Title: Clacking noise on start up...
Post by: mrbeck on August 07, 2012, 08:27:19 pm
Got a noise coming from the engine bay on start up which sounds like a fan making contact with something it shouldn't.  Only lasts 2-3 secs and then stops.  Have ha a look under the bonnet, but can't see anything which looks out of place or damaged.  Any ideas?

Is it followed by an electrical high-pitched whine?

This is the electronically-controlled throttle self-calibrating, nothing to worry about  :happy2:

No, definitely not that I'm afraid.  Had the car nearly three years now, and this is definitely a new noise.

Was told on another forum that it might be a sticking starter motor?  Not sure how likely that is.

It could well be the starter motor or solenoid. Mine does the same thing. Can you post a sound clip?

Will try to get one for you...

Problem is it doesn't happen every single time.  Probably 1 in every 3 starts.
