I am sure this as been covered many times before but I am in need of some new tyres. What are the best to buy?
I have goodyear f1 asymmetric at the min but haven't been impressed with them.I don't do track days just normal
driving.
cheers :happy2:

I think either the ones you already have or Michelin Pilot Sports seem to be the 2 choices people go for on here from reading previous threads.
I am due some due tyres and think I'm going to take a punt with some Hankook Ventus V12's. VRSAlex on here has them on his Octavia and likes them and it was him and why he has done to his car that swayed me.
-
all depends on what you want to spend, the michelins are a excellent tyre as well as the conti 5.A mid range tyre the hankook are good
-
I really don't want to spend any money at all but can't cope with tyre noise anymore.Sounds like the wheels bearings are going to fall out!
Not having the goodyears again. The inner tyre wall split on the front tyres after about 7000 miles!

I have PS3s. Grip well in the dry and wet is decent too. Wear rate is very quick tho
-
Pirelli P Zero...!!!
Expensive but....... :happy2:
-
I use the same as above they seem really good in all weathers, I am going to try some michelin ps3 on the fronts soon though just so I can compare the two. I wouldnt reccomend falkens though as they seemed noisey and lacked grip :happy2:
-
Toyo T1R seem to be a good grippy tyre, dry & wet... Quiet too! :driver:

I second that comment bout PS3's wearing quickly, well the front two anyway! I had all 4 April last yr, and last mth the front 2 were down to 2mm, shocking, only done bout 8k miles! That said, had remap since then, some spirited driving during, lol!
-
I had ps3's put on April last year also and have done over 10k on them and the fronts were on 4mm and rear on 7mm April this year.. Had to change the fronts as got an unrepairable puncture so put rears on front and new ones on the rear and I can't fault them
-
A vote for the Goodyear Assy 2's here :notworthy:
Fantastic grip in the wet and dry, never known a tyre to be as grippy (and I've tried several on various hot hatches).
The fact they won Autoexpress tyre test at least once shows how good they are :happy2:

I am currently running Dunlop Sport Maxx and they are okay and a overall tyre. On my previous two cars (S60R) I ran Pirelli PZero Rossos and I absolutely loved them as they had lots of grip, wet and dry. As soon as they got just under half tread depth left they did start to loose some traction in the wet, but in the R which was AWD and weighed about 2 tons, no problem :) I did run Vredresteins Ultrac Sessanta on the R and people seem to rant and rave about them on car forums. Personally I think they are the biggest pile of dirt you could put on your car. They squeal when pushed then let go when you least expect it. No wet grip. Wast of money. It all comes down to how you drive, how much you want to spend and the car they are going on. Just one thing, buy the best you can afford!
I still have quite a lot of life left in my DSM, so when I come to change I might either try GoodYear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 or Conti's Sportconatct 3 or 5.
This is a good website to gain some info on tyres: http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/ and the 'Grid' http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Grid/

^^ @ Panthera
Do you find the SportMaxx's rumble like a steam roller??
I had them on the front before and they were so noisy. Good straight line grip in the dry, but utterly hopeless in the wet (at least compared to the GY's)
-
Another vote for Toyo T1R, quiet, good grip and a good price
-
I must need to give it some more welly guys, as I'm finding my 'Michey' PS3's lasting really good -
I personally found them really hard riding, compared to the Conti CSC3's that were on but in my view they give great dry grip and pretty decent wet performance too.
Tempted by Conti CSC5 or Goodyear Assy 2's next though, if the PS3's ever wear out..
-
I've learned that preference for tyres is very subjective even though you'd probably imagine its a subject that you could be quite objective about...
For the record I have the vred ultrac sessantas and I think they're a good tyre, at least if you are a spirited driver rather than a mad Harry with nigh on 300 bhp in a fwd car...
-
I put Goodyear assy 2 on my car when I bought it and was very happy
I haven't had tyres on that grip so good in the wet and Hardly any road noise
I have assy 1s on my 19s and will be replacing them with assy 2s when they wear out (unless Costco has a deal on pilot super sports at the time
-
I've just replaced some PS3s with the Goodyear Assym V2, very impressed so far :happy2:
The PS3s were a very good tyre though imo and coped extremely well with all weathers and the odd track day, lasted incredibly well (24k miles) with a mid life front to back rotation, first impressions are that the GYs have the edge in outright traction both wet and dry with a much comfier and quieter ride thanks to the softer sidewall, whether that has a downside compared to the PS3 when used on track time will tell..
As has been said the differences between the top premium brands is becoming increasing small imo and is a very subjective decision and will differ even on identical cars depending on suspension set up etc

Good to hear someone who has had both top brands :happy2:
Goodyear Assy 2 FTW :notworthy:

Thanks for the input.Got the ps3 being fitted
Tomorrow.Fallen out with the good years
Not happy that the inner side walk split
And got awful tyre noise with at least 5mm
Of tread!
-
can't go wrong with the ps3 michelins

I have had 17" PS3's and thought they were a great tyre with plenty of grip in both the wet and dry... very positive in direction and stability. But unless my missus was using the launch control from the lights every day I thought the ware rate was a bit quick as after 7500 miles on the front and mostly town work they were down to 4.5mm so maybe we would of got 11000 out of them..... Saying that I have just change my wheels to 18" so had to buy new tyres... it was a toss up between the PS3's and the Eagle F1 2's .... thought I would have a change and went for the F1's ... first impression was that even going from 17" to 18" the F1's seem give a softer ride well maybe not softer but certainly not harsh even from going from 17" to 18" I'm happy with that as I was worried going up in wheel size would make it to hard what with the general state of our roads... plus I'm getting on a bit  Not done to many miles on them yet so not really pushed it to hard but I have noticed that the car seems to move around a bit more than it did on the PS3's nothing drastic though, Seem to have plenty of grip both wet and dry... Running 31 psi on the front and 30 psi on the back same as the I ran on the PS3's so maybe need to go up a bit... very happy with them and Time will tell on the ware rate

Not that I have noticed yet. I have read about nuggeting (?) with these, so I will keep and eye and ear on them.
