Today I worked none stop for 13 hours in heat touching 40 degrees, came home to grief via FaceTime (terrible invention) from eldest daughter re her sister, then grief from the other one about the first one, hastle from my lovely misses to sort out "the girls" and their bickering, then the Monster In Law on the phone giving it both barrels about my sister in law. Bloody women!! It's 23.30 and I might sit down and have something to eat now and watch the Olympics.
Rant over, sorry but you did ask what I did today!! :signLOL:
:happy2:

Played my last round of golf at my local golf club before I re-locate to cornwall next week, it just happened to be my best round ever too, 7 over par for 79 gross and 65 net :ashamed: scoring 44 points in the stableford comp and winning it by 7pts :ashamed: (my handicap was cut by 1.4 today to 12.8) yesterday was the first time I got called a bandit :signLOL:
-
Washed the fleet (Mk5, R32, and merc) land rover stays dirty. Got 4 way alignment done on R32 after fitting adjustable rear tie bars and ordered a set of KW clubsports with adjustable top mounts.

....I can only imagine what that was like! Very funny when seen from the oustide and not involved. Women are masters at bitching about other women - I think it's in the genes and part of the way they compete with each other. I bet the thought crossed your mind to escape about doing another 13hr shift!

.
Today (Saturday) I attended a Native American gathering on a cricket pitch:

....Been dancing on the Pow Wow trail for nearly 40 years, both in the UK and across the pond. Consequently I have made many Native friends, some of whom view me as extended family. When my son passed on and I needed a divorce, I rushed off across the pond to stay with Native friends and came back with my first flute (traditionally a healing instrument as well as wooing the ladies) - Hence my music path.
@ Martin: Extremely tenous indeed! I'm pretty sure that Moon Bloodgood isn't Native but she is a joy to behold. Talking of Moon, this lady is Native:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fstachemedia.files.wordpress.com%2F2010%2F03%2Fdq45phd_175gpx6cffz_b.jpg&hash=ba31089a3e87152278c6077d14cfbf19da7691bc)
There are some mighty fine Native women but they tend to be modest, at least, publicly! It's the traditional Native way.

Ahh ok... so your dont have any blood link? (i presumed you did)
Today..... another BBQ, mowed the lawn with the Bosch REVO stage 1 mower. :signLOL:
-
Ahh ok... so your dont have any blood link? (i presumed you did)
....No blood link. I'm often needing to point that out, even to some Native folks! It used to worry me and I was going to give it all up but Native friends encouraged me and told me it was in my heart anyway whether I wanted it or not. :happy2:

That's good stuff fella, well in :happy2:
In a similar boat, won my second ever medal in July with a net 54 and landed second on the board in the August medal with the same score. It's a short tricky course with a par 58 so not as impressive at initially reads.
None the less it's meant 4 shots cut from my handicap in just over a month :scared:

Saturday: I sorted out all my parents camping gear as they now have a caravan so they are looking to sell everything.
10 man, 4 man tents available. Loads of accessories such as they carpets, wardrobes, fridges etc if anyone is after anything I can get pictures up
Sunday: I have just returned from a road trip to Englands largest single drop waterfall (Hardraw Force)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fk161%2Fastramk-3%2F810b0083.jpg&hash=e004341746000746bea1f05ca535ca9029b6b2ee)
and now a takeaway and a film is on the cards to see the evening out.

....Great idea. You'll definitely feel pleased in the knowledge that others might spot you more easily at times when it could matter from a safety point of view. And they look cool IMO. They even make a difference to cars you are expecting to overtake on dual carriageways/motorways. The days of some people thinking you are a cock for having your foglights on are over (as I always knew they would be). [RR waits for some forum wag to say that some people think I'm a cock anyway!]
Do your fogs have non-OEM bulbs?
Red Mk5 GTI in the background?

Driven from Preston to Newport Gwent to get a new passport, London tomorrow to get a new pilots license after some retard nicked my whole life in a bag from my van last week....
Got a US license too so had to explain to the Transport Security Agency/Homeland security Agency and had the FBI notified its gone missing as its a security risk.....
So guess who's getting the rubber glove treatment next time into the US
So to the retard who nicked my bag ......f#%k you, you moth#%#]*kin t*^t faced w#%k stain village idiot.....
Ruined a week of my life I'll never get back

....In daylight, in a similar way to when a car or motorbike is approaching you from behind with it's headlights on, your attention is (or should be!) grabbed more quickly than when the following car/bike has no lights on. But the difference with DRL's is that they are not as blinding and the emitted light is more clearly defined. The result is that a) you are not blinded and hence potentially irritated and b) your brain can more easily and accurately judge the scale and distance of the faster approaching vehicle. I first experienced this several years ago on unrestricted sections of German autobahns where I was holding ~130 mph but much faster German Audi RS's etc were bearing down on me at ~160-180 mph. Next time I went to Germany I had Hella DRL's fitted and so slower vehicles than mine would get plenty of advance notice of my approach. Audi were the first to fit such LED DRL's AFAIK.
Fogs/DRL's are much kinder to the eyes of other road users than dipped headlights in my opinion. Rightly or wrongly, some drivers view headlights as a degree of aggression and won't cooperate in letting you overtake.
Generally German drivers are far far better at keeping lane discipline though.
Hopefully I won't now have started something which results in me posting: Today I got embroiled in a long debate about DRL's
-
not a fan of DRL's. simply c0ck lights imo. If you dont notice someone coming up behind you then you shouldnt be driving :rolleye: :driver:
-
If you dont notice someone coming up behind you then you shouldnt be driving :rolleye: :driver:
....Absolutely true! So, how many drivers should be paying enough attention to driving and so notice you but don't? - Far too many. By having DRL's you are adding to the liklihood of some of those numpties seeing you and not pulling out on you or not moving over for you.
But if you simply don't like DRL's then that's fair enough and I'm not bothered by being thought of as a c0ck. :happy2:
-
^^^^
Just read DaveB's post - That's a real bummer! Sorry to hear that, Dave. Let's hope it's true that what goes around comes around and the scum befall an ill fate!
-
Cheers for your DRL explanation. I definitely agree that motorbikes with a dipped headlight are much more noticeable.
Only thing with using the front fogs is - surely they blind other drivers?? Or is it just the rear fogs that are so bright?
-

....Yes, rear fogs are a lot lot brighter than fronts, as I'm sure we have all experienced when numpties forget to switch the red rears off!
Front fogs will not be as effective as made-for-purpose LED DRL's which are classed as a passive light, the term 'passive' meaning that the emitted light does not illuminate the way ahead but is merely seen.
I find that the low down position of fogs is less blinding than headlights even when dipped. It's why I asked sub39h if he had aftermarket bulbs in his fogs.

standard fog bulbs RR, and they turn themselves off when my (automatic) headlights are on, so no dazzling other drivers
the red GTI in the background belongs to someone in my building. i don't think he's an enthusiast tho, and it hardly ever gets driven.

I seem to find those with DRL's on also drive seriously close to the rear of my car... if anything distracting me from those in front slightly. I know you would do that though robin :P

Par 58! Wow, thats short. Where do you play, Pete?
Yup - all par 3's, two par 4's. It's a tough course located in central Northants. Don't be fooled by the par. Requires a superb short game as one green can have reasonable hold, the next will be a postage stamp compared and you have to land everything short of the pin. I know plenty of single handicappers who get there with the wrong attitude and shoot well over 65...
It's one of those courses, always has something up it's sleeve  2's aren't uncommon, but neither are 6's or 7's out of the bunkers with very little sand. It's not a 'proper' course, but a good experience. I know it very well now and consistently play 9 holes under a card of 35. I'm not a low handicapper or anything close, but I'm getting there.
You're in the North East aren't you?
:happy2:

Was a decent drive out in my mates Porsche, even went through a scarecrow festival in Kettlewell.

Cycled 10k and swam for about 10mins.
Mowed both lawns.

Going to west end tonight to play on singing in the rain.

I don't own a mk5 yet due to being the most indecisive person alive - great forum, absorbing the knowledge here has been a good distraction to not owning one yet!

Yep it's been a hard decision, as you say it's high profile and top of my field of expertise.
Going for a big change that will be challenging and rewarding in a whole new way :happy2:

Must have been a hard decision to leave that job Steve. All the best in the new role, does the new job also involve Team Milltek?

Mind me asking what the new line of work entails? I'd love to have the balls to up and leave pretty much everything i know (IT) too and go down a new career path.

....Taking that very first step is always the hardest (including making a move on a new girlfriend!) but after a few steps later you wonder why you didn't do it sooner. Most people are afraid of change. It's not wise to leave a job of employment until you have something else to go to.

....dropped my car off to Greeners at Detail my ride... This week is gonna drag... Trip back in the i10 in monsoon conditions on the m40 was rather interesting with its trolley style tyres :scared:... Even more scary then driving a 300bhp ed30 on stock brakes if I'm honest

Today (now yesterday) I....
....Staked and string tied over 30 Sunflowers in my garden. They are beginning to bud and the heads get heavy. It has been very windy so tieing them to bamboo poles helps to stop them breaking. It's amazing to see what results from just one little seed. Some this year are wild.

All this positivity about DRL's greatly amuses me - There's even a new thread someone has just started about wanting some.
When I fitted my Hella LED DRL's way back in 2009 I got nothing but flak!

All up and running now, just testing the amp and power supply for consistency before I start drilling holes in the ceiling.
Gonna have a BBQ then head to work.

....Tipsy ladies are always funny - Particularly if it makes them horny! Just as long as they don't throw up on you! (or in your car).
Ah, Box Hill. Before anyone had ever heard of Wiggo, I used to ride up Box Hill towards the end (back into Chelsea) of a ~90 mile training ride. A kind of perverse pleasure but I never got off my bike up any hill ever - Wanted to though!

^^^^ Tipsy = sleepy :sad1:
Drunk = horny :happy2:
But.........Drunk and a chapter of Fifty Shades of Grey = FILTHY and horny!! : :pomppomp: :pomppomp:
As to riding up that hill at Box Hill on a bicycle, no chance matey! Worth stopping at the top Robin, lots of super fit women up there in Lycra

....I imagine it would be very critical where you sit if you want to enjoy a well produced piece of music to the full. What is the bass like?
-
I suppose youre right Robin. They sound epic when I'm laid on my bed, which is the exact purpose of them. They still sound great when wandering around the room, but obviously not as nice, its impossible to get perfect audio everywhere.
The bass is surprisingly good actually, but not ultra punchy which is perfect for me. Its the stereo spacing which is absolutely brilliant, they are amazing speakers and they were a steal too.
Just listerning to Jimmy Webb and it sounds like Im sat in the control booth...

Aha! I hadn't realised it was a bedroom. So they're in the sweet spot for when you are lying in bed. Does your missus like the same kinds of music as you do, Rich?
Hey! Following your love of photography, they don't conceal cameras do they?

Today I wrote you all a guide for replacing your door lock module :happy2:

Really nice pic Robin, I have noticed a few sun flowers popping up above fences the last week or two.

No hidden cameras unfortunately. :innocent:

....Cheers! TC :drinking: - Not shot on anything fancy but a FinePix digital compact.
Sunflowers are very hardy indeed considering what the weather has been like this year. Great fun to see those big smiley flower faces and to see how tall they can grow.
-
Ours are barely 5ft tall Robin :sad1:

....My record is nearly 8ft and most of mine are currently well over 6ft and only just starting to bud. I've got at least 30 in my garden, some growing wild from last year's crop.
-
.
Today I....
Fiddled about a bit in my garden, which is more like a rough paddock with a small wildlife pond and dozens (well, over 30) Sunflowers. The Sunflowers are beginning to bloom and it was a real joy to see some Honey Bees on them.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FPondLife%2FSunflowers%2Ffile-1.jpg&hash=d49669cacfae2bb19a4810897d22cea438535f79)
^ Not to be compared with the technical quality of some of the photogs on this forum as it was only taken on a FinePix compact digital. But I'm very happy with it.
It's amazing that Honey Bees can sense where pollen and nectar is from literally several miles away. Their populations have suffered very badly this year due to the excessive rainfall. Honey will become expensive.

Cool pic Robin :happy2:

Really like that, lovely image, for me it captures summer. :congrats:
Went to a lavender farm in the Cotswolds recently and they keep more than a few hives in the fields to produce their own honey, tasted lovely. Incredible amount of Bubble Bees as well (truly a sight to see).

Thanks 'M' guys Mike n Martin! - Knowing that folks like a pic is always very encouraging.
There was actually another Honey Bee plus a Bumble Bee there when I arrived but they flew off when my camera lens got close - Barely inches with a pocket-sized compact. But luckily this bee had its body well outlined with pollen which helps the photo.
Most bees and wasps (like many animals) are able to sense how you are towards them and there is no need for fear for either party. I wanted to keep bees but my neighbour wasn't happy.
I now feel encouraged enough to use it as a Cover on my Facebook page for a bit (until the Paralympics start). I'll have to crop and flip it but hopefully the composition won't suffer too much. Time for Jess Ennis and friends to move over.
