Title: Sluggish Car "Under-boosting" apparently??
Post by: nickg123 on August 29, 2012, 10:34:44 pm
Evening all!

I'm in the process of helping a friend sell a Mk5 Golf GTi, I've got an Octavia VRS (2.0TFSi) so I know how they should drive but this Golf feels GUTLESS!

I said it feels like the turbo is hardly working although I can hear it.

I also found out it missed a recall for new Coil packs so I booked it in with my local Dealer and had them done today.  I was hoping this might sort the issue out but they said it showed an Under boost error on the logs so did I want them to investigate...  Knowing what they charge I said no as I'll have to ask an indy to look at it...

Anyone have any ideas what this could be?  I'm already thinking MAF?  Anything else likely?

It's a 2005 DSG model with 91k miles if it helps!

Thanks in advance

I would replave the DV, and inspect all the boost pipes, may be do a smoke test to see if you have any leakes, ?

It will be the DV or PCV. Those are the two main culprits Id be looking at first. Did they give you the exact fault code?

Thanks guys, I may have to get one ordered then!  £50 seems about the cheapest I've found so far, for this:

Is that right?

Thanks again for your help!

You can fit the D revision but the correct valve for your car is '06F 145 710 G'  There has been a lot of people fit the D and been quite happy. I had the D fittted for over 2 years and it started to leak, so I swapped it back for the G and not looked back.  Others have reported that since swapping back to the G, they are seeing less N75 duty cycle and more boost.  The G isless prone to failing like the old C revision.  But like everything they aren't bullet proof. Since fitting the G, my car is loads more eager to pull throughout the rev range than when the D was fitted. Plus they are only £35  :happy2:

Excellent, thanks mate!  I've found that part for £29.16 (plus Postage etc) - Is that going to be the same as on my 2006 (56) Octavia VRS estate (2.0 tfsi)?  If so I'll order one for my car too that's all I'm thinking.....

Thanks again!

It is the same part as I have a 56 plate Octy VRS hatchback.

 :congrats:  :congrats:  :congrats:

Just wanted to reply to this thread, to say a HUGE Thank you to everyone that helped.   :happy2:

I got the car up on a ramp last night to see the old Diverter Valve covered in Oil/Grease so I though this must be a good sign!  After fiddling about finding the right tool to get to all 3 bolts I got it off, and it literally fell into pieces as I did so - The Green rubber diaphram was completely shredded and obviously was the fault!  I got the new one on nice and easily, and MY GOD what a difference  :driver:!!!!!!!!   It is like a new car, I can't believe how bad it was..... :jumpmove:

Thanks so much guys, I'm going to replace the one on my Octavia tonight too as I'm sure mine is probably on the way out too.

One last question on it, my parents have a 2008 ED30 Golf and I would like to replace theirs too as it's a bit on and off with power.  Do any of you know which type of valve that would have on it?  Would this same replacement fit?

Thanks so much once again, so glad I joined this forum now!!

I run the G in my stage 2 Ed30 with no problems... I'd say it's the best one to fit, certainly feels better than the 'D' i had...
