So I went out for a passanger ride in my friends KO3 Stage2+ GTI last night. Pulled really well. His spec was Milltek cat-back, HPFP internals and custom remap. He's not had it on the RR but reckons its pushing around 270-280 BHP.
Jumped back in my stock KO3 GTI. Inevitably it felt very slow in comparison, boost felt weak and didn't pull up to the redline as the mapped one did :sad1:
So this left me with a few options, go for a stage 1 map (which I planned to do anyways)
Go for stage 2+ with TBE, intake and HPFP
Sell and buy an edition 30 and go stage 1 for around 280-300BHP
Mod wise my car had Eibach pro kit, WALK and K&N Filter.
Other parts are new susp mounts, superpro rear arm bushes and new lower engine mounts with Powerflex insert ( to be fitted)
Generally the car handles well, has good body control and stops ok too.
What sort of power can I expect with a basic stage 1 with a good tuner, 245-250?
How much power can I expect with stage 2+ with TBE, HPFP & a decent intake. How much would I expect to pay for those 3 parts with the exhaust from BCS for example and a good HPFP and intake. Is the difference from stage 1 to stage 2+ really noticeable?
As for buying an edition 30, I'm not too keen as my Golf has a really good spec, I've spent quite a bit on it and may struggle to find a nice ed30 for a good price...
Sorry if this has dragged on, any options would be good :happy2:

Stage 1 Edition 30... will give you upto 290bhp and you can rinse your mate... :P
-
Stage 1 Edition 30... will give you upto 290bhp and you can rinse your mate... :P
But will cost you £3k + to buy an edition 30 + remap. Plus all the hassle of selling up and finding an Ed30 you like.
You will have to remove all your handling mods of your current car.
I've thought of making that very change but bang for Buck, it's just not worth it. Buy a K04 turbo (£300), some S3 injectors (£300ish) Bolt it all on, map it and have all the power of an ed30 for a lot less. .

id go 2+, awesome usable power (275-285bhp). IF that ends up not being enough then get k04 bits and have 330bhp

anything over stage 1 will defo need uprated brakes also
keep your car and get a k04 and s3 injectors
also remember if your going stage 2 + you will need a uprated clutch and cover and a DMF
+ the rest

I've heard the difference between stage 1 and stock is like night and day? I'm sure an extra 40-50BHP would make a huge difference. All for £300 or so
Reason I'm unsure about stage 2+ is I'm not sure how much longer I plan to keep the car, as much as I like it don't wanna start dropping a few thousand pound on it only to sell up next year. Would really love a big V8 and with AMG mercs, RS4s and M3s coming down in price so much, it's hard to ignore them. I know where I'd rather spend the money

stage 1 is the best bang for buck
im planning on going stage 1 as I just want that extra power but not pay too much
stage 1 will still be good on orginal clutch etc so
just a stage 1 remap will probs go with bluefin with precat removed and a k&n panel filter
some new rubber and tracking done thats my plan, can't wait :star:
+ my other little mods should be a treat

No point in going stage 2 + if your thinking of selling is there ?
Imo make up your mind wheather you are keeping it first and if you are go for stage 2+ its a great package on the gti
Having had both stage 1-2 and 2+ gtis and edition 30s i wouldnt say its worth swaping a gti for an eddy, however if you were looking to buy and tune id say go for the eddy ! :happy2:

Really depends how entertaining the car is after the map as to whether I'll keep it or not. Think I've made my mind up

Ive had 2+ gti and now i'm on k04 conversion. The difference is phenominal and the power i have in the dry is extremely useable, not so in the wet but i dont drive fast is the wet anyway. Seriously if you intend on going k04 i personally think you would give some on the big v8's you were talking about a scare. :happy2:

Been here, but actually the other way round. Owned a poverty spec ed30, but bought it for modding. But it did not have an extra from the factory, so sold it for a gti with RNS,cruise, sunroof,xenons,18s,electric heated leather seats, plus stage 2+ bluetooth, spec from a club member. Never looked back, bought the sps to reduce boost on my commutes and get 38-39 av mpg on a 18 mile run. The stage 2 on a gti does lack the power to the red line feel, but the spec and midrange , and economy when I need it is worth while.
I'd only sell for a stage 2 ed30 in white, one come up recently, but was 4k more than my car, could not justify it.
Go out in a stage 2 gti , where are you based?
-
Its quicker and a good drive stage 1 depends on what you think is entertaining enough stage 2 + is good and works well with a s3 intercooler, ask your mate for another go in his and make up your mind, stage 2 + is in a differant ball park to stage 1 imo - the noise adds to the effect !

Off topic I know, stage 2+ to ko4 would need a new clutch too, plus turbo, injectors, pipe work and labour, 2k?
I've been toying with this, but then selling up for me and going ed30 would make sense
-
Correct buddy, there is a thread on here that lists everthing you need for the conversion, in which case id probably say an eddy would be better for resale values.
-
try stage 1 first as as stage 2 requires alot of money tbh
you'll need a good TBE could cost up to 1k
good induction kit up to 350
uprated brakes up to 500
uprated hpfp up to 800
uprated clutch + cover+ new dmf up to 1k
your looking at over 4k easy

Stage 2 requires a downpipe only...
2+ requires the HPFP and induction.
Brakes i recommend if your standard!
Clutch not sure on as im rocking dsg.

Stg1 for me I think. Stg2+ will come if I really wanna drop a few thousand pounds for 40 or so horses

40 or more horses for most of the rev range, its not all about peak power, its about how long you get that power for.

stage 2 can easily lead to more money
new clutch/cover
uprated hpfp to say the least
imo stage 1 is perfect as when u go into stage 2 u better have a few grand saved if you want benefits of it
