Title: R26.R - Nurburgring & Spa 2015
Post by: liver on August 24, 2012, 04:30:03 pm
Afternoon all,

i know this isnt a golf but here is my previous golf that i have just sold

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Ft56%2FLiver89%2F378262_10151154272781142_539967037_n.jpg&hash=36c8c2092477bc74a6c862512698c5398fa32fa3)

it was a crackin car but it was time for it to go, it was split and sold fully standard.

here's what replaced the car

It's completly standard apart from a dump valve, it has AD08 tyres instead of the 888's
It's an 09 plate with 10k on the clock

Such an awesome, special car. If I had one of these I don't think I'd ever want to sell it.

Has anyone read the story in the back of this month's Evo about the 73-year-old woman who has a modified R26R? She puts young Robin to shame!

completely agree.  They have held their money fairly well too.  Plus think of the money you save by not having to modify it to perform on track!!!

Just a cheeky £400 remap for an extra 40hp and then pretty much wave bye bye to every single hot hatch money can buy.

I would absolutely love to have one of these at some time in the future.  I wonder if they will release an RS250-R version of the new Megane :surprised:

And as for that women  :notworthy:

These are great cars but cant mod them like the vw range! I used have the F1 230 which was a good car but came back to a golf :happy2:

Er, they don't need modifying! VW will never be brave enough to produce a car like the R26R.

Hero status achieved.

Great cars, now drive it instead of polishing it - otherwise all internet points will be removed.

Great track car straight out the box, was at Donnington with Ross in his, had to let him pass, he was kickin my arse on the twisty bits, got him back on the straights though  :happy2:

cheers for the brilliant response,

wish my girlfriends would have been the same hahaha

yeah fresh out the box they are truely amazing cars,

my plan is to track it a couple of times then start modifying it.

On the mod front i plan to put an uprated panel filter on it with a bigger air intake, a forge or Ktec front mount intercooler then just a stage 1 remap. That should see me at around 270-280 bhp and around 300 ft/lb of torque, i dont want to go silly with power as i do not want to comprimise the setup of the car

the blocks go bang at around 320 bhp and to achieve anything over 300 you need a hybrid turbo. I will be using RS tuning to tune the car as they are very local, the owner has an R26R running 511bhp!!!!!!!

hopefully see some of you out on track very soon, i'll be keeping a look out for when people are going.

cheers again

280hp in a R26R would put you at a higher bhp/ton than a Ed30 Stage 2+ as well, so not only could you spank em on the straights, you'll annihilate them though the bends

Sounds like it's going to be an absolute weapon, and I think you're doing the right thing power-wise. Keep it lean and mean!

Met them last year at Bedord during a track outing. Great couple had a good mingle with them. Just funny hearing John egging Stella on from the pits to overtake people!

Impressive list of cars they've owned too! Didn't realise her daily is a 911 Turbo though!  :notworthy:

RS Tuning deffo for the remap but I very much doubt you will see those figures from a Stage 1.   270bhp+ is Stage 2 power,  your more likely to see 260bhp and 270ft/lbs from a Stage 1.

Stage 1 Hybrid can do 300bhp with your planned cooler and intake + exhaust or decat too, but keeps the torque down.  Stage 2 on the stock turbo gives around 320lbs torque which can cause problems.............Bang !

....I'm inclined to agree. Aren't they built for purpose? If it works, don't mend it!

Having said that, I probably might change the exhaust if I wanted to enjoy more sound.

Title: Re: R26.R
Post by: liver on August 29, 2012, 09:32:20 am
cheers again everyone

im from wakefield so very close to paul

No the titanium exhaust was a £2500 option, even the cage was an option on these and wasnt standard as with the 888's too.

im tempted by the titanium exhaust but will see how it goes, thats a very expensive exhaust, cheapest ive seen it for new is £2300 from a renault dealer

I didn't know about the titanium exhaust  :ashamed:

If I had a R26.R I would definitely be wanting it as a road-legal track toy and so a rollcage would be a must-have. But I fantasise.

Paul

....Most are but a lady who loves cars is rare and to be greatly valued. Fortunately there are a few.

Yesterday I got asked (by a young lady) why I had so many exhaust pipes, was my number plate a private plate, did I have new "chairs" (referring to my Recaro's which she has sat in before!). She didn't quite understand why I needed my aluminium ramps to get my car out of the garage either, although she did try to help me put them back in the garage afterwards (good girl!). But she did enjoy the spirited drive she accompanied me on and said her car doesn't sound like mine! (she's a singer, so has good ears).

But back on topic............... A R26.R is too hardcore a car for most (not all) females to understand.

Nope, its a forged build of the F4R (the usual 225/230 motor), using CP pistons, catcams rods and cams and a GTX3071 Turbo, 830cc injectors.

One question: is this the original position for the harness? I am especially confused by the anchorage points on t floor.

yeah thats the original position, the rear of the car is has an aluminium boxing over where the rear seats would be, within this there are 4 slots for the harness to go into then they are anchored to the floor of the car, not 100% by what

a few people have changed the harnesses to wrap around the straight bar at the back this does however just leave 4 holes in the floor etc

mods revieced so far

a modified air box with an uprated panel filter, spoke to paul at rs tuning and this is the best setup on a standard turbo

mods to come - boost brackets

The purpose of them is to stop the boost sensors lifting when under load and possibly leaking air therefore loosing power. These brackets keep the sensors firmly in place stopping this potential issue completely. A few people on the forum have experienced this problem especially when running higher boost after remaps.

so some pics

Deffo the best colour.  Worked on a few of these over the years. Fitted hybrids, downpipes, coilovers, bigger brakes etc.  It's still to see how a car with so little negative camber at the front can handle so well and still have even tyre wear.

Best mod is the floating disc upgrade.  Seen loads of stock discs with 3mm cracks appear after track days.  I've got some lightly used rs29 rear pads if you want them?

Alex. Don't these have that fancying front hub assembly? My money is on that being the reason... Same as on the RS200 Clio.

Yep. The revo knuckle. Same as the focus rs.
.

Yeah that's the one Alex. :-)

280hp in a R26R would put you at a higher bhp/ton than a Ed30 Stage 2+ as well, so not only could you spank em on the straights, you'll annihilate them though the bends

Not too sure how you have worked that one out Sy?!?!

Either way, the Meg is a cracking motor/toy that has Mk5's licked when it comes to corners / fun factor. It's not particularly rapid in a straight line, but that's not the point of the car. Great choice IMO, now go embarrass some amatuer super car owners at your local track  :happy2:

alright, but it would be near enough.  Must remember not to talk down the k04 engine...

stage 2+ dyno dynamics is typically somewhere between 330Hp.

The Ed30 if running 330hp and weighing in at approx 1395kg  = 236hp/ton.
The meganne if running 280hp and weighing in at 1230kg =227hp/ton

Its near enough.  an extra 10-15hp/ton wouldnt help it much.  The R26R would be gone, which i guess is kind of what i was trying to get at

Plus the r26 has better straight line traction, the revo knuckle some how does what it does in the corners
In the straights too.

The revoknuckle is the way forward for FWD i wonder if a retrofit is possible on the edition 30.

Talk down the KO4 as much as you like pal, I don't have one anymore  .
However, for those that do - the only RR that gives Stage 2+ cars 330bhp is JKM and I dare say that a Stage 2 R26R would not get anywhere near 280bhp on the same rollers. 280bhp for a R26/R is a very healthy Stage 2 from what I have seen/read (decat, FMIC, injectors, filter and everything crossed) and this is on RS Tuning's DD rollers. Stage 2+ KO4's make 350-360bhp all day long on the same rollers, so a much fairer comparison if we are comparing apples.

Regarding fatness - When mine and 2 other ED30's were weighed-in on corner scales at Marham, they all hovered around the 1360kgs mark. So given that and the difference in power, there is still a fair gap between the 2 when it comes to power/weight and straight line poke. But then the Mk5 would definitely need that trump card if they were to cross paths on a track, just to save utter embarrassment if anything else ..   :ashamed::laugh:

My best mate had a Stage 2 R26 for a couple of years and although it was carrying an extra 100kgs or so over the R, it wasn't in the same time zone as my old motor when on the loud peddle (by his own admission). However, put them in to anything that has a curve and I would of swapped drivers seats instantly.

Power to weight ratio doesn't give a true reflection of performance though Sy. My new Exige has 288 hp / tonne (291 PS / tonne) so you would think it would munch a stage 2+ Eddie. I think it would beat it to 80MPH but after that i reckon the Eddie would catch up and sail past. The headline figures just dont account for actual on the road situation. I reckon if you did one of Ron's famous 30 to 40 MPH rolling starts with 3 blasts of the horn the Eddie would easily beat the Meg and an Exige.  :happy2:

Great out of the box track weapon.

You will need to spend thousands on a MK5 to make it into such a car and it's much heavier.

The R26R is what it is a well resolved track weapon and I'd have one if a Renault appealed.

I've had some good track battles against a few of these in my MK2 16V which like the R26R has great power to weight, chassis finesse and a substantial investment over the years. It looks OE and is the one featured in the GTI Tuning bible that Tim Stiles has written.
The other car similar for a great track car is the Honda Teg DC2 or DC5.....or import only Mugen Civic.

Downside on my MK2 is that brilliant though it is for track it aint civilised as an everyday car which I think is where the MK5 scores. Even my Stage 2 APR Ed30 with Clubsports and sticky rubber couldn't match my MK2 around Come which laps in the 1.21-1.22.....1.20 round Donnington

Out the box the MK5 is great for most but to make it into a real track weapon you need careful use of parts and weight reduction.

Talking of track car's my neighbour's E92 M3 which he bought for £20k for a heavy ish car is a surprisingly good track car which is born out my various reviews from Chris Harris and Evo....

What sort of power was your Gti and how does the Renault feel in comparison? Power & 'pull' wise not chassis / handling

The gti was running around 270hbhp and over 350ft/lb torque, the gti was deffo quicker than the megane right now not by alot but it is noticable

hopefully a remap will sort that, a remap will push it to around 265bhp but only about 290 ft/lb of torque, stage 2 meganes are restricted to 300ft/lb by RS tuning due to the major risk of bending rods over 300ft/lb

I love the alloys fitted to these. Are they available in other fitments?

i dont think they do tbh, the spec of these are 8 x 18, stud fitment 5 x 108, et 66

thank you, yeah they've only been used for one track day and that was in the wet

The athlete of hot hatches

I think the tyres give it an extra mean track look with the white touch in truth. The Michelins must be pretty effective too?

Like this a lot  :happy2:
I was looking at a 225 with Cup pack before I bought the GTI actually. Glad I didn't as I'd of just ended up wanting one of these...

yeah they do indeed, i havnt used them, i was just fitting them to see what they looked like. I really need to get this on track to appreciate it fully

Those wheels look superb :congrats: I've got a set of Pirelli compound slicks like these for track days and I think they're great (although good luck in the wet :driver:). I got mine in a medium compound and they do get very sticky once hot and hence wear a bit, maybe I shoulda got a hard compound? Do you know what yours are? Whatever you do that thing is gonna fly around a circuit!

its classed as an engine mount, but its more like a top stabaliser for the main engine mount on the drivers side of the engine bay

fairly cheap to fix to be honest part is around £65 and labour will be £22.50 at rs tuning

could be alot worse but not something i thought would got at such low mileage, im goin to speak to renault first i think, see what they have to say on the matter tomorrow

been to renault

£88.84 to fix

they said its probably a faulty part thats failed and given me renault customer care number to ring and complain

i could uprate the part but then would need all new uprated engine mounts

After speaking to Renault UK customer servies manager and complaining about it breaking the car went into my local Renault Sport dealership for a full inspection as to why the part had broken and who was to pay for the work.

The service manager was a pleasure to deal with and couldnt do enough to try and help me in this situation. He told me what was in my favour and what wasnt etc, the car was in for two days, the first day for the report then the second day to fix it

Unfortunatly renault didnt contribute to the cost of the works as it was deemed to be due to vigerous driving, i did argue that this is what this car is essentially built for but i think the fact it hadnt been into a renault dealership since Dec 2009 and specialists had been used was the main reason why they did not contribute.

Total cost of the fix was only £79.02, it wasnt really about the money i was more after the report so i knew everything related to this part failure was all ok and it was confirmed that nothing else was affected and the car was fault free, so i was happy. This was covered at the cost of Renault.

ive used the car since and have confidence back in the car with the rattles now to a minimum

gave the car a quick clean while the weather was nice and sorted out a scratch from a bird sh.it wipe

noticed the carbon in certain areas is starting to lift between the weave and the resin/laquer, Jay at miglior kindly looked at it for me and there is nothing we can do to stop it, but he suggested to wrap the underside of the bonnet with a heat reflective covering to try and prevent the bonnet from gettin as hot. At this point the marks are tiny and to 99% of people i dont think they would notice it.

broken pixels on my iphone 5 camera, got it replaced for a new one last night, no more stupid marks from now on lol

What's the little mark on each pic?

Dirt on the camera sensor?

gay broken pixels

after speakin to a few .R owners it seems this carbon problem is quite common, most have just put up with it, some have heat reflected the underside of the bonnet and bought engine covers and theres at least one who took it to Renault and they contributed 75% of the cost of a new one

not sure which route to go, i dont want to be spending £xxx on gold heat reflective sheets if it gets really bad then i get it replaced, plus theres the old warrenty thing, mines now out of warrenty but not by much

3 wheels, full cleaned and wearing two layers of sealant

last wheel just needs another layer of sealant on and then there ready for the tyres changing over

i think the colour between the new one and old ones is pretty much spot on

Agggghhh carbon fibre Is a nightmare !! The laquer has lifted on nearly everything I've bought made out of it aswell, I had a front splitter that was really bad for peeling

Ill say one thing though Id maybe try and stick a little bit of laquer over the top just to act like a glue or sealer because once the laquer has lifted the surrounding area seems to follow quite quickly.

Did you prefer your gti to the r26 ?  Or was it just build quality wise ?

ordered a camera mount from RAM UK

heres how it will be built up with 3 components, just going to use Harrys Lap timer app

if I find myself using it a lot then i'll invest on a gopro but for now this will do

it will be cage mounted

it is indeed, all French cars come with a compulsory stapler

Whilst I love the R26R, I LOVE that FRS next to you

just a stage one map and possibly floating front disks, nothing too much

the stapler is an essential when owning a Renault

tried the mount on the cross bars but you saw too much of the dash and the higher you went on the bar the more towards the driver you went

finalised the mount in this position and i think it captures everything here

where its mounted

so the car finally made it on track

I have to say it bloody loved it, as did I. Blyton is a great first track for anyone who hasn't experienced track driving. Plenty of run offs and a real nice relaxed feel to the day as well

Met up with Matt and convoyed down, got there early and then cracked on with signing in and getting the cars ready. The meg took loads of work to get ready, I had to drop tyre temps and cover the number plate (admiral are sneaky *******s) matt on the other had did nothing hahaha

heres a few pics, i'll have vids up tonight hopefully

the first session I was lapping around 1.28 pushing the car but wasn't very smooth, I had some free tuition which really helped and by the end of the day was running around in the 1.18's

bought a helmet for the track day

nearly all ready for the nurburgring, just a couple of little bits to do before I go tomorrow

ive changed the oil/ oil filter after the track day, the oil was actually in very good condition but it had only been in for 3k tops

its getting a full brake fluid change today, a full health check and also a bolt on the passenger seat tightened up that's only hand tight at the minute, I didn't have the torx bit though

so as some of you know I made the trip to the ring again last week,

it was interesting to say the least lol, had a cracking time at the ring, car performed with no problems at all.

the only problems were the weather, bikers and other people crashing. I managed 8 laps but didn't have one clean lap, either had to slow down for accidents or got around 4/5 bends and it started throwing it down. The car was great performed well all weekend with no blips at all

heres a few pics from the trip

generic ring pictures

The quickest lap I did was a 9.09 with a bike accident and a recovery truck. The videos on my facebook, not sure how to get it off there tbh, I was there or there abouts that time a few times, I reckon with a clean lap id crack 9 minutes but the dream lap never happened unfortunately

it will though

cheers, its looks like me and my mate have been let out for the day haha

yeah, I know the photographer who took those last 4/5 pics and he pointed out how close it was, i dropped a little bit of pressure and was running hard in the karrusell, just shows how hard the tyres have to work around that place

Very nice! The Ring is the place where your car belongs!
Was this you first time around the Ring?

One thing about the lines at the Karusell... most people (race drivers) say that both wheels should be on the concrete.

Love this car, so nice to see it being used and not wrapped in cotton wool. How are you finding the AD08s??

Echo Rex, you're way too low in there, puts massive lateral load on the outside front. One of the few 'don'ts' that was hammered into me, I'm still working on the 'doos'  :happy2:

Should in more like this (not me).

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi728.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fww282%2Fglendog74%2FT9F_1452-1.jpg&hash=a590e7d1a7cf9af8e452db32f2f1c75b020eb39f)

In contrast, you heavily cut the mini karusell, as you can see me doing here.

Yup!  :happy2:

As a comparison look how balanced the car looks when both wheels are on the concrete:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1237.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff469%2Fvladpanut%2FIMG_1001.jpg&hash=2c9226d67ff579c350bb3047c3bf3eb5bcce8fc1) (http://s1237.photobucket.com/user/vladpanut/media/IMG_1001.jpg.html)

Oh... and, you might know this, if you accelerate in the Karusell, it will throw you out:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1237.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff469%2Fvladpanut%2FIMG_1085.jpg&hash=9d0cb5001ff03cb915a538ac9e98191856bb24d8) (http://s1237.photobucket.com/user/vladpanut/media/IMG_1085.jpg.html)

Hope this helps!

yeah I didn't really notice him at the time but the way the pics are looks like he's giving it some, I may have got the karrusell and the other one the wrong way round

Very nice! The Ring is the place where your car belongs!
Was this you first time around the Ring?

One thing about the lines at the Karusell... most people (race drivers) say that both wheels should be on the concrete.

yeah ive got my line completely wrong on that one lap, shame the pics in there are all from the same lap, I usually am like you have said

it was my second time there, ive now done a total of 12 laps there

Love this car, so nice to see it being used and not wrapped in cotton wool. How are you finding the AD08s??

yeah I agree my line was all wrong on that one lap, yeah the car was built to be used not to be sat at home in a garage

saying that though since ive been back its been cleaned and not moved since lol

Yup!  :happy2:

Hope this helps!

yeah cheers, your car looks at home at the ring, the karusell takes no prisoners

Not bad!  :happy2: I like the way you drive...
I always think that comments (either good or bad, right or wrong) are beneficial but if don't think that's the case or I am mistaking, please stop me :).
1. The camera angle is quite good, too bad the rear view mirror is quite in the center
2. on some occasions (like Flugplatz) you seem to enter the corner too soon...
3. what tires did you have?
4. there was quite a few traffic but I think the Yellow Seat slowed you down more than the recovery truck or the bike crash (because you were slowed down by that Seat even I have a higher top speed in that section and I have a 160bhp, heavier car).
5. I liked the fact that you were more aggressive when following the BMW.

Looking forward to seeing some more videos (maybe low 8' after you complete a few hundred laps)!

Yeah I agree, I have only ever been around the ring myself and I haven't done any passenger laps so any advice/pointers are always useful, I have also only ever done 1 track day in the car so it is all still pretty new to me in reality.

im running ad08 tyres.
yeah a couple have people have said about the seat as well that I have shown the video to.
I much prefer to follow someone like the bmw as it helps you round, I had seen that the bmw had done quite a few laps and did know the track quite well (better than me) so I was quite happy to sit behind him and look at his lines etc.
I am looking forward to cracking 9 minutes and then learning the track, my next trip I will do a few laps in friends cars and also get them to come out with me to help pass their knowledge on

cheers for the comments  :happy2:

bought a silicone induction hose last night and picked it up

I only know of one liquid yellow R26.R and it doesn't have the cage in it, just the rear strut brace

would be surprised if its an R26.R more than likely just an R26

Got asked to do a mini shoot for the paper for a local show yesterday to help promote it, there were some nice cars there

It was for Fueled Society at Nostel Priory 13-14th July, I went last year when I had just picked the car up and it was a really nice, chilled out show with some good cars

here's some of my pics from it

had the car just over a year now, was a year on sunday

covered 5,970 miles using 240 gallons of fuel

loved every mile of it aswell

also found during the red wheel refurb process that a wheel was cracked, that's currently with an engineer whos crack testing the wheel and welding it back up then the wheels will be painted. Hopefully getting that back today then painted tomorrow

had some up and downs, to be expected with a Renault. Just deciding on a treat for the car now

Wheels look

Nothing more aggressive than devil red multi-spokes on a quick & light car
I'm driving an RS265 at ring later in the year, can't wait judging by how this looks and how these go having met a few on my travels over the years  :driver:

Been in one of these round the Ring driven by my mate who is sh*t hot (we have been about 10 times now) and they are awesome bits of kit, not quick straight line wise out of the box but sublime round the bends and the brakes were awesome (although he did a brand new set of front pads in 6 laps and cracked the disc!!) .
Would love one but not as a daily!!

Cheers Pete

How do you find having red wheels ? Do they discolour quite easily ? Easy ish to keep ? Or is there alot of polishing involved to keep the colour ?

I don't find them hard work at all, but during the bad weather I've had the black ones on because of tyres etc.

I had the red ones freshly painted, then I machine polished them, gave them 2 layers of wheel sealant and 2 layers of wax and they clean up like new just from the jet wash.

I haven't treat the red ones any different to any other wheels tbh

Hiya everyone

A friend very kindly offered me the use of his bodyshop during the Christmas period. This desperately needed after I had a little miss hap with a new clay bar which left the paint work on my R26R looking very sorry for itself as you can see below

I took taping the car to the extreme as I didn't want to mess around and used as much from the bodyshop as I could.

I'm going mad, I'm sure I've seen this before :rolleye:  You did an excellent job there... what happened with the Clay bar, not enough detailing spray?
Must be nice to have all that indoor area to work on it.

haha your not, I posted it in the detailing section as well but thought id keep this thread upto date as well

I think the clay bar was just too aggressive for the paint and hence all the maring and defects

I always use plenty of lube when detailing especially when claying to avoid any problems.

yeah it made a massive difference compared to the drive I usually use at home, was nice to be inside and cover it up inbetween

Washed the car for the first time since the detail and it was a pleasure to wash and im sure you'll agree it looks cracking

however, I did notice that there is a patch on the bonnet that's getting affected by the heat even though I have the gold reflective tape underneath

Havn't updated this in a while,

Not much has happened to be honest, just been enjoying the car, used it as a daily for 2 weeks and it was fine.

I've still got the car on black wheels at the minute. I've been having two wheels painted and 2 wheels decomtam'd due to the track pads and bigger brakes leaving loads of deposits on the red wheels, but they're more or less ready to go back on.

The car was burbling on idle, not obviously just but slightly, new injectors where needed and apart from that nothing else has happened

some pics

awesome, didn't know you'd had one, no. 39 rings a bell to me, sure the guy who owns it is on a Renault forum I'm on.

I went the other way to you, gti to megane.

I had it from new for over 2 years, then sold it to Tony Lewis (TRL on most forums) and a guy named Ben Griffin owns it now.

We're all on the MeganeSport forum so you've probably seen it about. I had an S5 BMX registration, you may recognise it from the plate?

This thread has made me realise how much I miss it, especially the Ti exhaust.

Thats a nice R26R

I used to own a 2005 225 meg with few mods and over 260hp. Now i'm in a Leon 2.0 tfsi with DSG

Really miss the megane, compared to the feel of the Leon it was like a go-kart.

Can only imagine how much better and more responsive the R26R is compared to mine, not to mention compared to the VW feel.

I've done a few performance mods to this but just enhancements as to how I felt it should have come out the factory. The handling and grip really is something else.

I did a track day with a friend last year who has a turbo'd Honda civic with just over 300bhp, full FIA cage and properly stripped and track set up and there was nothing in it and mine was fully standard then.

went to the VW Unphased car show on Sunday in Preston,

was a very good show for their first show

So the annual ring trip went very well.

The trip over was horrendous driving through the night and day to get there. First problem I hit was in the UK, a lose battery terminal left me with zero power at the services, luckily we spotted this and got that sorted, after that I had no problems at all.

The weather all weekend was rubbish, only Saturday morning was dry until about 1pm. Due to this I didn't do as many laps as id hoped to, only completing 4 in total. My first lap back at the ring was meant to be a sighter but ended up beating my quickest time from last year with a 9.01 lap, at this point I knew I was getting into the 8's. The quickest lap of the weekend was an 8.47 lap, I was pleased with this, reckon I could have gone quicker but just didn't have the weather to.

Met some great people and had a really good time, here's the pics

that is a stupidly quick time for a front wheel drive car full lap though

I agree, I don't see how anyone can justify £40+k for a Renault megane

Quick update

The mirror caps have been fitted and a quick winter clean was done while I was off work.

I've got the black wheels cleaned and sealed ready to go on but I need two tyres for them, hopefully get them sorted and on this weekend.

The red wheels need 3 tyres so will just get 4 new AD08's.

The car passed its MOT just before Christmas and taxed at the end of December.

Its in Renault today for a few things, mainly new door wiring looms and window regulators, thank fully Renault are making a large contribution to the cost of this for me.

They are also looking at my front lower grill that doesn't sit right, the carbon bonnet issue where the lacquer/gel coat is separating away from the carbon due to the heat, that's been photographed and sent off to Renault HQ for assessment.

Finally, water in the door pockets, they have got back to me about this and that's due to the speakers that have been put in the car, water is running through the door onto the speaker and then into the door card so that needs addressing also

Finally, insurance is due at the end of the month lol

quick pic to make it all better

Heading to the ring on Friday for 4 days then got a track day booked at Spa on Tuesday.

Been getting the car ready which ahs consisted of the following, a lot of just just routine maintenance;

New Ad08 tyres all round
Cleaned and paintwork stripped of all contaminents
Car is to be cleaned and waxed the day before I go also

Mechanical
Cambelt & Water pump
Full Service
Brake Fluid change
Gearbox fluid change
New Rear discs and pads
New exhaust mount
General check over the car

Brilliant service and price again from RS Tuning, couldn't recommend them enough

So this weekend I visited the Ring and Spa. Set off to the Ring on Friday morning and arrived Friday evening.

I had Saturday and Sunday to lap at the ring. Saturday was ridiculously busy. Sometimes 4/5 cars into corners, this didn't allow for any decent clear laps with traffic everywhere and crash often.  I managed 3 laps on Saturday but need to check the go pro for the fastest i think it was around a 9.03.

The Sunday was washed out, I went out for my final 4th lap just before the heavens opened, I managed to touch the grass with a wheel giving an SLS a bit too much room and from also watching the SLS a little too much in the mirror.

Got to Spa on Monday for the MLR track day who were there already on the Monday as well and managed to get on track on a beautiful sunny day 3-6 as the day we had booked was forecast rain. The Tuesday started off wet hence the change of tyres but then dried up for 3 hours before the rain came again.

Overall the trip was fantastic and I cannot wait to go again. Loved Spa more than I loved the Ring which I did not expect.

I'm very jealous of your trip mate, I would love to do Spa and do want to do the ring aswell but as you said there's often a lot of traffic and you can't really enjoy it as much as I'd like, I'll probably just do a few laps to say I've done it tbh.

Not sure, need to get a house bought asap so will all depend on that. The missus came for the first time this time and loved it, wants to try and fit a trip in towards the end of the year

I rated the AD08's. I changed to pilot sport 3's on the Tuesday as they are much better in the rain

Yeah its hard to be setting good times when its so busy. It didn't help at all that it was a bank holiday as well

she was lap timing at spa and keeping an eye on how long my sessions were, shes not checking facebook lol

Yeah the grab wouldn't have been ideal, I thinks he realised that as she doesn't actually touch me

the car loves it, the more abuse it gets the better it behaves

even managed to double lap at the ring with no problems at all

awsome moter pal,  been round the ring as a passenger a couple of times, he's a professional driver and would just go round everything, couldn't understand how a fwd car has so much grip! 9.03 is a good time, i used to go a lot in modified astra vans and we got down to the 9 min mark, peoples faces were so funny. defiantly stay away from bank holidays and weekends its just not worth it anymore. The steak in your picture is hands down the best I've ever had! keep doing what ya doing! I'm jealous a r26r has no room for a baby seat  :notworthy:

cheers for the kind comments.

They really are a very capable car in the right hands. My quickest time in this is an 8.47 with traffic. I've watched the lap above and noted that I overtook 17 cars in total, got over taken by none and think I lost around 15 seconds due to the yellow flag and cautious drivers in front of me just after the yellow flag.

I still think that Pinocchio's steaks are better than the pistenklaus ones.

There's plenty of room in the rear to attached a baby seat haha

Havn’t updated these in ages.

Not a lot really to report, just been enjoying the car. Havnt covered the most miles this year in this but when I have used it I’ve loved every second.

Did a track day at cadwell in August, here are the pictures, car was brilliant throughout the day

Do you use Mtec discs?

I bought the discs from cazan racing, which were clio and Meganne specialists but have since stopped trading from what I can see. I belive they sourced the discs from Reylands

A lot of the track pictures are once that I have bought from the track day photographers, the rest are just from my iPhone

The car due to recently purchasing my first house has taken a back seat. It hasn't been washed in months let alone driven. This needed changing.

I managed to get a couple of days off work and get the cars new home sorted. I gave the garage a refresh along with the car

how the garage was emptied

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Ft56%2FLiver89%2FIMG_2368_zps8x3dvmur.jpg&hash=bbcc542bdf3e6f2486512cb8c07d4c300c531f34)

after a refresh
