Title: Door Controller-What version-Fitting BoldSport door warning
Post by: keendean on August 24, 2012, 03:26:42 pm
I am just attempting to fit my door warning lights

http://www.bold-sport.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&keyword=Door+Warning+Lights&product_id=61

I am trying to follow

http://www.my-gti.com/2150/adding-door-warning-lights-to-the-volkswagen-golf-and-jetta-front

I am unsure what version of door controller I have , Gen I, Gen II? I am confused

You get one chance in putting the pins in the right place :)

Any ideas/Pointers anyone? Car is a five door 2006. SO presume it would be a Gen I.

the pins in the 32 way connector can come back out quite easily by using a needle on the locking tab then a gentle pull out they come, it also says that if pin 1 is in use then its gen 3, if nothing in pin 1 then gen 2

Thanks :) I did read that. Every guide I've read the door controller part numbers do not match up to mine, for some odd reason.
Will try a second attempt with a mate, when I fit later Cecm too :)

I'm almost sure u got a gen1.

Use pin 18 for live pickup and pin 19 for negative.

Don't forgot you WILL need to use VCDS to code the new lights, and you will need to code both the drivers door controller and the passenger side.

See what the number in the Door warning lights is and add 64 to the number......(mine was 564, so after adding 64 the new value was 628)

Insert the new number and click "Do it"

All done.

Just added some puddle lights on my car and I used the door warning light feed.

If u need any help just let me know, it's real easy when u know how  :happy2:

I would say you probably have GEN2 controllers, although you could have GEN3

Check pin 1 on the drivers door 32pin plug. If you have a wire here then you are GEN3 if not then use it for the power feed for the lights

Thanks Eddie, not the door controller I was expecting. I'll check today.  I'd like to know what Gen it is, when venturing down puddle lights/folding mirrors option  :happy2:

RE: Further mods to the door module.

I don't know about the part numbers in reference to the Gen level, but when you get the Exit/Warning lights coded in with VAGCOM you will see a list of options that can be enabled on your controllers.

For example, this is from mine:

Thanks, so if the options are there, they are avaliable?

So as you have the options of folding mirrors, does this include the puddle light on the mirror too?

I'll pop and see my mate soon with VAGCOM.  Want to get the lights installed first, once I have a fight with the door card

I believe so.

I have installed the door warning lights and some LED's for puddle lights in the sandard mirrors.
Just pinned them up and turned them on through VAGCOM.

Good luck with the door cards!

You installed puddle lights

I'm not fussed about folding mirrors, but would like puddle lights, and yours work? So if I have the function for folding mirrors, I can fit puddle lights? Which guide did you follow, and what LEDS did you buy? Do you have a pic of them fitted ? :happy2:

Brown wire in number two, is this Gen II? Where do I put my two wires for the light?  :signLOL:

You have to find a spare earth if you have one. power from pin 1

There are lots of pings, and only three wires, how do I know what pin number the earth is? Thanks :happy2:

you need a multimeter and check to see which other ones are earth by testing continuity

Will do, if I have pins 1 and 2 availible from the controller, is this Gen II or III? I can send a pic of the output of the pins.
At least I now know pin 1 is power, so half way there

The two big wires entering the module are the power into the door. Red/Yellow is power and Brown is Ground. Buzz the ground through to the pins on the 32-pin connector.

According to this page; http://www.my-gti.com/2158 (http://www.my-gti.com/2158) Power is pin 1 and ground is pin 2 on the Gen 1 or 2

Oh, and RE: the puddle lights. I'll get some pictures of them on later (when it gets dark!). I used the my-gti page for the pinout and verified it with a multimeter. I used 4 x 4-pin LED's in each mirror on a strip of veroboard.

At the moment the LED's pull around 1/2 of the current of a bulb so I get a "Electrical fault in circuit" warning. I intend to add additional LED's to bring the power consumpition up to the 5W of the bulb and kill the error. They work fine though.

Did exactly that, I've found power and ground- just waiting for mate to vag con it, and find time to do other three doors :)
