As above, love the look and the spirit of it's design and conception.
-
I have a feeling a normal test drive isn't even going to give you a fraction of the thrills this is capable of.
Once all the fancy bits start coming out, I'll be watching them carefully. Ideal fun & track car material.

A friend of mine works up in nuneaton at Listers Toyota and was telling me about this a while ago  sounds very good on paper and looks, dare i say it, a cross between a Nissan 370z and a beefed up Celica

It's nothing like either
-
It might offer great value for money but it totally lacks style and I'm prejudiced against Toyota. Nothing about it which excites me.
-
Not exactly on fire in terms of straight line speed is it...
..... wait a minute... its a bloody Subaru not a toyota!!

You're not wrong pal.. :surprised: I admire the concept and it's looks, but 7.4 0-60 isn't exactly going to get many people moist in this day and age.. Especially when the likes of the new BMW 320d can manage that
Subaru's equivalent certainly doesn't break any records on track either..
-
:signLOL:
"Not great"
Watching that Megane makes me want a manual car again.
-
It does seem like it needs a bit more power in the lower rev range for sure. Without a turbo it'll be difficult to get much out of a remap either.
But maybe that's not the point. It looks great fun to drive, even if it can't keep up with the Megane & Co.
-
I bet it's a really good car, but as said the performance could be frustrating, sure they bringing out an sti version?

I'm sure they will. They'd be mad not to.
-
I'm prejudiced against Toyota.
Why?
-
The MX5 is slow, it's still regarded as one of the finest driver's cars available. There's very little RWD and fun, that's also cheap.
-
can manage that

but, look at the way suburu have always released the Impreza. the WRX wasa frankly mild, the STI came next and injected alot mre performance then they release the special focused editions such as the WR1 etc
Id bet there will be something more potent in the pipe line
-
Sorry, but this car doesn't do anything for me at all. Vanilla RWD with no power and by the looks of it, no balance either. Until Subaru man up, grow a pair and give it 300bhp and a turbo all it is to me is a decent looking bit of metal with no go in it!
-

:congrats: Absolutely. Brilliant fun.
Just drive it with sunglasses on and the roof up. It is perceived as a bit of a Big Gay Bear's car!
-
I'm prejudiced against Toyota.
Why?
....Simply because they produce the Toyota Pious and market it under false pretences. The dust-to-dust carbon footprint of a Pious is far worse than a V8 Jeep!
Those drivers who closely tail others at exactly 50 mph (or slower) but not leaving enough room to leapfrog without bullying (which I won't do) are invariably Pious drivers.
Oh, and a feckin Pious nearly ran me over recently because it was so quiet - I gave the driver a right mouthful! Even a 1930's Rolls-Royce has a serene quietness preferable to a soul-less Pious.
I have yet to see any car which makes me feel 'wow what's that' that has a Toyota badge on it. But that's just my personal preference.

Taking mine out tomoz into lakes, might cut some hair after :signLOL: they are cool, fasting enough for road IMO, lots of fun can be had at 60, but these days we are all power mad.
-
See u In the lakes :driver:

Some of the best cars I have driven have been lacking in the power figures.
This car isn't about big numbers, it's got a power output that matches its chassis, more about fun and the experience than outright speed. The motoring press seem to love it.

And lets face it, they probably will ;) Then I might be interested...

Like lots of cars on this forum and others it's all about power but the car is not balanced at all and I bet drive crap compared to a car with less power that's is set up and balanced to the power it has so bring on cars like this toyoburu :driver:
-
The Celica has always been a lovely car though.

Absolutely. 2 of the most fun drives I've ever had in a car were in an original Mini Cooper S and a mk1 MX5. Furthermore, my mk2 16V was the most fun car I've owned long term with just 140-145 bhp. (apart from my new mk5!)
-
I look forward to seeing a Celica Gt4 replacment!!
I always wanted a GT4
-
Went into Guildford Toyota yesterday, took some pics, will post later.
The salesman told me there will be a supercharger kit fitted by dealers which takes the car to 245bhp, and does not invalidate the 5 yr warranty!
There is also to be a supercharged production version called the TRD with 260 plus bhp, launched next year.
Nice!
-
If this floats your boat why not just go karting? Alot cheaper, can race properly, and not have to live with a nasty Toyota lol
-
That's as silly as me suggesting you buy a real 4x4, like a Defender, instead of that nasty Haldex crap :signLOL:
-
Funny but true :signLOL:
-
My Mate AL (who owns quite a few cars), test drove one and managed to get it on an airfield where he threw it about a bit :signLOL:, he said the handling was awesome but it did seriously lack grunt, he since read up on a turbo conversion/remap for them (approx 320bhp) and has since ordered the Scooby version to replace his ageing WRX STI track toy :happy2:
-
Seems a lot of tuners were given a car/engine a long time ago and told to go nuts - like Toybaru are actively encouraging people to mod them. Considering how little they weigh, and with scope to easily remove more, 320hp will be lunacy.
We"ll give you the bare bones of a great handling car and engine with potential, you do what you want with it. I like this sales pitch!
-
I think he gets his in around 10 or 11 weeks as he ordered a "Special colour", I don't know what that is until it arrives :signLOL:

yeah i think its great too good on em for pushing a ca for people to tune

After owning my fair share of toyota's. I'm some what with RR here. Toyota's of today are soulless. The urge is slowly growing by the day to actually go look at one and see if I can convince myself out of my mk5?
I think I already know the answer, truth be told. Even at my golf approaching 7-8 years old. Still enjoy it far more then I ever could a mk6. (mk6 looks just don't do it for me, but the TSI engine is whole different ball game) I digress however.
So it comes down to going backwards to say mk4-mk2, keep mk5 or go new but then I would choose Toybaru or subyota. It will be one hell of a convincing act thou.
Over in the states there is a company called nameless performance. They have thus far managed 20-25HP increase by a mere CAT back system. They are still developing the Exhaust Manifold I believe. Scratch that, They are developing the subyota (fairly sure however the system would fit both I'm sure) Full system is available right now.
So even in NA variant, there are improvements. There are a few supercharger and turbo kit's already available for these cars. Funnily enough the BRZ is turbo route and the FRS/FT86 is more supercharger orientated.
It looks really nice from outside with wheels and suspension alone. But the interior Still has a lot to be desired.
-
Really like the look of the TRD version (kit) but its not cheap -
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.autoguide.com%2Fauto-news%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F%2F2011%2F12%2FScion-FR-S-TRD.jpg&hash=ee1b968d96f5881561444120b3ccbb563bc3c100)
I think if it was charged I would be very very tempted even given the slightly 'normal' interior. I just don't think its enough to satisfy year or so down the line.
My mate is really please with his BRZ but he did say if they release an STI version he would most likely swap for that. He doesn't tend to stay in the same car for too long. Came from a mapped mk6 GTI in fact too.
-
...even given the slightly 'normal' interior.
The God damn awful interior you mean

^^^^
That TRD kit looks quite good :happy2:
If the interior is crap, strip or modify it? - Alacantara is your fwend! Modify performance and it might be a fun trackday car.
-
If the interior is crap...
In fairness it looks fit for it's purpose. It's functional, not flashy.
-
one of these complete with cage and all sorts flew past me and Mike though the bends at Silverstone the other day. Looked pretty impressive

....I agree and I much prefer functional to flashy (why I like my Mk5 GTI interior without any bright silver quality statement bling bits).
I should have written "If you think the interior is crap..."
Based on the pic it's interior doesn't excite me but I haven't sat in one. But I think I like the instrument cluster.
-
Interior is all about functionality - very elise like with the steering wheel position, to be honest when I sat in my mate's the driving position felt spot on so the rest didnt really concern me.
-
It's tame for a Jap interior to be fair, they like the spaceship feel for sure. The plastics feel nice, it's simple and well thought out.
