Took my Eddy into JCT600 this morning for a coolant leak that's been happening since the water pump/cam belt change in may...
Started of a little bit at a time now it was getting worse got a phone call a few hours after taking it in saying that it was leaking from both sides of the engine one being the water pump and could they have it longer to assess it further, a few hours later I got another phone call saying its worse case scenario and that the water pump is in fact fine and that the head gasket is leaking and needs replacing to the tune off £823 I was absolutely Gutted!!
Having thought more into it I think there taking me for a ride! Having spoke to a VW tech friend and the guys at awesome (who have both never replaced a faulty head gasket) they seem to think the same as me'
Also the car displayed none of the other symptoms mayo in the oil filler etc? And the coolant I've seen leaking is clean coolant? The car is due to be repaired as off tomorrow afternoon when the parts arrive.
What do how guys suggest to ease my mind as the best cause off action?
Any help/advice massively appreciated!

On its an 08 Eddy with 47k on the clock!

First off Id be asking for massive good will from VW on this and also would be pissed off maybe pop in and have a look at the car in bits and speak with the Tech , I thought you could have a sniffer test or some additive put in that showed gasket failure
-
i would be taking it some where else for a 2nd opinion
-
Shall I go first thing and ask to speak to the tech like mentioned and then if I'm still not happy ask them to put it back together and take it for a second opinion? Where shall I take it to a specialist? I don't know where to take it? I'm in East Yorkshire and don't know of anywhere reliable : ( awesome GTI maybe?

I've replaced head gaskets for leaking before seen it quite a bit on these to be honest , if it's just the gasket then £550 all in from us
Mind you if you say it didn't leak before the dealer touched it then yes try for some good will etc

I could get to Sheffield but if I go in there and pay for what they've done so far and come over to Sheffield then I've seen myself off haven't I? Mind you 550 is a really good price compared to what they've quoted me : )

On the info from above , I would suggest to your VW Dealer that you need some goodwill and would be looking to pay no more than £550 ,
-
Had a similar problem with mine back in may, leaking coolent from the right side of the engine as you look at it, turned out to be a plastic junction that three coolent pipes run-to that then connects to the side of the
engine there's a rubber sealent ring inside that had gone hard like plastic causing the coolent to leak down the side of the engine cost me £75 with the parts, hopefully they've checked this for you ?

I think I may do this and then just stand there and watch them to make sure he actually changes the dam thing! On a serious note though can I go in and ask to see proof off the leak and results of any compression tests etc they might have done?
Thanks for all the help guys I appreciate it!

Or ask them to go 50-50 with you, try VW GB themselves it's only done 47K bit below parr if it's running stock
