Hi All, first time posting so apologies if this has been covered at any point just getting used to the forum
i bought the Golf back in May my first Golf GTI, grey 5 door with leather and 17" wheels and have loved every minute of it. :driver:
on saturday while doing a short 5 mile journey not driving the car hard at all (town driving) it had a little miss almost felt like it was about to run out of fuel and juddered a couple of times then stopped and then a couple of minutes later did exactly the same. On the same afternoon I then drove 250 ish miles to wales for a night away and ran brilliantly good fuel consumption was pulling well in every gear and went without a hitch. yesterday did the return journey and exactly the same the car ran great. on both Journeys the car sat for a few minutes either end to cool down before turning off.
This morning on the way to work which is a 7 mile journey mostly A roads 60 ish mph it started juddering/missing again most of the 7 mile trip. It has 65000 miles on the clock with full history and the cam belt and service was done when i purchased it at about 62000 miles, I have checked this morning and any recalls have been carried out.
Has any one come across a similar problem and whats the best way to start? plugs, coilpacks etc...
-
What year is your car as if it's a coil pack problem, it may be replaced FOC by VW if your car is on the recall list.
Suggest you phone up your VW dealer service department and ask if your car is on the recall list.
That being said IMO your issue is either plugs or coil packs.
-
Thanks for the reply its 2005/55 I called the stealers this morning and they have advised me that there are no outstanding recalls, think I may have a look at the plugs tonight. is there any way of checking coilpacks without any form of diagnostics?
-
You really need something like vcds for misfires especially if it's only one coil pack acting up.

Mine is a 55 plate and had the coil pack recall - there should be a sticker either in your boot under the carpet and/or in the service booklet at the back showing if this has been done :happy2:
-
Thanks for the the replies, I managed to get it onto a diagnostics a few days ago and there are no fault codes showing. will get the plugs out and carry out a minor service over the bank holiday weekend and hopefully check the DV valve at the same time.

This recently happened to my 08 gti and i replaced the coilpacks and plugs with no difference ,it threw an ecu light on and it turned out to be the primary o2 sensor ,got one from TPS and fitted it reset the ecu and the job was sorted !
-
Thanks for the help once I've done the plugs and coils as I already have them I will look at the O2 sensor, did the sensor show up on a code reader?

Mine did but was sensor 2 post cat
-
Thanks guys, plugged it into the code reader again and still nothing.
yesterday on the way home it started again but this time as i was approaching an island it just died on me!

Yea mine showed up as the 1st o2 sensor ,so unplugged the clip and it ran fine ,put the clip back together and reset the engine light via a snap on diagnostic tool and the light came straight back on after 1 mile of driving plugged it back into the diagnostic tool and it showed the same o2 sensor 1 fault ,replaced the sensor and all is good !

Bit of a late update but finally serviced the car today, oil and filter, air filter, plugs and 4 coils and forge dump valve. Will run it for a few days and see if it solves the issue and will right a little update. On a
Separate note gilders seat in Sheffield are a shower of s**t, purchased the car in may and they had apparently service the car as part of the deal and the oil and filter today by no means looked a few monts old and had only cover a couple of thousand miles. Rant over

It's back!!!
It's been running great and then all of a sudden over the last couple of days it's done the judder thing a couple of times.
At a bit of a loss at the minute. I've done 4 coils, plugs and upgraded to a forge dump valve. Nothing showing up on the diagnostics still?!??!?!!???
-
I did have the same problem, it appeared to be labouring a bit when idle, juddered quite badly sometimes. I then had a Powerflex dogbone insert fitted, any judder is 95% gone, feels much more stable. They are quite cheap too, and easy enough to fit (for somebody who knows what he's doing) when up on ramps...
Just a thought!!
-
Thanks for the reply may have to try that aswell, wast sure whether it may be an injector problem aswell?
May have to take a trip to the guru's at r-tech and get them to put it on the rollers and get there thoughts on the situation. :)
-
PCV valve could be knackered ?? have a search on here for it. Or if any of the pipes to / from it have a hole in them this can cause vacum loss and cause judder
-
I haven't pulled it apart yet to check the PCV properly but will have a look to see what state it's at the weekend. Thanks for the help and advice though :)

It's not resolved. Saturday while drive from a friends wedding to the reception the car almost went into limp mode. Pulled out of a junction and accelerated to 60 then it wouldn't accelerate any more, couldn't get it to rev past 2500 for about 3 miles and was juddering again! This is getting very frustrating to say the least. I have how ever fitted a forge catch tank today so maybe that might help things. Hopefully!
-
What would ppls thoughts be for this on changing the rear pcv breather valve
-
Well 2 days down with the forge catch tank and all is ok so far. Fingers crossed this may have solved it but will update again in a week :)
-
Have a thorough check of all your vacuum pipes.
Good Luck !
-
Problem is is on going :(
Saturday night popped to the shops and pulled out onto the road and it happened, would rev past 3000 and was very slow to get to 3000 rpm, lasted for a few hundred yards and then was back on point with no problems. Someone has suggested the cat but not sure how trust worthy that may be. Still no lights coming up on the dash and nothing coming up on the diagnostics. Anyone got any other suggestions?
-
Did you sort it?
Throttle body perhaps.
-
Still on going, I tried millers injector cleaner with every tank through the summer which seemed to clear it up but it's back. It's making me think it could be an injector problem. Any thoughts?
-
Thought I would resurrect this as it is precisely the same issue. It's probably the same damn car! :)
It has been getting worse, sometimes just a couple of judders then runs fine. Today it was in a right state wouldn't rev jumping around, wasn't good. Getting it back to the garage tomorrow, although I'd put money on it that il start it up and drive it there without a single hiccup!
So far dv has been replaced full service plugs etc coolant fans.
Really driving me mad, it's my other halfs car who is 5 months pregnant and is very worried to drive it now.
Thought coils but when it's running ok it's fine good mpg certainly moves along quickly too. If a coil was dead it would be running badly all the time. Also apparently no faults read...
If anyone has any ideas? Getting a bit stuck with this now. Only had it two months starting to wish I hadn't bought it...
Cheers

Bringing up an old post.
I'm currently in the same position too.
- No faults recorded on VCDS
- Coils etc all checked
Cam chain tensioner?
