Title: Eibach vs H&R
Post by: x21ekx on August 05, 2012, 11:59:08 pm
I'm considering  lowering my 170GTD in the near future I hear these two names pop up all the time which is best? I don't want some stupid drop so I can even get around without ripping the front end off and causing untold amounts of problems
I see other manufactures out there like PI are they not any good? If any of you guys have photos that you could post up telling me what drop and problems you may or may not of had I'd be very grateful
Oh and to add at some point I'll be getting a new set of wheels (18's) not sure if that makes a difference??
Cheers guys

You'll be fine with either of those 2. Eibachs seem to be a bit cheaper.

When you get your new wheels make sure you either get,

1) stock 18's which are 18x7.5J ET51

2) aftermarket 18x8J ET45

The second option 8" wheels with an offset of 45 will look alot better on the golf than the stock ones. They will fill the arches better and you won't get any rubbing issues

Oh and try and stick to 225 tyres too.

Here's some photos of my car with H&Rs and different wheels !!!

Absolute class buddy your ride looks amazing in all the photos  :happy2:
I'm thinking your a bit of a wheel whore  :signLOL:
What drop is you car at? And is it me? Or do I sometimes look at some mkv's and see that the back end looks slightly higher than the front?

I'm on H&Rs on 18's  :happy2:

No scraping at all (did do the arch screw mod). H&Rs are known to be a few mm lower than Eibach

I was in the same situation as you between which to chose. I went for H&R's in the end and had then fitted on Saturday. Very good ride, a little bit more choppy compared to stock but never uncomfortable. I didn't want it to be crashy. My choice was made after seeing Monte's pics on them. I'm on 18" Charleston's. No rubbing whatsoever.

Here's a pic. Looks a little uneven due to where its parked but its not far off. Go with H&R's. you won't regret it  :happy2: Check my members ride link in my sig for a few more pics.

X2 H&R ftmfw!! I think the drop on mk5's is slighly uneven, the front tends to sit slightly higher

Eibachs are traditionally softer, and less of a drop.

For looking cool, they're not quite there, but for handling purposes you actually want their approach. Both are very good though, so takes your pick.

H&Rs get my vote! Have them on mine and they are great. Im getting used to the drop now and want something a little lower! No difference in ride quality either

I've had my H&R's on for the past 3-4 weeks and am feeling the same. Another 10mm would be perfect although not sure thats wise as am planning on getting some new alloys which will be wider and have a lower ET compared to the Monza's.

Next question is? Where to buy H&R's and who does the best deal? And are the gt tdi one the same as the GTI ones?

Tdi ones need a higher axle weight due to the heavier engine. I got mine from awesome gti
