!?)
But I would take great pleasure from owning and driving a McLaren - Yet another great car amongst that genre.
-
I stand corrected, I was expecting a 'some of it is made in the EU so not technically British'?
I think the tub is made in Holland?
I can't remember.
Its a bit like the block on the Bugatti is made here as apparently we cast and machine the best in the world.

Yep, motor industry manufacturing and marketing is now a very international arena.
